Perhaps but the biggest difference between them and Billy Joel every song on every album is a hit opposed to the other guys only had one maybe two good songs from each album
@NSHM1223 жыл бұрын
@@salsaucedo The difference is, Billy Joel was more American pop which is perfect for the radio format. Bowie was much more accepted and popular in other parts of the world, had cult fans in the US and didn't really become recognized by most in the US until he went mainstream for a short while in the 80's with Let's Dance, China Girl...etc. Most of his music did not fit the US radio format, but he had many "hits" in Europe, Asia, S America and Australia for many years. Billy Joel played only one genre of music, while each Bowie album was completely different than every other so he was difficult to categorize. So Bowie didn't have "hits" like Billy Joel, but most will agree his first 10 or so albums you can play right through without skipping, as the songs are all really good. The one or two songs you refer to are just the ones you are familiar with.
@sjd57503 жыл бұрын
@@NSHM122 Exactly; and "Hits" aren't the true measure of the quality of the music..In fact, Hits are usually toe-tappers aimed to please those who aren't the most discriminating......"Hits" (the least controversial or "easiest to digest") are designed to get you to buy the album, then when you get it home (old days) many times you discover that the hits are your least favorite songs, and the real gems lie within.
@NSHM1223 жыл бұрын
@@sjd5750 I don't want to take away from Billy Joel, he's definitely very talented and can write some great songs, but even with his songs, the ones I like the most are the lesser known ones. I've been a Bowie and Elton fan for many decades and I find that I skip the more radio played "toe tappers" when I pay their albums. Toe tapper = 3 to 4 minutes long, with a verse, chorus, verse, bridge then chorus format.
