Same here! Turning 60 next July, I’ve played this song many times at beach parties in Hawaii when the kids at the time sort of remembered it and joined in. It’s a classic everyone alive remembers in some fashion. One of the best “join in” beach party songs I resorted to among a mixed crowd. As soon as the chorus kicks in, “Oh black water, keep on rollin’ Mississippi moon…”, People of all ages feel it whether they remember it or not. It’s just one of those songs. These guys arranged it so well! It’s tear-jerking I agree. The different voices coming in on lead, the harmonies, captured the soul of this classic song. I’ve played this at beach parties after a gig that didn’t play this song at all. Not even remotely related to it. Yet, everyone is singing along and smiling to this song on a beach with just a couple guitars and lots of voices. I wish my professional gigs went as well and fun as playing Black Water in the sand with a bunch of strangers.

I’d like to add something I remember about a crowd at the beach just taking off on this song. Me and my rhythm guitarist set up the song and just start out the whole feel. Because at a beach party there’s no rules, people pick which part they want to sing and sometimes join a team on the chorus. The lead is right there in the background and some join in and commit to that. Or they’ll change places just for fun. No matter what, it’s the most fun unpracticed group song ever.

D-minor, well known in the Spinal Tap movie as the “saddest of all chords” add a 7th to it and there’s hope all of a sudden. That’s what I did with this song that started just barely sad, then turned happy without changing keys. The lyrics tell the mood. The guitarist has to interpret the feeling projected on the fly. Sorry if I’ve gone on too long. Love this song, love these fine musicians, and I’m just smiling remembering things I forgot about years ago. Just an old man missing his youth I guess. Peace and aloha to all of you. 🤙🏼

The joy they have in their music flows through their playing. I’ve been playing guitar for 45 years and I wish I had half of their talent. I did have some medical issues that I overcame, was temporarily paralyzed from the neck down which affected me for a long time, but recent spinal surgery has brought back the dexterity and hand coordination.

Friends, I'm recovering from a surgical procedure and in a lot of pain. Watching this just lifted me out of my pain for a few minutes and brought a huge smile to my face. It was heavenly! I was a teen in the 70's and Black Water was one of the best (coolest, baaadest, grooviest, most far out) of the many awesome songs to come out of that decade. Your artistry here in this arrangement was true enough to the original to take me back to those days, and yet original enough to let me appreciate you, some of my favorite musicians. I follow all of you (except the bass player - don't know Andrew) on KZfaq and love your work.

That's a great rendition! The Black Water 45 rpm was the first piece of music I ever bought back when I was 8 or 9 years old. All the other kids were getting into Kiss, but this was the song I couldn't wait to come on the radio. Hearing this now reminded me why I loved it some much, it has all the elements I still appreciate in music to this day. What a great performance!

I scanned through the comments to see if I was the only one who didn't know she played banjo. When I saw the reflection of her in the beginning with that banjo, boy, did it wake me up!

I have been watching her since she was in college and had not seen her with a banjo. Toni is a supreme picker but Reina is really very good.

Andrew Forman throwin’ it down on bass guitar. As great as the vocals, acoustic guitars and banjo are, the bass guitar is what really drives this song.

My absolute favorite song that takes me back to 1974! Honestly was a little afraid your group, that I truly love, might “damage” my beloved song that I have listened to hundreds of times. But NO! I really enjoyed it! Thank you!!! All while sitting cross legged barefooted in the back of an RV! The key was the guitar licks that Josh and Toni killed! Banjo? Of course Reina! I shouldn’t have worried 😅

My first thought was that I did not want to hear that overplayed old song again. How could I have been so wrong. You injected new life into a stale old classic. Well done . . . no, I really mean it - welllllll done.

I call it Carson’s 70’s porn stach. He covers up his handsome face. Why? I don’t know. I agree. I was a southern hippie myself. Love this song by the Doobie Brothers. These guys do a fantastic covering it. It amazes me how well they cover songs with very few instruments. The songs actually sound better than the originals.

THIS Makes this old fart HAPPY! Used to Rock Out with the likes of Doobie's Clapton Floyd and SO many others back in the day. Now at 63 I STILL rock out to these & SO many others. It's so refreshing that you youngers find such value in these classic Rock R&B and Blues tunes that you Perfect your cover with Just Enough creative license to make them your own. Absolutely WELL DONE! Thank you

Wonderful! And this may be a trivial appreciation, but I love how you all stayed perfectly in pitch during the a capella. When the instruments came back in, you needed zero pitch adjustment. That’s a mark of seasoned pros.
