A thoughtful, wide-ranging, articulate discussion our country and faith by Bishop Budde and Cardinal Gregory. They covered many points of the issues facing our country, and the world. Each certainly stood for the importance of faith in helping to set the moral tone, and were concerned about how to meet the young adults where they are, and that are struggling with faith. Each accepted that we are not in total agreement about every topic, but that open dialogue needs to be continuous, and that faith should be front and center is setting morality. I appreciated their unequivocal agreement that Bibles should not be sold for political gain,and the the Constitution and other such documents do not belong in the Bible. It was an excellent conversation. Well worth watching. Thank you, and blessings to both of you in your leadership roles. 🙏🏻💛🕊️

It would be wonderful to have them back often to speak on the show and to include leaders of other faiths or theologies. These are much needed conversations especially in our current times. True, we cannot forget that politics and religion should and must be separate; however, there is a difference between religion and faith or spirituality, good and evil, kindness and inhumanity and giving and selfishness. Values, morals and standards are paramount. I was fully immersed and focused on the conversation and their perspectives, though after watching the full segment on KZfaq, I was somewhat disappointed with the editing that omitted what I felt were pertinent portions of the full conversation. Despite that, it was an interesting segment on MTP this morning. I wish a Happy Easter to all and may this world, with the help of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, learn to live and love one another as one people, as brothers and sisters and human beings who value, respect and appreciate life as God intended in the beginning. Regardless of what our beliefs and opinions are, we cannot deny that all of us (unless we are truly evil, without a heart and conscience) want the same thing in the end...to love and be loved unconditionally, to live in peace and unity and to leave our earth a better place for our future generations.

As a protestant I enjoyed listening to the straight forward sharing of their viewpoints even though I agree with portions of Catholicism. This was my first time hearing a Catholic priest include All aspects of life and not exclude everything after birth. Both our faiths must protect our churches from the encroachment of worldly influences. Many incorporate them to attract and appeasing young seekers. The world is the world and the church is the spotless bride of Christ.

Politicians should not make a decision about a woman's body. If a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, should the man who raped have his penis removed? Should that be a law in each state? Lawmakers should have no business deciding how a woman manages her body. If they do, then manage the man's body too.

Young Catholics ARE increasingly going to Traditional Mass. Even have whole pages and podcasts on these "Rad Trads". The loss of local Latin Mass may drive some away permanently: some to Orthodox Churches, some to other denominations.

People seem to be ignoring the full scope of what Cardinal Gregory is saying or just filtering it through their partisan bias. First, he only answered that question on Biden because he was asked it. He wasn't "imposing" anything. Second, he clearly spoke of a consistent life ethic. So he is not someone who focuses only on abortion. He also focuses extensively on capital punishment, war, healthcare, poverty, etc. But people just choose what they want to hear when it doesn't fit their partisan logic.

The "consistent life ethic" was flawed from the beginning. There is no way one can equate the taking of innocent life (abortion) with death penalty issues in capital criminal cases. It was bad philosophy and bad theology. And I am anti death penalty.

True Faith in God is not full of errors. Some doctrines may have errors and they certainly can lead to division. Also, there are many Christians whose actions and speech are in error. I think it behooves all Christians to really read the Gospels. Find out who Jesus really was and what he taught. How wonderful this world could be if we all strive to follow His teachings and example.

The young people in the church want tradition! And yet, the dear Cardinal goes out of his way to ban it. Go to any Latin Mass community and see all the young families and youth-that is the future of the church, not this lukewarm swill of ecumenism and discussions about unspecified “goodness.” I pray His Eminence learns this soon, before our church empties out because there is nothing real and different from the world here.

Pray for the conversion of hearts to know and respect the sacredness of marriage and the sanctity of life. According to our Lady of Fatima, war is the punishment for our sins. To the matter of separating the powers of the church and the state, is it unfitting to ask if state documents are included in a "Bible", if that work is indeed still properly labeled a "Bible"? If so, why not allow advertising for whatever cause whatever cause to "enhance" the August scripture? Perhaps even family planning institutes can advertise? Are we seeing the beginning of polarized "Bibles"? does Grifting know no limits? Those who purport to sanctify Christianity in law should honor he whom it is named after, and leave Cesar to Cesar.

Listening to the woman I would ask where does she get a scriptural reference for her life position? It’s interesting that Bible scripture reference, the authority for Christian salvation, life and living, is not referred to in the conversation. Instead I heard the word “conscious”. Your conscious is not godly unless it is fundamentally structured and based on Bible scripture. Doing what you think is right in your own eyes is not godly.

if a person wants to be a christian simply read the sermon on the mount. He has laid it out there very clearly. You don't need a church you don't need a priest or anyone else. that is all one needs The lord will put people in ones path or answer directly to anyone who seeks the true path of God

Just the Sermon on the Mount? I thought Christianity is summarised by John 3:16. You also have the rest of the Gospels and the rest of the New Testament and the Old Testament. The Sermon on the Mount is not the source and summit of Christianity. The source and summit of Christianity would be God (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit). You might prefer the Sermon on the Mount to Leviticus 18, but the Sermon on the Mount is an intensification of the morality which comes from the Ten Commandments.

But Cardinal Gregory is doing his job as a bishop to criticize and condemn politicians who are not using their power to promote the Church's views. Its no different than when St Ambrose of Milan excommunicated Emperor Theodosius: it is quite literally part of the man's job to be exceptionally harsh on politicians who aren't abiding by the Laws of the Church.

Agreed, mostly, but faith cannot help us navigate anything. It CAN steer people, but as an old sailor, I think anything that an be called a navigational aid should only point to the right path. Faith can point people in ANY direction.

Actually it’s not. Separation of church and state is not found anywhere in the constitution. Also Biden is not following his faith at all seeing as he supports abortion and same sex marriage. Yes faith is personal but you are supposed to openly express it via works and testimony. Biden is ashamed of his faith and won’t express it unless it’s convenient for him. His FBI has gone after Catholics and Pro-lifers too.

If Biden wasn't Catholic either, then there'd be no real difference as the issue is specifically that Biden calls himself a Catholic specifically. I replied here yesterday (April 2, 2024) and now my comment is missing? I merely pointed out that for mammals (of which humans are one kind), the embryo or fetus does all of the following: it has a metabolism, it consumes oxygen and produces waste, it grows, the cells reproduce (mitosis), and it responds to external stimuli. All of these are well-established signs of life.

No, they do. Catholic teaching specifically mandates that you actively promote it at all cost, including as an elected official. You represent God's Law before you represent any other and God's Law takes exclusive precedent.

That is truly one of the silliest (to put it kindly) things I’ve ever read. Every politician (Christian or Muslim, atheist or Hindu, agnostic or Jew) “imposes” their beliefs on the people. Every vote, every signature on a bill, every executive order, and every judgement is in and of itself an outward expression of their belief.

As a society, we do this all the time. "Thou shall not steal" is a "religious" belief. Yet, laws against larceny, burglary, robbery, etc. are on the books in all 50 states. Should we legalize theft because it is a "religious" teaching? "Thou shall not bear false witness" is also a religious, moral teaching. Should we legalize perjury? Slander? Put another way, if a religion was *silent* on these things...e,g, had no opinion whatsoever on the key questions of human existence...then what kind of religion is that? I would HOPE a religion will say "these things are bad." Is a politician *not allowed* to "personally believe" theft is wrong? What kind of person thinks that? Why would we want such a person in a position of elected leadership? Conclusion: politicians should have personal beliefs, and should act accordingly. If you don't like the politician's personal beliefs, vote for one with different beliefs or run for office yourself. The issue with Biden is that he is dishonest with himself and others. He claims to have one set of beliefs ("I am Catholic") but then, when asked, insists he believes something else. If he chooses to believe what he does, that is his business. But it is dishonest to present oneself as believing one way, when one really doesn't. So if Biden is publicly saying "I'm one of his (Gregory's) flock," then Gregory is allowed to respond and say, "not really."

Gee, Bishop, you can't pick and choose? So what hovel or homeless camp do you live in, and where did you get those nice clothes and jewelry? Last I heard, you were supposed to give ALL you have to help the poor and trust god to take care of you. Or is that too "challenging" for you? And you cannot agree that a secular leader should not impose his religious views and criticize him for standing firmly by the idea that we cannot have laws preventing abortion. Yes, he is getting political benefit for doing what the leader of a secular nation SHOULD do!
