It's to Rik Mayall's absolute credit that he was able to convincingly portray someone who women find so utterly repellent in Bottom, and the incredibly dashing and handsome Lord Flashheart in Blackadder. Amazing acting and comedic talent. Even after all these years he is still sorely missed.

@@MrEAus yes, I read that about his TNS character too, though I always thought it was more how he looked rather than the type of person his character was. I've also read about people fancying Richard Richard but again they were more attracted to the vulnerability of the character; from what I've read of Rik's interviews he was both amused and bemused by it. He was so good at playing such repulsive characters and wasn't afraid to make himself look unattractive, but as himself he was a very attractive chap (though I didn't get it until I saw him in his Rik Mayall Presents series') - heck, guys don't really do it for me but my solitary braincell would have turned straight for Rik!

Many legends only become legends when they pass away... Rik Mayall was one when he was alive too... UK TV misses characters that he helped create and played, a true star and comedy genius! :)

Blackadder and the young ones was my childhood. I was devastated when he passed. When I lived in London I made a little pilgrimage to his bench in Hammersmith. He was so brilliant.

Yes that was Eddie from bottom, his name is Adrian Edmondson. He and Rik met at University and starred in many things together. They first found fame together in The Young Ones, another classic series worthy of a reaction.

Great reaction. That was Eddie from Bottom. If you're laughing at Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson, then you should really consider sticking The Young Ones on your watch list. It's written by Ben Elton who wrote Blackadder and it's from the same era. Slightly earlier. If you want ridiculous over the top characters, then that's where to find them. It's a bit surreal, but brilliantly so.

Series 2. It’s much more polished then series 1 The young ones is Arguably the most important uk comedy ever considering how many other shows have its dna. If it wasn’t for the young ones this episode wouldn’t have even existed

i enjoyed the young ones at the time but bought it 5 yrs ago didnt find it as funny , although some episodes are still funny the one where they take a train journey to play university challenge is one of the best

I just love how inexplicably Flashheart just lays out Baldrick. Twice. The way he sarcastically laughs with Baldrick at his own joke right before he floors him.

The German guy is Ade Edmundson, he is Rick's comedy partner. They've worked together since about 1980, but actually met at Manchester University. Ade was one of the pall bearers at Rick's funeral. He is married to comedy actress Jennifer Saunders of Absolutely Fabulous fame.

Although you didn't show it my fav scene in this is when flash says treat your kite like you treat your women. George replies how do you mean take her home on the weekends to meet your mum. And flash says no get in her 5 times a day and take her to heaven and back. Classic blackadder episode.

That's probably my favourite Flashheart line - he insults Darling and simultaneously has no awareness of his self-own regarding his sexual prowess . Rik was just brilliant time and again.

Watching an american watch blackadder for the first time...It was very british and now its very old...This was part of my culture growing up in my late teens/early twenties...We still quote it to friends just Python to this day...and now watching a US reaction in 2022 some 40 years later is so weird...but also great!...Thanks for the vids AWR...

Rik mayall was one of my all time favourite british comedians I remember watching him as a kid doing a show called grimtales, was him telling the grims fairy tails in his own over the top way.

Me and my friends where in 6th form at school (yr 11 and 12?) and were constantly recreating scenes/phrases from this one. I always remember Flashheart in training: "Right, you treat your crate (whips the plane diagram) like your woman!

Had the chance to do a stage adaptation of Blackadder Goes Forth years ago at our local theatre. Private Plane with Lord Flashheart was one of the episodes we staged. Needless to say, being a part of that show was one of the best times of my life. This was one of my favourite episodes of Blackadder, not just because Rik was back as Flashheart, but also because Ade was opposite him again as Baron Von Richtofen. They were always magic on screen together. Ironic, really…Lord Flashheart was only in two episodes of Blackadder and yet was just as iconic as Rik’s other roles (Rik, Richie and Alan B’stard). And showed what an amazing versatile performer/comedic genius he was. Still beloved and missed to this very day. Great reaction as always, mate!

You should check out the young ones UK series , that was a crazy group of guys flatting together consisting of Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmonson (The kinky German) it was a huge hit around the world at the time

Stephen fry and Hugh Laurie met at university and became a double act getting a show on TV. Rik mayall and ade Edmondson met at university and became a double act.you"be seen them in bottom and they were half of the young ones before that.they also were characters called the dangerous brothers that wore badly fitting suits and did dangerous things that hurt them this was before their other stuff and how they knew they could do the stuff they do on bottom. Ade Edmondson has been married to Jennifer Saunders for many years.she had a double act with dawn french.they had their own sketch show that included film parodies like silence of the lambs were dawn was Hannibal and Jen was clarice.dawn went on to have her own sitcom the vicar of Dibley and Jen had absolutely fabulous all their stuff is worth a look!

I loved Filthy, Rich & Catflap..... The Comic Strip was an early shoot off, supergrass, hotel paradiso, a fist full of travellers cheques, dirty movie, and the film Eat The Rich - wonderful period of classic comedy!

I know you get loads of recommendations but please watch The Gunfighter by magnet film, it's 8 minutes long and is free to watch on KZfaq. It's hilarious and shouldn't be any copyright issues as a couple of small reaction channels have covered it.
