As a fellow Indiana Hoosier, and as someone who has been mentored by Rupert and his wife for a short while, I can tell you without a doubt that what you see of Rupert on the show is more or less who he is in real life. He's a genuine 100% classy guy, and I'm glad I had the chance to meet him even for those few days.

One thing you forgot, was how after Rupert got the boot, one of the girls who got back to the camp before the others, took all the fish that Rupert had caught and tossed it away into the sea, reasoning that they shouldn't benefit from Rupert's work.

I had never watched Survivor until the announced a "pirate themed" season... then a bushy man with an a amazing laugh and impish grin stole some shoes... and my heart.

I think Pearl Islands is one of the top 5 most memorable seasons in Survivor history.

This was Ruperts most dominant season if he had a better strategy his rank would be unsurpassable. But him not winning doesn’t take away Rupert being a Survivor Legend

I think every main character in Survivor has their own charm: Rupert’s Roar = his signature move Parvati’s Flirt = her flirty, manipulative side Sandra’s Lies = all her lies that led her to win Rob’s Lead = everyone riding his coattails Tony’s Spy Shack = the memorable spy shack

Pretty sure this guy owns the arcade in my town, I've talked to him half a dozen times and I never knew he freaking won survivor. Great dude, he's very humble in person and loves to know he's helping out the youth

A little bit late, my family unexpectedly came over, Rupert isn’t really a strategist, but he still has one of the best personalities. And easily one of the most fun to watch in the Classic Era and the show as a whole.

This was one of my first seasons of 'Survivor' way back in the day.. and, I will forever refer to Ryan O. as Rhino.

Rupert Pearl Islands is pure Rupert, once he starts to play into the character of Rupert on future seasons, his appeal will wane. However, Rupert 1.0 was the most unique person that was cast in the first 7 seasons. The interesting thing that I've noticed on my own rewatch is that Rupert edit does expose his flaws but since most of the flaws come out when directed at Fairplay or Shawn, we as the audience back then didn't care.

I watched all this on tv when it aired, when I was a kid, and Ruper was my favorite one out of every season, in was sad that he got voted out, but kinda glad at the same time, I saw how much he was suffering from missing his family, and I knew it was only going to develop into a Darth Vader complex iykwim.

This first aired when I was in grade 7. Definitely rooted for Rupert at that time.

This is the season that’s stuck in my mind the most. Rupert was someone we could all relate to. I must’ve been in elementary school during this season.

Man, when I was a kid watching Pearl Islands back in the day, Rupert was my hero. I loved the guy so much that when he eventually got voted out, I turned off the TV and refused to watch the rest of the season out of pure devistation. I did end up watching the rest about 10 years later when I got back into Survivor and played catch up and was so happy to see him eventually win his choice reward. The guy was simply a legend and he almost single handedly made Pearl Islands one of the best survivor seasons ever in my opinion. I don't know why they haven't done more pirate themed seasons and they certainly should... but maybe it's just partly because they know they can't replace Rupert and would rather let him be remembered as the true pirate survivor.

I know it's far in the future, but I'm SO excited for the possibility of David vs Goliath stories. An Angelina story video would be the best. Heroic acts like climbing a 300 foot ladder for an idol! What a hero. This gets forgotten, because of how humble she is, but she got rice for the ENTIRE tribe. That story video would be amazing XD.

Rupert!!! Starting survivor 2 months ago (currently on Fans vs Favorites), I had heard a little about Rupert from my older brother (who's a long time big fan), but I definitely loved him immediately when he pirated the other tribe's stuff in episode 1. That's one of my favorite moments on the show in a way. Watching now!

He got 8th place in Pearl islands, 4th place in all stars, and 6th place in heroes vs. villains. And America gave him a million dollars. Not to bad. (Well, I haven’t seen his other season blood vs. water)

Why is no one talking about how Burton's plan to lose purposefully goes up in flames when he is immediately voted out.

Watching Rupert on season 20 just shows how much of a stand up guy he is. I hope nothing but the best for this man.

i have literally never watched survivor, and this channel was randomly recommended to me the other day. i think i've been missing out.

This isn't the best season of Survivor but it's the one that got me hooked and made go back to watch every season. Rupert and Fairplay were true characters.

Any chance you could stratify the classifications of hero/villain and smart/dumb? There have been instances in which there's a split of roughly 55/45 and you label them the exact same way as if there was a 90/10 split. Potentially an "Extremely heroic/villainous/smart/dumb" player for an 80/20 split of moments or more, "rather" for anything between 60/40 and 80/20 and then "somewhat" if it's closer than 60/40. Seeing a few people who act more like "Fairplay" than "Blackbeard" in this thread. kinda makes me sad; Rupert played the game well, to get where he did. His problem was a lack of adaptability. He played the Pirate game all the way through to the end, but didn't have enough vision to watch his back for the knife that inevitably would've been pointed at it. Strategically, his biggest mistake, was not eliminating Jon earlier, imo. If Johnny was gone, he wouldn't have had the opportunity to poison the minds of the others against him, and Rupert could've easily kept himself in everyone's good graces by continuing to be a provider and the life of the camp. It's a lesson I hope he learned from before All Stars.

I remember watching this season in grade school after just learning about Sir Francis Drake and Rupert was my absolute favorite character!!

Rupert was certainly larger than life on Pearl Islands. Everything that man did throughout felt like an event and it was hard not to love him here. Whether it was his complete embrace of the pirate theme, his snake Balboa, or his roar and crazy smile (which will always be hilarious to me), he was one of a kind. Unfortunately, that also made him easily the biggest threat which meant there was no way he was making it even close to the finals. He does get a bit worse for me in later seasons but we do still at least have this season.

I saw Rupert at a bowling alley north of Indianapolis called Pinheads. He had two women hanging off his arms and was wearing shades inside. It was pretty surreal.

He didn't win the game but Rupert won our hearts.

The best part about Rupert's threat level being so high is that he wasn't really doing anything to make it that way. He was just being himself, and himself was too powerful.

Trish is an underrated pre-merge boot. She impressed me way more than the likes of Caleb who was a pre-merge boot that got to play again. Trish played a new school game in an old school season at the pre-merge stage. She was ahead of the times. Had she gotten to the merge with Fairplay the two of them would have wreaked havoc together She was also put at a disadvantage by the outcast twist by being voted out too recent and not having time to integrate into the outcast tribe. Displaying the flaw in the twist - getting further was a disadvantage. Which is ridiculous
