Blast Corps is a 1997 action video game for the Nintendo 64 in which the player uses vehicles to destroy buildings in the path of a runaway nuclear missile carrier. In the game's 57 levels, the player solves puzzles by transferring between vehicles to move objects and bridge gaps. It was developed by Rare, published by Nintendo, and released in March 1997 in Japan and North America. A wider release followed at the end of that year.

When was the last time you played? There have been games that I used to think were IMPOSSIBLE, until I went and played them much later and found them to be so much easier than I remembered.

I’d agree with Glenn’s sentiment tho - the game’s controls were tricky to learn but once mastered it made formerly hairpulling manuevers second nature. I remember this being on the cover of NP and being pretty hyped for it. I think it was like the fourth game we got after Star Fox, Shadows of the Empire, and Kart.

I got this game at blockbuster once as a little kid. I wanted to rent a power rangers game and I got the power rangers case but this game was in it instead. I was soo angry at first, but when i got to play as the giant Robot I was starting to get into it. I never knew the name of this game up until now watching this video. so thank you cause the name of this game has been haunting me for years and now I know it's Blast Core. (lol I just wanted to tell my little story)

I don't even think the game designers intended you to 100% complete the game. After gathering enough platinum medals (¿maybe 80+%?) your rank becomes "you can stop now" indicating that you are done. But even getting to that stage is an achievement.

I thought the length of the single player was fine. You can definitely plow through only the main story pretty quickly if you want, but there is a quite a lot after that. The fact that you described the game as easy and some of the stuff as being an "option" kind of makes me wonder if you really played the entire game. You never mentioned things like the levels where you go to different planets or trying to get all the platinum medals, which kind of makes this one of the most difficult games that Rare has ever made.

This is one of the best N64 games and I definitely agree it was a hidden gem. Rumors of the N64 Classic coming out this year, if Nintendo is able to work out a deal with Microsoft and Rare, I'd love to see this game be included as part of the N64 Classic. I'm also sad that Rare never made a sequel to this game, and the premise was incredibly unique and the game was a ton of fun. This video brings back great memories for me when I was a teenager.

I'm so glad I was able to have this game growing years ago. I rememeber getting all platinum metals and going to moon, mercury and Mars. Addicting gameplay, good music and awesome graphics. I also rememeber me and friends seeing the early game screenshots in game mags back in '96 thinking the robots were the construction equipment transformed as part of the game expanding alternate gameplay. How cool would that have been, to transform on the fly to get the mission complete. Great review as always.

Rare replay really does this game justice, I am blown away with the clarity and crispness of the graphics. Before, there were some levels that I couldn't work out how to do because the pathway I needed to run down blended in with the background too much.

Glad I'm not alone in pronouncing it Blast "Corpse". Obviously I now know it's 'core' but my friends and I didn't know any better at the time and it's been Blast Corpse ever since. Think it might be a UK/Ireland thing actually. Everyone I know also calls it Blast Corpse while I imagine in the States it had always been Core since they would have heard the word growing up from being used in the term Marine Corps etc.

I remember itching to play it all release week, but all I had time to do was pick up the pre-order. I spent the first 18 or so hours of the weekend on a heroin-like binge though, and it wouldn't be the 1st. I loved how Rare dealt w/the N64's quirks like the ridiculously limited texture space...I think a lot of other devs knew the totality of what they'd pulled off. They used the intricacies of the tech as part of the artistic expression (another ex. of that: the original Parappa for PSX), and the result was a clean, funky visual vibe on a fuzzy CRT that my eyes just ate up. Add in great level design, insanely fun controls and physics, continuously fresh variety, and a wacked out soundtrack and it's one of my fav game experiences. Wait...less than 6 months later they pumped out Goldeneye? NUTS

I actually remember the music in the game the most fondly. Maybe because it sounded novel to me in the states.

My friend and I were obsessed with this game back in the day. We spent hours upon (frustrating) hours playing it until we eventually got platinum on all levels, which was very frustratingly difficult. I remember wondering what the hell the reward could have been for getting platinum on all levels... I thought it was going to give us the meaning of life or give us bank account information to an account with millions of dollars in it... or SOMETHING good along those lines. NOPE! All it said was “congrats! Thanks for playing!” .... :/

i've always wondered what this game was all about. Its one of those games that had a cool cover and i would always see it in the rental store and my friend even had it but i never ended up watching any gameplay or playing it. It definitely looks like i would like it though after watching this review.

Now that I own Rare Replay on XBOX ONE I'm going to give this game a try, I never had a Nintendo magazine subscription so I never knew when new games came out and only went off what was on the shelves and cover art.

I quite like this game, called Blast Dozer in Japan I do believe, don't have the cart on hand at the moment. It's really very fun, but it didn't last all that long. I still enjoy going back to it for a quick bit of fun from time to time though.

I loved this game. My mum and dad brought it for me for my birthday and at first I was thinking “oh no” because they didn’t have a clue about what games I liked or disliked. I wouldn’t have chosen it left to my self. But I was pleasantly surprised once I got into it and then came to love it and yes it’s very addictive lol
