I love these Blaze stories, and wish I could have met the man and heard him play in person. I didn't discover his music until after he was gone. It was love at first listen, and "The Oval Room" is in my top 3 favorites. I adopted a dog from the pound on his next to last day. No one wanted him because he was afraid of people and the main guy at the shelter insisted he was part coyote, so he was scheduled to be euthanized. I guess that idiot never saw a Blue Heeler cattle dog before. Poor dog was so scared he had to be carried to my car. When he was picked up by animal control, some jackhole had been shooting at him at a public park. I live off-grid on 20 acres of wilderness, down 3 miles of rough dirt road in a valley where I'm the last house on the road. Much different from a concrete dog kennel. I talked to him all the way home, as I watched his face change as the city disappeared and we got into the wildlands and saw his tail begin to wag. I was running out of things to say, so I sang to him. A little Jerry Jeff, some John Prine, and then Blaze after I realized that I am a lady with "two or three kids" (I had 13 goats at the time). I started singing "Clay Pigeons" and to my surprise his tail wagged like crazy and he started licking my arm and neck! Of course I named him "Blaze". 😂 Unfortunately, like Blaze, he died in a tragic, bizarre incident that he got himself into. I don't think I'm ever going to get over losing my buddy. He was by far the smartest, best dog I've ever known and I miss him so much it's a constant ache in my heart.

@ Lazy I Ranch. Thank you for sharing. Maybe Blaze left you too soon. But you did such a beautiful thing. You gave of yourself and gave Blaze chance to truly live. That dog was free until the end because of your love. No one can eve ask for more. Bless you.

Good job guys, I enjoyed hearing about the Supernatural Family Band, my favorite band here in Lubbock, back in the day when we smoked a lot of pot together. Tommy X was the dance master and Connie a sweetheart.

I love the Blaze Foley stories! I never would have heard of him or even Townes if it had not been for your channel. I have seen Willie many times and had no idea of these guys, now I am watching others discover them and do covers. KZfaq is a really cool thing. Thanks!

Hi Otis! I've lived in Austin since 1995 and I always look forward to your posts (especially crazy stories and anything Kenny Vaughan has to say). Is this an older interview? The last I heard Stanley was having some health problems, but if he's moved up near you that's good news. I always enjoyed his playing. I got to see the tail end of some local legends before they passed away, and they were memorable evenings for sure. Also, I think I saw you years ago at Club Deville in Austin (not sure though, I've been sober since 2003 so some of those mid-90s memories are not too sharp)?

His response to the Thundering Herd cassette tape shows just how astute the cat was even through the fog that was Blaze. He was a total trip and a human fireball, burning fast and hot like so many before him. I mourn the senseless loss of him.

Love it man!!! As a long time musician and a guy who can also say "ya'll" properly, I get it!! I subscribed and will be watching. By the way, I believe that "Skinny Dennis" was the bass player's name in the Guy Clark' song "L.A. Freeway". (Maybe that was a Captain Obvious observation) I am sure you knew that. Keep diggin'. Best from N. Florida. Bert (with an E).

i worked at ravens. when blaze would come in there it was always interesting. the place was owned by an asshole lawyer from westlake. when that guy got drunk i'd have to walk him to his car and on occasion have to tell him to put his gun away. tons of asshole politicians in the place. it was surreal when blaze would captivate them. i so identify with stan's story. right on the money.

I remember that guy. Had his own drunken playground at Ravens. I did a little daytime drinking at the inside bar. One day I met Mickey Mantle's son there. Hung out with Steve Fromholtz one day in there.

My friend was a camera man for Sacramento politicians. He told me they were good to the camera men that only filmed them in a good light/ not sleeping. He informed me the after parties were drug fueled, with lots of prostitutes.
