A hoe can come in many shapes and sizes. Today I make a leaf shaped one, that is perfect for digging and harvesting potatoes and other vegetables.

There's nothing more I like, than to watch a master craftsman at work. And, what I really enjoy about this video is no crappy music dubbed in. Watching a master blacksmith at work without all the lousy music and boring dialog or monologue it such a pleasure. Seeing blacksmiths at work tells its own story. The visuals and the audio of the work are the story-line and plot. The final product is the epilogue, or the final chapter of that story. If I thought for one second, that I could afford to buy any of the things that you make I would do so without hesitation. I know quality work when I see it. I'm a blacksmith/knifemaker, but nowhere near the skill level as you. I specialize in Northwest Coastal Native tools of The Greater Pacific Northwest Coast of North America. I mostly just make tools for my own use now and broke away from trying to retail and sell what I make. Most people just want me to give them the tools, rather than buy. So I make, but don't sell. It was a frustration that had haunted me for years, so when I gave up selling I found the joy of blacksmithing and knifemaking again. I am hired occasionally to teach, give demonstrations, or to make tools at an Alaskan Native Heritage Center for their woodcarving classes... that is the only time I charge for my things, and I never yield any profit from it. However, I get the joys and pleasures of watching young people use the tools I make and take pride in the works they learn. It's a worthwhile tradeoff. Thank you for always making inspirational videos, and thank you for always being the master craftsman and professional that you are.

As I watch this video, what strikes me most is the _apparent_ delicacy the power hammers exert on the hot metal when you are fist shaping it. I'm sure they are hitting the mettal much harder than it appears, but it looks as if you are barely tapping the metal into shape - almost as if you are asking the metal to form itself. It's another beautiful tool you've created. Thanks for sharing the process with us. BTW - I cannot express how grateful I am for the natural sounds of the forge and workshop while you work. I greatly appreciate them; to me, they are peaceful, calming music rather than the squawk of an artificial overlaid musical score.
