I'm really glad I watched this one. There are many deceptively complicated techniques and a great deal of skill needed in making what seems, on the face of it, to be a simple enough tool. I have a feeling that if I were to try and make a C-spanner it would emerge like a question mark in wingdings! Thanks for posting Torbjörn.

I can really appreciate this video you made because I work on forklifts and rebuild hydraulic cylinders. There are many times I don’t have the right size wrench to disassemble them.

I love seeing tools made by a blacksmith that would normally be made by a machinist, or commonly by some forge stamping machine. Hand forging tools that are used mostly *BY* machinists is fabulous! While this particular tool is being used on a woodworking lathe, it wouldn't look out of place sitting on a modern CNC lathe or milling machine.

Videography is getting better ever time...a real joy to watch. Robert Heinlein once said; "A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." If he was alive to day I think he would add create good video, forge metal tools and ice skate with kids... Thank You Torbjorn for 14 minutes that makes ones day. ~PJ

Helmets, well done! I was skiing once and I fell hard. I was wearing a helmet and still got rocked pretty bad. Seeing stars and I felt a little sick to my stomach the rest of the day. Glad I was wearing that helmet.

The problem is that today, even if someone has access to tools, he will just say "i can't do that, i don't know how". It was a bit of a surprise to me, since i was raised in a house full of tools, where my dad would always fix something and for me it is normal. As a kid i would "help" my dad to fix a car, usually by giving him wrong tools for the job, but that's how i learned. He tought me also to make my own tools if i need them. And i appreciate this skill more and more every day, because it's a way of solving problems. It's the attitude - you see a problem, you find a solution. Maybe that's why i work as a service tech and i love my job ☺ And i just LOOOOOVE watching channels like Torbjorn's. Recently i started some fun with spoon carving and it seems like there is no good hook knife on the market in Poland. I guess i will have to get a couple of bricks, some charcoal, bring my dad's old anvil from the depths of the workshop and just give it a go at some blacksmithing :D

If i wasn't such a summer person i would probably envy your beautiful frozen lake as a Dutch person ... personally i prefer the hot chocolat and the fireplace though as iceskating merely reminds me of cold everywhere, blistered feet and falling. But to each his own, i do like ice gliding (run then glide) but ice skating, meh ... Also, glad you showed the actual use of the end result, never even saw a tool like this, now i even saw it made and used. Very enjoyable to watch and learn, tnx for sharing :)

Torbjorn, thanks for the video. I had to retire from the fire service, last year, but we also use spammers for our fire hose couplings. I had never thought to forge one, but I think I’ll give it a try. It would be cool to have it in a display case. Also, since your able to do anything, I expected you to do a triple lutz or something on the ice. Haha.

Nice video, Torbjörn. The hook key / nose key looks great, nice if you can do the things yourself. Since I'll see if I can use something like that with me too. Although, if you put a piece of cardboard between the holder and the chuck. Something I have currently and need in places no key if I want to solve it. The cardboard ring I have inner diameter as large as the shaft is recording and the outer diameter is as large as the size of the receiving ring from the chuck.
