Robert Culp (I-Spy) hosts this bizarre documentary from 1969, which ostensibly is designed to deprogram white people from their cultural bias against blacks, but by the end, completely flips to demonstrate the need for black pride and a Nationalistic culture. Imagine walking into a social studies class back in the day and being show this. It has to be seen to believed. Featuring a young Michael Richards (Seinfeld) as a racist bully. Being 63 and white, I have seen the situation improve dramatically *until the last decade* . I don't know how we got here. Things were advancing steadily, not for everyone of course, but I truly believe we were on the right track. Ever since the 2008 crash, things have steadily gone downhill. It's like I woke up one day and was back in the 60's. I'm here trying to understand why.
@Moon_Rise100
@Moon_Rise100 4 жыл бұрын
@@AGirlHasNoName1.168 I think you know why and how. By you being a white person, it's up to you to get other white people to see the racism and prejudice, black people go through every single day. It's not up to black people. We are tired of trying to convince white people at this point in time. It's up to people like you to show other white folks the era of their ways. Stop being in denial of the cruelty blacks have endured by your people. I think another possible solution is to believe that white children that are now adults were not educated about black people and slavery, especially whites from the South. There has to be a conversation starting with the truth.

I remember as an African-American not being allowed to come into my white friend's apartment because his mother was racist. He said I could come in but only for a few mins. I told him its ok and I didn't want to come in at all. If I'm too black or you are too racist then how will we ever be able to co-exist in harmony. Hatred of the heart & mind means ignorance of the spirit and in return causes human beings to be void of knowledge, wisdom & understanding!!!

The more things seem to change, the more they stay the same. The only difference is that people used to me more honest about their racist beliefs and prejudices. Today the vast majority is all "Huh?" "What?" "Get over it" etc. But they know.

Now, in 2020 post Covid19 (we hope), whites are about to understand some of the fundamentals of this video. Incentive of huge unemployment benefits has already shown people will choose not to work when given the option. With the rise of technology, this will become more widespread. A system MUST be developed to compensate for the loss of jobs, thus hope for the upcoming generation as well as those who were once part of "productive" society. The golden age will be preceded by much pain and misery. We must come together...there is no choice. The wealth gap *must* be bridged. How is up to us all. Our civilization for future generations depends on it. The answer is communication and love. Make it happen...please!

@reelblack i believe this film did not demonstrate the need to for a black Nationalistic american culture. i believe it demonstrated the reverse torque if u will, needed in order to equalize america. black power=power to the people=equality. it sounds nationalistic, perhaps supremacist, but you must build an oppressed people back up through rhetoric that is black focused in order to kick start self-empowerment. this is not nationalistic this is black-centric for the purpose of equality... crazy film. so glad to have been able to watch it.

It's normal to be uncomfortable around the unknown, but the cruelty and disrespect is unacceptable. Children when they are young are innocent yet curious. When I went to my cousins wedding, that was a mixed couple, the little kids that was of different races was playing with each other and asking different questions about appearances. We as adults try to ignore our differences to try and be neutral. This doesn't fix the problem. Be real. You will be amazed at how far it goes when meeting people from different cultures and background. This documentary was interesting and it involves race relations but can be applied to anyone who is different.

As a Black African all I can say on hate: Hate is taught to us, I remember back in 2007 when my country (Kenya) had elections, as soon as deceit was smelt in the air one tribe turned on another, my own families and relatives taught tribal hate and prejudice against a certain tribe and it sinked deep into my mind as a child, luckily exposure helped me see life clearly for what one and who one is...

Why is it that almost all of the Black people in this film had to sound all hip and street when they spoke. It appears that the only exception was the suburban girl that was showing off the house. And even they had to make her sound "white". This tells me that even the filmmakers got caught up in their own racial stereotypes!

I'm not sure why Reelblack described this documentary as "bizarre." The title of the video doesn't match the content wlell. I've heard and or been exposed to pretty much (through personal experience or society) every bit of information/situations depicted in this video. I was two when it was released. Although some progress, in awareness has been made, the video is still applicable today. Society needs to keep moving forward on any progress it's currently made.
