@BP "Gangsta" rap came out as early as mid to late 80s Too short 86. Ice T was changing his format around that same time but his album Power put him on the radar in 88. NWA in 87 but no one really noticed. Eazy E in 88 and Straight outta Compton in 89. Around the same time Biz was doing his thing. And 89 still counts.

Biz was one of the most under-rated hip hop artists of all time. Loved the recent Showtime docu made with his wife, Tara. I will miss him very much. Watching him (briefly) perform at a Yo Gaba Gaba concert with my little sweetie was one of the highlights of my life and a huge unexpected surprise. RIP Biz!

Biz put my daughter on his lap and beat boxed with her on stage at a nickelodeon yo Gabba Gabba event. I tell that story to her every year so she don't forget she was on stage with a legend. She's 15 now and just sent me the news about biz . RIP

this comment reminds me of tupac's line ".... even though we came from the same places the money and the fame made us all change places" when hip hop started out this was what it was about music that was made by young people with the knowledge that their moms would listen to it. so it was fun and respectful immidietly the records companies realised it is making inroads into the black community they decided to change it and make it all violent and disrespectful. How you ask? by signing gangster rappers and popularising it and saying the pioneers are too soft just like the way they are doing with mumble rappers now.
