The Stryker was the 1st Benchmade and the 1st "nice" knife I ever came into contact with. Was lucky enough to pick up a non-serrated mini-auto about 10 years ago and boy I wish they still made it. Can still get the full-size half-serrated auto and I may have to pick one up just to have another.

Longtime Benchmade collector, user and fanboy and for good reason. Was the #1 brand knife carried and used daily while deployed and served me extremely well, so much so that continued buying and using long after got out of the military in '07. Yup they can be a tad overpriced per model($20-30) but truly are worth every penny spent as you get a quality product with great craftsmanship using quality materials and a phenomenal customer service. You pay for more than "just" a knife when buying Benchmade. Really want to get a Shootout for a birthday gift for myself in January as I'll turn 43 and got a nice custom Osborne for my 40th from my sister and brother-in-law. Edit: I own a Spike and Leopard as well from mid 90's and my Ares Black Class which was 1st Benchmade I ever bought myself along with a Nimravus before left for Basic Combat Training.

Ah, I remember getting in and/or selling a lot of these models back in the day. That Skirmish was one of the first drop-shut framelocks I'd ever experienced. I'd LOVE to see Benchmade bring back the 921 "Switchback", or at least a dealer exclusive or sprint run. Had the same design language as the 940, a thinner grind, nice wharncliffe shape and a secondary slipjoint blade in the back.

In 2009 I spent most of my time in a little place called FOB Salerno. All the "cool guys" had Benchmade Infidels. Earlier this year I was able to add one (full size, green) to my collection from BHQ. It doesn't see much pocket time, but it has a lot of sentimental value to me.

The one with the anodized to dots the 635 Skkirmish designed by Blackwood I still view s one of the finest knives I've ever owned. Sadly sold but, if Benchmade ever reproduced I would gladly buy even if priced into the $350-$400 range if they kept materials and quality the same but added bearings. Serious fine knife.

Awesome conversation that educated me a lot, thank you guys! I nerd out so bad listening to other knife collectors talk about the companies and knives that rock their world and why. The only Benchmade in my collection is the full size Crooked River. And I will never forget the unboxing experience of first opening, holding, deploying and personally taking in its design, aesthetics, feel in hand and build quality. The wow factor of that knife straight out of the box is something very special that never wears off. An instant classic. So cool to see all the Benchmade classics that came before, this was a treat.

I think the balisong community would agree with me on this one. The benchmade 42. Pretty much the gold standard for all balis today. You guys should have me on. I’ll fly into blade hq anytime just let me know. I have quite the rare collection. You can look at my older videos. Many I haven’t shown. Bunch of prototypes from the 90s. I have all the ones on the table here but those aren’t so rare. Try a purple 2550 or a 1998 prototype benchmade 710. Or the single edge infidels. Those are some of my favorites.

My EDC for a very long time was the Benchmade Switchback, a knife I adore but apparently wasn’t a hit. If we’re talking beauty though, we inherited my father-in-law’s pre-production Benchmade Darkstar, which I think is still one of their more lovely designs.

I remember in the mid 90's seeing a gun magazine that had a full page back cover ad advertising a Benchmade knife. at that point in time I had never heard of Benchmade but the ad caught my attention. A dinner table with a T-bone steak on a big plate and a big fork holding down the steak. The knife had cut through the plate the fork and the T-bone in one clean surgical slice. I didn't have an in depth knowledge of knife blade metallurgy at the time but that ad really was an attention getter. I had to have one... I remember talking with a guy that ran a knife shop at a mall and he said that the blade steel was nicknamed the "Steel of the Gods" and took the knife I had on me and shaved the edge off of it with a Benchmade from the display case in the store. he laughed and I was a little pissed but it was not an expensive knife although, I cant recall the actual type of steel the Benchmade was. Sometime later as luck would have it back around 1996 I ran across a display case of Benchmades being sold in a pawn shop in Omaha. so I looked at them as he had a couple different types including an auto, I want to say it was an Elishewitz design but not 100% sure and actually was heavier and a little bigger than I was used to carrying but it was the "Steel of the Gods" and my knife was missing its edge so I convinced the proprietor to sell it to me being prior military (Benchmade has that rule about selling autos to civilians), spent way to much for it and the pawn shop guy says to me, you know this is a left handed knife? Well, I'm a lefty and thought WTF? is a left handed knife? Then he shows me, the blade was dull black with a single beveled edge and serrations on the RIGHT SIDE of the blade as was the release button but I cant recall the type of locking design …I want to say the handle was synthetic not metal. man there was no other like my left handed auto Benchmade "Steel of the Gods" knife and I carried that treasure with me for a dozen years before I lost it in the fire...spelt divorce... I've contacted Benchmade a few times over the years trying to procure another left handed blade but seems everyone that worked there in that time frame is no longer around and the people I did speak to told me I am mistaken as no such animal ever existed. I've been wrong a few times in my life but this is not one of those times. there are to many memory points and quite a few people that I showed a left handed knife to, for me to be wrong. I'm hoping someone somewhere can shed some light on that knife …I mean ...I'm not crazy and they had to make more than one ... thanx for your time...
