Surprisingly easy! Not saying that they are anywhere near perfect but it's quite easy to get a nice looking result. If you wanna do this yourself make sure to make the stamp mirrored.
Thanks for watching!

If you wanted to get a good deep stamping on hot steel you could cut your stamp short and well it to a small piece of angle iron. Put that angle iron over your vice jaw and simply press the touch mark into the blade without using a hammer or anything. Although since you're using it on leather too this takes away some versatility. Maybe you've thought of this, I just thought it might be helpful. Great work.

Great job! I love the little creative elements you put into the editing! Like the snap to get the fire going, it seems trivial but I think it really adds to the video without taking up too much time. I've been trying to make a maker's maker's for my armor, do you think a case hardened mild steel would do the job?
@MakeNCreate
@MakeNCreate 6 жыл бұрын
don't have any experience with case hardening but if it's just as hard a normal hardened steel, I don't see anything wrong with it. Thanks!

@MrRShoaf

I think I would take a different approach. Your stamp is OK for a leather stamp but to mark steep items I don't think it is optimal. I think that the cutting edge needs to be sharper to require less force to make a stamp. I would start with a piese of flat ground tool steel in the anealed state. Make up the artwork you want and have it engraved into the plate using a V shaped cutter. Next harden and temper the engraved plate. When you want to make the stamp, size a piece of tool steel and heat only the tip and quickly place the blank over the mark and hammer. The result will give you a stamp that will be even and sharp that you can harden and temper. That will give you a stamp that you can duplicate easily and will allow you to stamp your product cold, and get a clear and crisp impression. If you wanted to make a hot stamp with a wider stamping face, take the cold stamp and grind off the sharp face a bit.. This stamp could be used cold on leather if you wanted also. Now you can make as many stamps as you need in the future off the master die.

If I may jump in here....you need a higher carbon steel. Coil springs, sucker rods, 4140, 5150/60, W1, O1, H13, etc. Something with enough carbon for you to be able to heat treat (harden and temper).
