Awesome initial thoughts Matt, thank you. However I did give you some bad info, evidently I can’t read a calendar. LOL! The release date is on Monday the 16th. Sorry for the confusion, completely my fault.

What the hell William?! We must wait an additional 24 hours due to your inability to read a calendar? I think you owe us far more than a simple apology. I would appreciate a beer with that apology, that would let me know you are being sincere. Just kidding William. Good looking functional knife. I may consider purchasing one. (That beer just might help me decide).

Thank you so much for the kind words my friend! I changed that date in the info box above. I hope the release is very successful. I also hope it is helpful to others to see the knife in use and what it is capable of. Thank you for a fine product once again sir. Much respect!

I really appreciate that my friend! That actually is true. It is basically a WCNK without the tanto style tip. The WCNK handle is SO comfortable however, some people cannot get on board with that style of tip. This should be a great compromise for them. Honestly, I was very skeptical about the WCNK tip as well as I have never thought of a tanto style tip as a woods knife. I was pleasantly surprised just how well it actually performed when I started making try sticks with it. That being said, I do prefer a more nimble tip like the Woodsman's EDC offers. Keep filming brother, it gets easier over time :) I look back to my first year of filming YT videos (2009) and it was terrible!! I wouldn't even show myself on camera but rather talked from behind the camera. I hope I can continue to improve my presentation with time and practice. Keep at it brother!

I wonder if you could use that point to scrape out the dish of a spoon? I can see a lot of uses for that shape you couldn't do with a normal blade.

You definitely can. It isn't the same as working with a spoon knife but it is much easier than a straight blade.

Matt, I love your videos and this question is somewhat off topic. Not way off but ... I am looking to buy a bushcraft knife and sadly, only one. Could you do a comparison of the Kephart XL, the Survival, and Scorpion XL all by PKS. I have been very impressed with the thought and price of the Pathfinder products. Thanks.
@blackhatbushcraft
@blackhatbushcraft 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Kenneth. I appreciate your kind words and I was actually planning to do a side by side comparison of the Kephart and the Kephart XL already. I don't currently have the Kephart XL but hopefully have one coming in the next few weeks. I do have the Scorpion XL so as soon as I get the Kephart XL, I will get that video done for you my friend. I have to say upfront however, I really like the original PKS Kephart :) It will be hard to beat that one for me with the other designs. I love the Scorpion blade profile but the handle isn't quite a good fit for my hand. Maybe one of these days I can influence a scorpion profile blade with a new handle design :)

After having a Tom brown tracker ..... I am staying away from those types of blade designs...... difficult to sharpen. Although it’s a good design and has many uses . Btw I know how to sharpen a blade very well and have all the tools to do it. Keep it simple !

Great review again! You should be a knife salesman lol. It looks like a mini belt knife. I would definitely like to have one of these. Does that handle material seem like it will hold up well with time? I just put my Xmas money on the Nessy multigrind 😀 can’t wait for that to come! How are you liking the Nessy so far?
@blackhatbushcraft
@blackhatbushcraft 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! You know, I could really enjoy knife sales because I love knives and enjoy using them and talking about them so much :) The Sure-Touch handle scales feel amazing and actually feel VERY durable. I can't imagine that it wouldn't hold up for the long haul. As for the Nessy, I love it and have carried it with me either on my belt or in my daypack everywhere I have been since I've had it. I use it a ton and even at home in the kitchen I have used it often just to have time using it. I believe you will enjoy it as long as you use it for it's intent. Fine carving, light duty camp tasks and food prep. That is about 85% of what I use my knife for though. I pair it with a small axe in the woods so that I am not tempted to baton it. I would love to hear what you think of it once you get it and use it a bit :) Thank you for your time, interest and kind words!

Black Hat Bushcraft I work the same way. Almost all my work is done with my hatchet. The only time i baton is for really small stuff or crafting. I usually won’t unless I can bob it through with my palm.

How do like the sharp point in the middle compared the smoother curve of the Junior for example? It seems like many of William's recent designs are moving towards very defined points or teeth along the blade. Just curious to what your usage is. Thanks.
@blackhatbushcraft
@blackhatbushcraft 4 жыл бұрын
It does have it's function. I am honestly more used to the smooth curve of the Junior but that is probably due to the hours spent using it. I think both designs have merit and it is more of a personal preference thing. I also think what you get used to using is a big factor. I think lots of people who are used to traditional designs are initially stumped by some of the WC designs but once your use it a bit, the design intentions start to become more apparent. Thank you for your time and interest to tune in and comment!
