Lyrics:
She can kill with a smile
She can wound with her eyes
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies
And she only reveals what she wants you to see
She hides like a child
But she's always a woman to me
She can lead you to love
She can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth
But she'll never believe
And she'll take what you give her as long as it's free
Yeah, she steals like a thief
But she's always a woman to me
Billy Joel's official KZfaq channel features music videos, live performances, interviews, TV appearances and more. Best known for his first hit song, 'Piano Man', in 1973, Billy has written and recorded thirty- three Top 40 hits in the United States. He is a six-time Grammy Award winner, a 23-time Grammy nominee and one of the world's best-selling artists of all time, having sold over 150 million records worldwide. I’ve been very overwhelmed with school and the future and I’ve been feeling so stressed and tired. I finally told my dad about it and he took me to get food and listened to my fears and doubts. He was so understanding. I thought he would be mad and tell me to suck it up. We finished our food and we got in the car to go home. He put on this song and I started crying. He just looked at me with understanding and pet my hair( he hasn’t done that since I was a little girl). I’m crying writing this but now I feel like maybe everything is gonna be okay.

Everything will be ok. Life is so scary and stressing, but you'll always get through the scary and hard times. This song almost always makes me cry because of some scary footage of 9/11 I watched long ago. A cameraman and his buddy walked right up to the World Trade Center plaza directly underneath the two towers as debris was raining down and people were falling to their deaths. And while all this was going on an instrumental version of this song was playing on the plaza speakers.

An instrumental version of this played on a playlist used to entertain visitors of the original WTC complex and played during 9/11 as the attacks unfolded, people jumping and the eventual collapse. This track in particular is my absolute favorite from this record, and possibly even my all time favorite Joel song. I saw a comment here that said it's "Three minutes of harmonic and melodic perfection." I could not have said it any better myself. It does not matter whether you're 9, or 90. Who knew back in 1970's.... This song played ironically on 9/11/2001 on the WTC Plaza 20-30 minutes before the collapse of the Twin Towers... Alongside with the How Deep is your Love.... Although the songs were playing on instrumental version the power of these lyrics is remarkable... Even when you don't actually hear them, your brain is singing them... And most ironically.... The lyrics of this song along with the lyrics of ''How Deep is your Love'' seems like a prophecy or a poem dedicated to the peace (which was lost on 9/11), and for all those innocent emotions and good intentions that people had in the past.... Many people has described these lyrics as the farewell of the Twin Towers to a world that was about to change... They had right... Nothing is the same today... We changed, the world changed... If we keep behaving this way to other people, to the animals, to the enviroment we will end up destroying ourselves... The change is on our hands... We love these decades and we have to build a world (at least) better than what we see on videos today....

If the towers were still standing today I would have loved to visit them, they were such beautiful buildings. It is sad how they took a decade to build and only minutes to destroy them.

@@flimain6002 I think all of us would love to have a flashback in the 90’s… If only we had the opportunity to go there for an afternoon and spend an evening at the WTC Plaza or the old Twin Towers Observatory & Windows on the World for a drink…. Its so sad these gorgeous Towers are missing from the NY Skyline…

Really? I don't hear the lyrics as angry at all. I think you're misinterpreting. I hear understanding admiration. I hear recognition of her humanity. He sees her power and her flaws. He's saying she possesses these wonderful and tragic qualities all at once. He respects her for them and loves her despite them.

theres no correct interpretation i think. one of the comments accurately pinpointed that the interpretation an change depending on the woman in the listener's life. I hear fluidity of a person since this is what i have experienced. sometimes i am kind but i dont consider myself a kind person because i am also selfish at times. the lyrics are reallya piece of art to bring out so much diverse interpretation.

Victoria Susan Baldwin That made me smile. I'm only 22, but in early highschool, I had a friend (who I wound up in a short relationship with) who was raised unbelievably religiously and her parents were so incredibly protective and at 14, all she was allowed to watch were Christian films and Veggie Tales. So we'd have movie nights and watch Harry Potter together and Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, or other movies deemed too "evil" by her parents. Movies were a whole new world to her. God, that was nearly a decade ago. Miss you Alyssa. hope all is well for you out there. You're always a friend to me.

Billy Joel ... the one singer whose songs' words I can fully make out without googling for them, whose lyrics are in complete sentences and grammatically correct English, and whose songs have tunes that can be hummed or whistled.

She can kill with a smile, she can wound with her eyes She can ruin your faith with her casual lies And she only reveals what she wants you to see She hides like a child but she's always a woman to me She can lead you to love, she can take you or leave you She can ask for the truth but she'll never believe you And she'll take what you give her as long as it's free Yeah she steals like a thief but she's always a woman to me Oh, she takes care of herself, she can wait if she wants She's ahead of her time Oh, she never gives out and she never gives in She just changes her mind And she'll promise you more than the garden of Eden Then she'll carelessly cut you and laugh while you're bleeding But she brings out the best and the worst you can be Blame it all on yourself 'cause she's always a woman to me Oh, she takes care of herself, she can wait if she wants She's ahead of her time Oh, she never gives out and she never gives in She just changes her mind She is frequently kind and she's suddenly cruel She can do as she pleases, she's nobody's fool But she can't be convicted, she's earned her degree And the most she will do is throw shadows at you But she's always a woman to me

He didn't lie to this song I just lost it because I had to well have a real sound for a starting block. Onamia 7th Grade until now is the hurdles on well moment my well feet started and they well became heaven and the real lives of all the ones not male left like they were already there... And, if anything ends on time it never did Hurdles are 100 and well run like Lisa or take the day for a well thing you can't be the well perfect night for well a run that fixed the 100 yard dash I well don't hold the flexed arm hang well and if that matters neither did Howard Williams he held the well snow. oh it's my way to the Edmund Fitzgerald i'm almost well worth Tuck and Patty missing JImmy Hendrix ya know why I fly way better then well Hyatt and I tan with one thing. My side stand by me Oasis Steve Hoy La Bamba Pamela Texas and her dog on grass boy she was everything i couldn't ever know. And, the green in Texas is her well one stop before she well lept over the stars I licked and one she wanted to win she did Six for the five we were and are always. She loved me when she killed six and became a sheriff and the deputy is well Andy Taylor proof and whistle to the inside of a barn it's well the best on top metal and then it well stays there so Santa Clause finds a well wife. She well spits and then she eats rocks for the rock star in my tights like the Saint Teresa's just well true in the sad face of a well horse who couldn't move any worse then well he held the sun always and then the well flowers were dead anyway name them or well keep the well so perfect from well the well cut and they all look like mine. His Priscilla of the Madrid poster was just the dance club way of finding Australia and the well non Minnesota in the drinks. It was me proof the real hand out in Madrid and when I remember the travelling around the big cities of the country or McDonalds it's Kel's Sind tha is the encore. McDonalds and you and well her Grandfather is Dairy Queen and well if the Judge could be love it was a Grandfather that always won. The great eyes of a well t.v. set is it never really is the well life you love, it's the life that you just can't miss if you could. Who could God really be but a well man who couldn't love any more and found a well place to be someone. Minneapolis because it's Fiction so it may be the worst evil to find dead in the only if you couldn't find a hill without dirt and if that were the exact thing wrong cut a place better and the apples have sizes that well you just bite. And, picked or well your hand would kill you to know that well carrots aren't the putt putt golf of any real sitting end. It's well the colored rabbits foot that the I.D.S. stands in front of a building still way above the gone and when it isn't a boat well didn't move did it yet. And when it does, I'll well sink. Pamela Howe Eleven and above the any world is a universe of mine. a Animal proof try directing them once, they well cry alot.

Well you see this is the difference between a writer/singer and a simple singer. People who write their own music that is meaningful to them personally make fantastic music, the issue with the modern music industry is that it has made music into a simple consumer product, there is no real soul to it, in the modern music labels most folks are only interested on getting a paycheck.

Billy Joel's song She's alway a woman to me was very popular in early 1979 when I was living in Olongapo City, Philippines when I was stationed at SRF Subic Bay when I was in the U.S.Navy, My late wife & I were newly weds in April of 1979. My late wife & I stayed married from April 5, 1979 up to her death on March 6, 2010, a month shy of being married 31 years, she was a wonderful wife, mother & woman. We met on January 16, 1975 when my ship Was in Subic Bay the third time during the 1974-1975 Westpac cruise when I was stationed aboard the USS Blue Ridge LCC-19. I plan to return home to my second country, the Philippines for good by October, 2017 and live out my life there.

+Christopher O'Rourke my situation is a bit similiar except I met mine online in 2008, and after 5 long years we finally met in person. We both have learned a lot and broke up and went back out and finally plan to get married. I just got back from there last year and I can tell you its a fine place. I first went there myself in 1991-92 and it was amazing place. Were going thru the process of immigration and once done, me and her will be together and marry finally. Sometimes it takes time to grow and realize you have something wonderful, one day you have it and next you wake up and its gone. My heartfelt sympathies out to you and have a good life in the Philippines. If you get a chance visit Davao, very nice place to have a good life and the people in that part of the Philippines are very down to earth. Me and my future mrs plan to go back there and live our retirement out there. Good luck with your life there.

Ok yes! Why does this song feel so sad? Maybe you have a real reason but I can't find anything in the song that should make me sad but it still makes me feel something deeply. Annoying that I can't quite put my finger on what. Maybe it's just the rolling notes that go a bit higher on the second pairs just like when you're running out of air while crying.
