I had been using the same cheap bulk edger blades for years and years for the business and never had problems. Suddenly I started getting the really bad vibrations. I replaced so many parts thinking it was my 5 year old edger. I even got so fed up I bought a new stihl edger and still had the same problem. I was so mad I didn’t catch that is was the blades. I spent so much time and money chasing the vibration when I could have spent 100 bucks on better blades… ugh!!! Live and learn..

Whuddup J! I remember a while back on one of the videos that you mentioned that you buy a box of blades and change them out everyday. I was saying to myself that was crazy and maybe you just wanted a fresh blade per day. I didn't have any idea, nor did you as evidenced in this video that they weren't up to par. Thanks for the heads-up! We're rocking and rolling with snow here in Jersey. Roll up so you can use a snowblower for a change -LMAO!

You can easily see straight away if they are warped or not by placing them on a perfectly level surface. Turn them over once or twice and if they are slightly bowed, you'll know whether they are straight or not!

I definitely need to try those blades. I wonder if it also has something to do with the Stihl Edger. I used to work for a company who’s power equipment was all Stihl and we did use those same blades and I remember my hand hurting so bad from the vibrations. I’ve had my echo edger now and I use those same cheap blades and have never had that vibration issue. Thank you for the information

How about your local dealer? They have both blades to choose from. The $34 versus $50, both are 50 blades each. I work solo again since I moved to a new area, still do about 10 lawns per day. The cheapest will last me a year. I haven't purchased the prime blade yet. When I had a crew of 2 helpers, the blades were practically daily versus weekly by myself. I can't say anything on the prime blades, but maybe I'll buy them to compare since no longer live near my previous dealer. On my new area I have several dealer, but they aren't the same as what I'm used to... Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 ❤

Hi Johnny i use an old edger blade on my trimmer as an ant bed grinder in my area starting at the top and shaving it off little by little until it is level to the ground i just keep it from digging too deep bracing the shaft on my knee like a lathe and watching the direction the dirt flies when it is vertical as if i were edging if it is too close to our rock walkway i'll stop about 2 inches from the rocks and finish with a shovel my blade is pretty thick at .147 thickness i do it a day before it rains cant tell where it was after.

I thought the softness of edger blades was to limit damage to sidewalks & edgers but be stronge enough to cut through soil & grass/weeds like string trimmers don't use very ht metal wire, but if you're very experienced I'm sure you can use a harder edger blade with more safety

Excellent video, and advice. Sometimes you do get what you pay for. Ever since I've had professional quality equipment, I've used the more expensive heat treated edger blades, so I've never had the issues you mention with the cheapo blades. And yes, I can also vouch for the durability of the heat treated blades. Even in the busy central FL summer I get a week's worth of use out of a blade, and longer in the winter, so a box of 50 lasts me more than a year. Definitely worth the investment, in my opinion. 👍
