Note: The shading process is rather complicated, so it is recommended that you understand how the Cycles node system works.
Unfortunately, the project files are unavailable. For whatever reason, it seems that Dropbox deleted all of my files and, due to recent hard-drive problems, they're unrecoverable. I will make sure that this problem will not repeat and I will consider the possibility to manually recreate some of them. I hope you understand; thank you.
In this video, I will show you how to make a Blender particle simulation with particle textures (which animate certain variables over the lifetime of each particle), and also how the quite complicated shading process for it is achieved.
I apologize for the banding artifacts that you may encounter throughout the video (bands that occur in the presence of gradients). I followed KZfaq's recommended upload encoding settings, but they're still appearing. This might be due to bad compression or bad video processing. If you have any advice for high-quality rendering in After Effects or know about a good video compression software, I will strongly appreciate it if you leave a comment.

This is some next level shit! I cannot thank you enough for sharing your node setup. I’ve been playing with fluid sims for the last two weeks and it took me so long to find good foam tutorials (none really, they’re all just for the ocean shader) but I still needed a material for using particles as the foam. You have given me a ton of ideas to play with (if my bake ever finishes. 7 hours and counting 😳).

Great tutorial, is there a way to constrain the particles to remain inside a mesh object, and is it possible to do the reverse have the particles flow around a mesh object?

Great Tutorial! I seem to have a problem when compositing, because after following youre steps nothing changes.
@IagoMotaVFX
@IagoMotaVFX 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! By compositing, are you talking about the shading? Because that's definitely odd, after you connect the setup to the Material Output, everything should update. Now, if you're using child particles, then Cycles might not render them properly (up to 2.79, the "Particle Info" node doesn't work when child particles are used).
@felixk1293
@felixk1293 5 жыл бұрын
@@IagoMotaVFX No, the shading is fine. It's when you change the output of the render to look more blue.

Hello tnx for your tutorial i have a question how do you make your planes light effect particles in showing white color and make them invisible to render at the same time?
@IagoMotaVFX
@IagoMotaVFX 5 жыл бұрын
In order to make them invisible to the camera, but still visible to other objects, you can go to their object properties, open the "Cycles Settings" panel, open "Ray Visibility" and disable "Camera".

Could you explain what you're doing with the nodes when you first start with the node editor? I'm not completely understanding what it's purpose in the shader is, it seems really specific so I'm curious what it's even doing (talking about the math node that you set to multiply by "e" and all the color ramps and math nodes)
@IagoMotaVFX
@IagoMotaVFX 2 жыл бұрын
I was trying to come up with a sort of "custom" translucency set up, where I'd be able to control the color based on the density of the particle simulations. So that areas with less particles, and consequently less bouncing light, would be more blue; while areas with more particles would be more red in hue. I forgot most of how it's done, mostly because it's actually kind of obsolete now! :p These days, all that one needs to do is just add an Ambient Occlusion node, and use its color output on a Mix node or a Color Ramp to create basically the same result.

does this still work the same way on blender 2.83? my particle texture gradients look diffrent while i have the same values resulting in different effects. Or could this be due to slightly different scale/noise/turbulence settings? My shader is also just not as colorful not resulting in a gradient at all. The Mistakes might just be on me, just curious.

Thanks! The main elements here (particle gradients and shading) are still working fine for me, but maybe some settings were slightly modified over the past few versions. About the color, I think that might be related to the Filmic color management (which is much better than sRGB which I used here, so I don't recommend changing that).

You have 21 fps when previewing your particles while i have about 5 with a decent config (i have an i7 4790 and Nvidia GTX 970 both OC). How do you do that ? Either you have an absolutely crazy computer, or there are some magical settings in Blender that I would have missed?
@IagoMotaVFX
@IagoMotaVFX 7 жыл бұрын
I think it's because I have an 8 core processor, meaning that instead of a single core having to do all the processing, there are 8 of them, making it faster. Nowadays there are processors with up to 22 cores, but they're clearly very expensive.
@WaddleQwacker
@WaddleQwacker 7 жыл бұрын
but i have 8 cores too :'( edit : i figured it out : windows was doing some stupid background tasks without my permission. Windows 10 is cool... Sometimes i wonder why i don't listen to my friends that spend their time screaming out loud "if you use blender, you can run it on linux, so JUST DO IT ! no fucking OS bullshiterries, faster render times, and at least it runs smoothly, not like other 3D progams!!!!".

i tried to render that on a render farm (sheep it, if you know it). But certain frames have ben rendered partially purple... As if it was missing a texture file. I'm sad now.
