You're only gonna find negativity online because that's a lot more worth talking about in our minds. In reality, most places in modern USA you won't be burdened for being black, it's just the negative experiences that we're gonna remember most and discuss them. The most you'd ever actually get in the majority of the US is maybe a few weird stares because you're in an area that never really sees black people

A friend of mine from the south (white) was seriously off put by the closed-off nature of Bostonians. I’m not willing to say that it’s NOT xenophobia/racism, but at the same time people in Boston are very odd. Not always necessarily hostile, but just kinda cold in public. Regardless, I’m sorry you had a bad experience with the city, I love it but can 100% understand people’s issues with it.

I film the hoods of Boston on my channel and I’m from this area. I’ll be honest as a black man I’ve never experienced racism in the city . If you look like a street nigga, gangster , tough guy, ect they won’t fuck with you(unless police). But if you are going to college, working a good lucrative job, or appear to be 100 percent non violent then yes you could be a victim of racism. It won’t necessarily happen but out here white folk wont pick on people they perceive as a danger to them if they don’t act appropriate. (Unless police because they have a badge and a gun )

I don’t see many black people in my neighborhood or when I’m out and about. My opinion could be skewed but basically, I wouldn’t recommend anyone moving to Boston. If you like cold weather and you’re okay with being one of the very few black faces here, I think you could make it work. DeVonne Dove: Boston is still a majority-white metropolitan area which didn't see blacks arriving here in substantial numbers until the late 1940's. Most of the increased diversity in Boston comes from Latin American, African and Asian immigration. The five people interviewed in the video who like Boston probably have high levels of education, so that they can participate in the city's high tech economy. Note that Massachusetts voters elected African-American Edward Brooke to the US Senate in the 1967 and African-American Deval Patrick (from the south side of Chicago) was governor of Massachusetts for two terms until 2015. When was a black elected as US senator or governor in NC?

🤨 The guy in maroon definitely has misconceptions about the South. Living in the South I’m sure is no more prejudice than Boston. I’m an 80’s baby, born and breed in Gump-Town (Montgomery, AL), the home of the Civil Rights Movement, and I can’t even count on one hand the times I’ve felt “openly” disrespected because of my color. On the other hand, Boston is a town that is known to have been horrible to blacks. They are the ones that raised so much hell about the busing system. He needs to do his research. 😒

Being black & from the South I can tell you that racism is not overt or even "a thing" in most places. Lets face it there can be low-key racism anywhere when you're looking, but for the most part Blacks , Whites, Asians, Indians, and Hispanics get along very well and do have that "southern hospitality" to help people and show love and support.

Ive learned that it’s definitely not overt in most places but definitely still present all over. There are occasional pockets of towns were it is palpably a thing. For the most part racists have just learned to adapt and hide their true feelings and intentions. Only to be seen through micro aggressions or supporting/lobbing systems that prompt oppression in some way or fashion. But when they’re around like minded or presumed to be like minded individuals the truth comes out.

nighlife kinda sucks everything shuts down at 1am but the food scene is banging so if you're a foodie this is the place for you haha. no need for a car either. its as expensive as nyc but doesn't offer the nyc lifestyle if that makes sense. however, it's waaaaaay cleaner and safer than nyc so there's that. also - take the ferry out to martha's vinyard and you'll want to stay forever haha. another option is providence. much cheaper and close to other cities - 1 hour train ride to boston 3 hour train ride to nyc. still has that cute "old city" look, heavy immigrant population so expect amazing food and the night life is much better (many POC from boston go to prov to party). you'll need a car to get around the city but you'll make up for it with the cheaper rent.

You know what I accept decent people gladly. I am not for restructuring anything because you are not comfortable. Go some place where you are happy. No one is forcing you. Boston born and raised. Some of these folks in this video sound like they lived in the suburbs. Boston is a city where you can come up fast but you have network to get your foot in the door. Many people don't understand Boston if they weren't born there. Boston is not anymore racist than any other city. You have some racism here but you also have a lot of people that will look out for you regardless of ethnicity. Most of the so called segregated areas are that way by choice. When many immigrants came to America they moved to areas where their people moved to to feel more comfortable. In South Boston you have predominantly Irish and South End as well as parts of the North End you have Italians but you will find some Blacks & Latinos living there. Dorchester is mixed, Roxbury & Mattapan is mixed but is predominantly Black especially with folks from the Caribbean. Jamaica Plain is mixed but predominantly Latino. Roslindale is a mixed community. Hyde Park is another mixed community as well. Many communities are mixed around Boston, however gentrification is a big thing in Boston. Many areas are becoming settled by young white suburban professionals who want to live closer to work and all the attractions. Boston is one of the most progressive cities in America don't be fooled by the mislabeling.

If you're not rich, don't go there to pretend to be rich or be a snobby person. Atlanta is the south. The people who were born there are very welcoming and show you real southern hospitality. The people who are moving there destroyed the culture of Atlanta. There's no more cheap cost of living. Everywhere is expensive. People that move to Atlanta who pretend to be rich often become depressed because the really rich folks know they're really broke. Atlanta is a great city, but people run to Atlanta to create a new identity and it kills there soul. Atlanta looks good on TV, but it's a place that will have you miserable.

DB I came here and married my girlfriend of four years at the time, and after that I was legally allowed to work anywhere...practically, I couldn’t because of the language barrier. I started to study the language and got a job washing dishes at a restaurant. Not great work, but I was using Japanese all the time. Later I got work teaching English and have been doing that ever since. The Japanese people live by certain moral rules, for the most part, by which they tend to treat everyone with a good level of respect. While I can’t get into their minds and know the truth, it would either way not change the fact that they will usually respect you, and that’s what matters. I know that if one has a college degree, and can easy to get a job teaching English at schools or at. Shopping center English conversation schools.

As a black guy who’s lived in Boston most his life and absolutely LOVES it, I must say not only do I disagree with these folks but they seem WAAAAY to obsessed with race! Like I don’t get all this “where are “my” people?”, “feeling at “home” around other black people,” “”our” type of people” talk. It’s like so they think of themselves as nothing more than the color on their skin? I go to a bar to watch a Patriots playoff game and I’m surrounded by “my” people, Pats fans! I go to an architecture event and I’m surrounded by “my” people, architects. I go to the gym and I’m surrounded by “my” people, gym rats. In fact when I go the gym there are black people, white, Asian, Hispanics, etc, and nobody cares about race, it’s all about weight lifting. The idea of any of these folks in the video only interacting with black gym goers to be around quote “their people” is just weird. And the whole “black success isn’t as much celebrated as it is tolerated” thing. What does that even mean!? Like do you want a parade through the city for achieving success while black? But hey, if these folks care about nothing more than RACE RACE RACE RACE RACE, to each their own!
