Watch me make a brick hammer from scratch. A somewhat challenging project as I tried to match a given weight and size. It turned out ok I think.

I’m a geologist in the US. This type of hammer in the US is called a Masons Hammer and I have found this to be a much more useful shape to use in exploring rocks than a rock hammer. The downside of yours is that it’s beautiful and I wouldn’t want to mess it up. Amazing work.

Ah, nice! I used to pick mineral samples at old mines here in Sweden. I think a ordinary geologist hammer is harder and this one would probably wear quite fast.

This is would be good for soft rocks only. For hard rocks, you really need a traditional geologist's hammer.

Good craft is an art. It took some time, but my dad's yelling "put that hammer back from where you took it after you finish!" payed off. Maybe it takes a bit longer to focus on details, but shortcuts usually takes twice as much time 😆 With a pretty and handy tool, work is much more satisfying. At the end, if you can show your work and be proud of it (or at least if you can say "it's my creation" without a shame), it means you put a bit of heart in that. And if someone else works on your machine or with your tools, they can sense this. Very often i can see if someone putting a machine together cared, or just wanted to make his/hers job done and forget about it. If i see wires in the electrical cabinet neatly put in cable trays, if connectors are crimped nicely, i can bet this cabinet will have much higher chance of functioning properly for many years, because someone who made it, simply cared about work. And this makes my job easier when I'm searching for a problem.🙂

I love hammers. I have a collection of hammers. I've made several little ones. I would love to smith some hammers, but I suck at forging, and never seem to have enough time in the day to work on it. I would work at night once it's cool, but it's really loud... Maybe I can finally make a stand for my forge soon, so I don't have to kneel when i work... that and chaining my anvil down to a stump.

Everything you do becomes a work of art! I really love, what I saw as a Swedish flag at the top of the hammer, but I guess some/most people may just say it's a cross and a smart way to secure the hammer to the handle, but to me it was an obvious flag AND a beautiful way to secure the hammer + handle :) I may just be homesick, even though I'm only in the country "next door" (Norway).
