Just in case some people dont know: Le Petomane was a French performer who had the ability to make musical sounds by passing gas. He lived from 1855 to 1945 and gave concerts featuring this talent

Oh, the levels of humor went so deep. At the time, I thought Brooks was crude and unsophisticated, but my God, the man's humor has withstood the test of time (though it wouldn't withstand the test of woke culture).

Saw this on a double bill with monty pythons holy grail. Slid off the cinema seat laughing so much so many times. Stomach muscles ached for days afterwards. Brilliant movie.

I tried to like woody Allen but just couldn’t get into this humor. He just comes across as a bit pretentious. Just my opinion. Mel Brooks was more of a common man’s film maker.

@@dougyates7218 Well while Django Unchained isn't a comedy it does have a lot of comedic scenes, such as the proto-klansmen having issues seeing out of their hoods. It pokes *huge* fun at racists, with almost all of them being nigh unintelligible ignoramuses, while the blacks are all perfectly easy to understand. So it's a slightly more subtle humor. But the "n word" is said about 10,000 times in the movie, so yeah, not much of a PC favorite lol.

"This is 1874,...you'll be able to sue HER!'...Brooks intentionally put that line in as an act of revenge regarding actress, Heddy Lamar, who actually tried to sue Brooks over the misunderstanding of her name in his movie.

You have it out of order. He put it in there because it's a funny gag. She threatened to sue after the film became a success - Warner wanted to fight it, Brooks said pay her off because she was a great Hollywood actress and deserved it. They reached an amicable agreement.

As the son of Harvey Korman considering dad did 4 films with mel its astounding they didn't do more together. I myself preferred my father with Mel over Conway because I find breaking up highly unproffesssional .I didn't mind conway breaking up my father once in awhile but Tim did it more then he should have but again I'm biase.I think my father could prove in movies with Mel and other actors that he could be more then a straigthman for conway.My dad was a classically trained actor from Goodman theatre who could it all.For me personally Dads best work was with Carol and Mel but thats just me.

I love every single thing he said and did in Blazing Saddles and History of the World Part I, and also in Dracula: Dead and Loving It. I particularly love his laugh in Blazing Saddles - the way it builds from a giggle to a laugh and then a choke. and “That was a close one! Daddy loves Froggy. Froggy love Daddy? Ribbit… Ribbit”.

The only problem is that there isn't one best scene from this movie. Scene after scene, the entire thing is one of the funniest movies of all time. That being said, the bit at 2:29 "I didn't get a harumph out of that guy - you watch your ass" line always pleases.

I agree. I would add The Producers with Mostel, Wilder, Mars and Shawn. An absolute classic. Didn't care for the remake with Lane and Broderick. It made me cringe.

wilder said kahn was the best actress he had worked with ! her dietrich take is one of the great female performances ever caught on the silver screen... brooks got a tad too saucy with her at casting causing her to nearly decline the part........ a much missed woman

Mel Brooks loves inside jokes in his movies. There are lots of them in Blazing Saddles. For instance the Gov. William J. LePetomane was named after a famous professional French farter. Might have given him the idea for the bean scene at the beginning of the movie too.

Had the honor to be the fire keeper in a Lakota sweat lodge on the first day of Winter in Connecticut many years ago and I enjoyed every second of it and they said they did a great job!

In my humble opinion Brooks made the 3 greatest comedy films ever..all joint 1st,Blazing Saddles..Young Frankenstein and The Producers.

Hard to say this is the BEST scene in the movie because the whole thing is pure genius but, this is a truely great scene. I judge movies and scenes by their quoteability and this scene gets quoted by myself and others A LOT.

She evidently sued when she heard that her name was being (sort of) used for one of the characters before the movie even came out -- which you sorta have to know to understand the "this is 1874, you'll be able to sue HER" line, evidently added to the script after her lawsuit was filed.

I didnt know my grandfather very well I was still young but my dad used to tell me a story. After my grandad had his first stroke he was absolutely miserable, but my dad put this movie on for the both of them and he absolutely howled with laughter. Its always nice thinking that comedy is universal and helps alleviate some pain.

@@DMNDR Although I’m French and new the French word “pétomane”, I’d never heard of Joseph Pujol - aka The Flatulist. I love your pronunciation of his name as “poo hole”! Alas, that’s not at all how it’s pronounced. That said, the first syllable of Pujol is pronounced as the French verb “stinks” … so it’s still within the scatological realm of both your joke and of the entertainer’s talent!
