You can buy a used one like i did for my putting green. I used it for my entire yard too but really i bought it for my green. I paid $2800 for a 2004 model about two years ago. Its a Procore but its not as wide. Mine is 32" wide. I put probably another $1500 into it to get it back to nice working order. Had to replace a lot of the hydraulic lines and pretty much every belt. New tines. I LOVE it but you gotta be kinda nuts like me to buy one. I use it quite a bit. I have hollow tines, solid tines, needle tines of different lengths and widths. Its awesome. Its slow though because it's not on a drum its hydraulic and straight up and down.

@Acaidia
@Acaidia Жыл бұрын
Not quite. Core aerators are much different. They physically remove dirt in order to properly aerate it. Aerators with spikes do make holes, but only by pushing dirt to the sides which leaves you with a hole surrounded by compacted soil. The entire goal when you aerate grass is to decrease compaction. Also core aeration is often done before overseeding and top dressing with compost/topsoil. They create larger holes and loosen the soil which allows the seeds/nutrients to get worked deeper into the soil. When you use a spike aerator then overseed or topdress you will have much less of a benefit because the soil surrounding the hole you made is compacted which thwarts the spreading of nutrients and inhibits grass growth. Also depending on how compacted the soil is the spikes can cause the soil around it to rise which creates thousands of little bumps which is not what you want on a golf course. Plus it would be absolutely ridiculous to try and step on every square inch of a golf course. There’s a good reason why every single golf course uses core aerators and not spike aerators.

I was told it’s good to leave the plugs out because they’re rich in nutrients on their bottom end and when they break apart over time they return those nutrients to the top of the soil
@thecrepesoul
@thecrepesoul Ай бұрын
That's only a beneficial process IF your soil is healthy and not compacted. If you're aerating to relieve compaction, it wouldn't make much sense to leave the compacted plugs there to break down because you're putting compacted soil back into the ground.

The core collecting part is like a $500 attachment so its not so bad. I bought a 2004 thats 32" wide two years ago. Paid $2800 for it then put $1500 into it getting it into shape. They are a million times cleaner and more effective than a drum style aerator. Not necessary on taller turf but incredible for low cut turf. Does fine on slopes for me. I dont have any crazy slope but certainly have some slope in my yard. If you're running a business doing yards its a huge no go though. Its slow. The tines are hydraulic straight up snd down so it cant go that fast. It takes me a good 30 minutes to do the 1200 square feet of my bentgrass green. Hours to do my 10k square foot front yard.
