First time i've come across this channel. Nice introduction showing the craft from beginner to master in the time! I've been learning under the instruction of a highly competent smith at 2 weekly intervals for the past 42 months with enforced breaks due to covid. I haven't got as far as fire welding yet (but hope to start early next year) My own experience is that as a beginner you really need to learn how and where the fire heats your steel and how to control that before you can shape it at the anvil to meet your expectations. Very well stated in the vid, and I have a load of failures teaching me by example that this is true. I added my sub straight way after watching.

Punching is better than drilling n lot's of way's because you can make different shape holes

I’ve already mastered upsetting years ago, my ex told me so.

Usually I get mad at KZfaq blacksmithing videos. This one significantly less so. Those are the key operations, I can't argue (except of course with the myriad finer points, unnecessarily). To anyone watching this if the book reads like the video it's probably a decent buy for someone starting out.
