Vladimir Putin is reportedly planning to build a 100,000-ton supercarrier in a bid to rival the West. Retired Russian Vice Admiral Vladimir Pepelayev detailed Russia's plans to flex its military muscle once again in an interview to RIA news agency. After retiring from his previous post, the Vice Admiral was tasked with developing an aircraft carrier at the Krylov Research Institute. The comments come in the backdrop of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet (BSF) receiving severe blows from persistent Ukrainian attacks. According to Pepelayev, the mammoth carrier would also be capable of launching stealth fighter jets, like the Su-57. Watch the video to find out more.

No, Russia does not need an aircraft carrier...it never did. It needs larger and more capital ships like destroyers to patrol the North Sea and other oceans it deems fit. 1 aircraft carrier can buy 2-3 destroyers or 5-7 frigates...the choice is clear to rebuild a navy.

Russia shouldn’t build a navy focus on air and ground. Slavic people by their nature are not sea going people they don’t have the ocean in their blood. Despite having the biggest landmass on earth and over 140mio people, Italy has a bigger GDP and this without selling massive amounts of recources and only having about 60 mio people. So offcourse can russia still fight a war, they got the biggest reserves on weapons the world has ever seen. But the USSR needed nearly half a decade to built them and russia is losing them so fast, by this rate, the are running out on "modern" T72/80 tanks in 2025/2026

They aren't in Ukraine. All areas are populated by Russians/Ukrainian secessionists who voted to join the Russian federation. The UN charter of human rights states that every people has a right to self determination. Ever since Washington's coup in Ukraine the people of Donbass broke away, forming their own states. Go to Mariupol, go to Donbass, go to Crimea, you will find overwhelming support for Russia, Putin and the SMO/war. To support Ukraine in taking this land is to support an occupation and no doubt Ukraine will face tough resistance from the people, from the Russians, from the Natives. The facts are undeniable, you can even look at polling data in Ukraine, these regions have always historically voted for pro Russian options. The major problem for russia is that almost all of its seaports are blockaded by nato countries and that threatens their navy highly. In the north the water is too cold and mostly ice which makes naval ship passages almost impossible

Black sea fleet losses are : Old Polish landing ships ( Ropucha), Old soviet Corvette( Tarantul), Patrol boat, fast boats and Moskova cruiser ( obsolete Soviet warship with no planned upgraded)...No modern frigates and Corvette armed with cruise missile have been sunk.

Russia doesn't need a Super Carrier because of where there ports are. Black Sea, is blocked off. The Baltic Sea can be blocked off. The Arctic, freezes up and to try to get a huge ship like that out it would be a easy target. The only port is in the Pacific but it would be watched. Russia is a land country so it doesn't need huge ships, what they need is more Nuke Subs. Corvettes, Frigates and large Frigates will do with missiles like Hyper ones. It is better they spend there money on the Air Force making it larger and the Army!

Russia does have an aircraft carrier. The Admiral Kuznetsov. Russia does need carriers if they want to operate in the worlds oceans they need to be able to operate in international waters amongst normal sea trade and pirates. The Pirates of HATO are very well armed and air power is useful over land and over sea. It improves situational awareness and reach. The difference of course is that a Russian carrier is not an invasion and colonial power carrier like western carriers. Russian ships carry air defence missiles and land attack missiles, an aircraft carrier for Russia will be an air defence carrier that protects their ships and shipping lanes from external influence.

Russia should really stop making these announcements about huge, aspirational plans. It's making them look bad...I mean, even worse. They should stick to talking about things that they actually have the capability to do, though that's not much. They don't have the infrastructure or funding to even start on a ship that big. And their current "carrier" being upgraded and repaired this year? That's probably as realistic as their plans to take Kyiv in three days. I don't expect we'll ever see it go to sea again, unless they somehow get China or India to buy it. But, I doubt those countries would be dumb enough to buy it. It was nice of them to sail their brand-new submarine to Cuba though. Now we know exactly what its acoustic signatures are, it'll make it vastly easier to track in the future!

They can do it but it would be illogical waste and concentration of resources. They need to focus on attack submarines (SSN's), Destroyers (DD's), and Frigates (FF's).

I've never seen claims made that "Russia has run out" of anything. Quite a few saying that they're burning through their stocks MUCH faster than they can be replaced. Some estimates I've seen say they'll be very short on T72s and T90s by 2026 and left with mostly T64s and worse. The kill rate on T72 is already declining because there's fewer of them to kill on the battlefield. But, time will tell. Russia won't be out of tanks soon, but they'll be pretty short on "good" tanks.

@@4411825 No, it's because I don't follow low-accuracy click bait sites and stick to the more reliable sites that use less biased data. I won't say non-biased, because that doesn't exist, but I pay no attention to either edge of the bias spectrum and stick to the middle. Even then, I don't believe everything I see. But if you can't see the sites that show that Russia is losing more equipment every month than they can build new in a year by showing actual individual wrecks, that's not my fault.

The only country needs aircraft carriers is the US, as the US likes to assert dominance far away from home. Unfortunately, aircraft carries are becoming obsolete, Billions spent on them not including the aircraft, then one hypersonic missile and all is gone. I do not understand why Russia wants one.

This (still only planned) project has nothing to do with Black Sea and the Black Sea Fleet. The carriers (up to 4) would join the Northern Fleet and the Pacific Fleet. As for Putin, the carriers would come out in the 2030s, which would be after Putin's time.

Besides the cost of building a super carrier, it will be a very large target, regardless of the defensive weapons on it. A conventional war would soon turn into trading nuclear attacks and it will be a sitting duck.
