There are a lot of fun things to do in Big Bend National Park, so Driving Line is back and ready to take on one of the best trails in Big Bend and the hardest one the park has to offer: Black Gap trail. The mountains along the route have a whole lot of history and beauty to uncover, complete with some fun obstacles to conquer.

Host Matt Moghaddam, Driving Line Editor-in-Chief Kristin Cline and Nitto Pit Crew member Scott Willeford pick up right where they left off on the last episode. After a day driving into the park and a restful night under the stars, they’re ready to take on Black Gap. If you didn’t catch the last episode, here’s a refresher on the vehicles they brought with them. Matt came with his APG ProRunner Ford Ranger on 35-inch Nitto Ridge Grappler tires, Scott brought his Jeep JLU on 37-inch Ridge Grapplers and Kristin brought a nearly-stock Ford F150 4x4 on Nitto Terra Grappler G2 tires.
The day starts with the three of them visiting the abandoned Mariscal Mine. This used to be the place where nearly ¼ of the Mercury in the US was mined, and the bricks even still have Mercury in them! After the sightseeing, they start out on the trail and run into a few washed-out and rocky sections. They may not be the most difficult, but they definitely test the skill of a beginner off-roader and allow the vehicles to fully articulate.

Right after the rock stack there’s a switch back climb. We strapped a Jeep Compass up the last time we ran it. I like the way they stressed the high clearance!

Kristen's Dad is a bad as! Nice truck! It's certainly not "stock". It looks reverse leveled (lowered).

I don't like ford but I wont lie that ranger is awesome. I have never seen that wide of a ranger.

Headed to Big Bend this summer with the family. We will be in my 2022 Ranger Lariat FX4 stock with HanKook AT M. Are there any trails we should avoid?
