He had big moments for us and worked hard for the team. Under martin o'neil helped get us back into europe scoring double figure league goals 3 seasons in a row. That got him called up to England squad where he could have got a move but he stayed with us. He wasnt a world beater but in his prime was a decent premier league striker.

Fair enough i believe Gabby, there would have been a lot going on in Roy's head at that time. He would have been approaching this new professional hat with a "start as mean to go on" and he chose this way as it. Frustration, confusion, tension, once master of his life completely, now not really sure where he is headed. I would like him to manage the Republic on pure charisma and leave the coaching to dedicated experienced pros. But many softies in my country constantly refer back to these stories and whinge its proof it wouldn't work and that the player will hate them. They've got their heads in the wrong decade. If they packaged him and placed him in the right frame for leading Ireland our boys could inspired to be twice the players are. He could play wise sage,.controlled intensity injected in the right place at the right time.

It was -6 celsius on Jan 18th 2001 and we had a 500 metre square concrete foundation to lay, I started crying because I had to do the job i was paid for. Our bosses apologised for the weather and we were ferried home to our beds where our mothers tucked us in and gave us bacon sarnies and a nice mug a tea. In 22 appearances over 11 years, he only scored 4 goals against United, of which only one was a winner, and his record against arsenal is even worse, scoring just once If you want to break it down even further, including premier league, fa cup etc, he played 391 games (the last 2 years of which were in the championship) and scored 87 times, which is an average of just 6.6 goals a season. The guy was average at best, and that’s being nice 😂

@@cureit9161 correct, I’m a United fan. I don’t doubt he probably scored a few important goals for Villa, but he only ever scored one winner against us and arsenal. And if you’re looking at derby matches, he scored 6 in 8 league games against Birmingham (admittedly a decent return) and against Wolves, it was 1 goal in 6, but I’d argue those 7 goals against your derby rivals were against poorer teams than villa at the time, a team where I’d say the players around him were better than he was. I also have no idea how he managed to get called up to the England team either

He probably left cause he had players bothered by the cold. Keane and the manager would not have been running at all and not bothered with the cold

Who's in the wrong here, villa players who clearly either wasn't good enough or didn't like maintaining standards Or Keane, for explaining to people that when you do something, do it properly. Gabriel justifying it by saying we wasn't great at this time. Probably the reason you wasn't great was because you had no standards.

I hate it when coaches moan at you for putting a ball wide in training. You're trying to place the shot, if you just put it nice and easy down the middle you're never scoring.
