In this video I make a pair of glass blowing jacks. It's probably the most used and most versatile tool in the glass blowers tool arsenal. At the same time it's also a super specialized tool. I had great fun making this one and my friends at Bergdalahyttan seemed to like my finished product!

As a professional glass blower and a hobbyist knifemaker who has contemplated making jacks for years this video is absolutely heaven sent. I have seen jacks made by other blacksmiths before and they usually approach it like they were making blacksmithing tools. Much more crude and meant to be operated by force. Jacks are a delicate precision tool and you made just that. Cudos!

Being a helper in local glassblowing workshops, I knew the end form of your creation. Watching you get to that end form was a joy to watch. Your craftsmanship and attention to detail are inspiring. Then, seeing the jacks being used was a delight. Thank you for sharing!

Hats off to that! As a glassblower myself, I have always admired the tool makers of the craft. The jacks you made look as good as any of the ones i have seen. The comment that glassblower made about how smooth your jacks are was a really good compliment. There was an Italian tool maker named Carlo Dona who made some of the most beautiful glass jacks and he polished the blades to a mirror finish. In doing that, the wax wouldn't stay on the blades and would often scratch the glass. Maybe you did your research or maybe you just lucked out, but leaving some texture on the blades is important. Make some diamond shears next : ) Very impressive work!
