"There's no wrong way to fantasize." Damn it, Celestia! What have you done?! I'll be honest through, Celestia was amazing in the episode. I think she talked more in the season premiere than she did in the last two seasons combined. Hope this means we'll get more Celestia episodes. Maybe throw in some Luna as well?

Discord in this premiere did a similar thing to Twilght in the season 4 premiere and in his sickness episode. He likes messing with her a lot, but usually this 'antagonistic' action pushes her towards making a big decision or action, and she always gets something positive in it. So basically Discord is like a figurative big brother; he teases and messes with her, but he wants what is best for her. That kind of dynamic between them is what I see.

Celestia started out as a perfect god like being, but as the seasons went on, we started to learn that she had flaws, and a great, realistic personality. Well, as realistic as you can get with talking ponies.

As soon Starlight said her magic was controlled by her emotions, I immediately thought of Star.

For me the subplot of the second one was a comparison between friends who know how to work together and friends who don't. Especially with the side by side comparisons during it (RD saying 'nuts', then Trixie) directly connecting to two. It really just hammered in just how well the mane6 can work with each other, and how far Trixie and Starlight have to go when it comes to communication. They definitely spent far more time than was needed on that subplot for how little actually happens though. Great reactions as always!

Starlight: We don't use teleport spells on living things ever since that last Pony we used one on got genetically fused with a fly and went on a blood thirsty killing spree

The episode starts off with us celebrating Starlight, Discord, Thorax, and Trixie saving Equestria and defeating Chrysalis. Twilight needs to find something new to teach Starlight. Celestia gives her some advice, and Twilight decides to send her away to continue learning on her own. Twilight considers sending her to the Dragons or Changelings, in some hilarious fantasy sequences. They are some of my favorite scenes in the series. Just how ridiculous and over the top the ideas of how they could go wrong is hilarious. This is also our Celestia episode, and we got a really good flashback of her own fears when she sent Twilight away. She decides to have Starlight graduate, and Starlight is surprised. Discord wanted to turn Celestia's castle into cheese. Changeling GORE fest. Starlight however chooses to saty, in a really sweet ending. Amazing episode. Good jokes, good character moments, and some nice character development. A- This episode has a fun start with Trixie and Starlight. It's a cute and fun start. Spike, Starlight, and Trixie stay behind as the mane 6 go on a Friendship retreat. Starlight has become sort of a mentor for Trixie, teaching her magic. This is a fun idea with a ton of potential. however during a practice of teleportation spells, they make the map disappear. They try and find it while Starlight tries to keep her frustrations bottled up. Trixie just nonchalant attitude is hilarious, and the moral about you need to let someone know when you're angry. You can't just keep your emotions bottled up. The bottle she was storing her anger in breaks and infects Bulk, Granny, and the jewel shop pony. Trixie does not care, but she is called out on it. This lets there be good humor and emotion. The ending is so cute when they find it. The Mane 6 are also trapped in a puzzle room and work together to get out. Not much to say about it aside from this is just plain fun. We also get a song. It's alright. Not a great one, but decent. But nothing I would go listen to on loop. One of my favorites. Good moral. Good story. Good jokes and writing. I didn't expect this to be that great, but it is! I say it's better than Celestial Advice. A+

these episodes were great! im a big fan even though they werent epic and grand. also, i ship starlight and trixie SO HARD and all bottled up just kicked it into 12th gear.

Oh as to Starlight not being as far along. Well... duh. Twilight was a grad student, her 'graduation' was essentially a Masters Thesis on Friendship so awesome she grew wings and became a living paragon of Friendship itself. Starlight is just at the "Able to be a regular member of society without having Twilight looking over her shoulder all the time." level. Different goals for what 'graduating' would mean.

The fact that celestial got such good characterization in the 1st episode makes me so hopeful for this season. It was really enjoyable overall

*Celestial advice* They changed the color of the logo. And Starlight is smiling in the theme song. (not nervously this time) Rainbow Dash did a better impression of Rarity. That part with Ember and Starlight was great. Also, you called Sunburst "Starburst" at the beginning. Overall: I liked it. *All bottled up* I loved Trixie in this episode! I think I'm starting to ship Strixie now. I kind of relate to Startlight a bit in this episode. 32:57 Darn it, Trixie! 40:13 just the way Fluttershy said that was kind of hilarious. 40:47 yay! New song! Although, first listen, I thought it was a little unnecessary and was put in because 1:to fill in the time and 2: set up for that one joke. But listening to it again, I it's now stuck in my head, It's to catchy. And dose any one else think it sounds like a rainbow rocks songs a little pit? 42:49 dang it, Rainbow! that's my new catch phrase. Overall: I really love this episode And this season premiere in general. Because it reminds me of the littlest pet shop season premieres. I still miss that show. So this was nice.

Man I now love Celestia, at first I didn't really know her that well, she's the ruler of the land, weird past yadda yadda yadda. Now I just see how adorable she is! Even though that Mane 6 song was cheesy cheesy, I still think its really really, cutie cutie!

What I think might have been a bit misunderstood is that Starlight's graduation was not equivalent to Twilight's alicorn ascension. Rather it was the equivalent to Twilight being sent to Ponyville at the very start of the show. The fact Twilight used the term "learning friendship lessons" to define her progress rather than something like "initiative to learn friendship lessons" is probably the cause of that misconception. It was less saying that Starlight had learnt everything she needed to be a master of friendship and more that she's ready to tackle the friendship problems on her own without Twilight needing to manually decide each lesson she'll learn as Celestia did for Twilight. In this regard she is definitely at that stage and the second episode is proof of the concept basically. That's also probably one of the reasons why these two episodes were put together despite being less directly connected than any previous seasons' first two episodes. Hope this helps clarify things.

I love both of these episodes, though I prefer All Bottled Up. And I STILL ship StarBurst over StarTrix

The purpouse of main 6 in second episode was to show comparation. On one side you have well developed characters who have been in many adventures and their learned many lessons. On another side you have Starlight and Trixie who just became friends recently. Not only it adds to humor, but also shows that there is still a long way to go for Starlight. I think it is a good thing since well developed characters are often pushed to sidelines or do stuff off-screen, and it is kind of a waste.

I liked Discord in this one. It seemed like, for once, he wasn't just torturing Twilight for the fun of it, but is actually being considerate of Starlight for having helped him beat Chrysalis when it was something he couldn't have done on his own. He even went as far as to take the spotlight off of himself at his own medal ceremony and take no credit for the idea. (if he actually wanted Starlight and him to be room-mates, he probably would have actually hinted at that, I'm pretty sure it was meant as a joke. But, still, it shows he's developed a comradery with her to the point that he would joke about that.)

well... so far season 7 in already my favorite. truly loved both of these episodes. first episode was nice, we uselly start off with fighting so evil forces with rinbows, but this was a nice calm start. Celesta got some great screen time here, also glad Starlight is staying. second episode was just amazing, seeing Starlight and Trixie bond was great, its nice to know that Trixie will always be there for Starlight even if she freaks out on her. (I SHIP IT!!!! ) this was a great set of reactions RarityDash

I'm actually kind of with Twilight on the Changeling fantasy. They're just now reformed and, unlike Thorax, probably yet to actually learn anything about real friendship. One going rogue is a pretty sensible fear, at least in these beginning stages.

Trixie: The Starlight I love is passionate, lively, and yeah sometimes angry. Those are my favorite things about you. They're writing this like 'You bronies seem to like shipping. We're putting Trixie and Starlight in an episode alone together, let's fucking dance!'.

I liked the episodes very much. :-) I first hoped/thought that a new villain would be introduced, but it could have been much worse. The first episode when Celestia explained to Twilight that she had the her friends already on the radar, even before they all met, I was like: "Whaaaaat!?" I mean, that practically confirmed - like it was spoken out, if not directly - that Celestia already planned everything out from the very start for her beloved student. She KNEW from the very beginning which Ponies would be most suitable to represent one of the Elements of Harmony and planned accordingly. So the Summer Sun Celebration with her good luck response for Twilight a la "Go to Ponyville, look over the preparations. Oh and please, make some friends." was organized with the sole purpose to test the six - with luck and good hope - so that they would proof themselves worthy in order to become the Element Bearers in the first place. - Applejack was responsible for the food. - Rainbow Dash was responsible for the weather. - Rarity decoration. - Pinkie Pie for the party itself (maybe even welcoming committee for Twilight/the organizer from Canterlot) - Fluttershy for the music with her birds and Twilight had (totally NOT planned at all) to meet every single one of those five in order to check everything important for the 1000th Summer Sun Celebration... the entire point of the mane 6 plot was to not add anything and just be random. that whole section was ment as satire.

You always have fantastic points and well thought out critiques. Great thoughts all round. I'll admit, I was shocked at Trixie's behavior and felt that she was the one mostly in the wrong on the first viewing. It was off putting seeing Trixie being so insincere and yet having Starlight learning a lesson, not Trixie. However, after watching this episode a few times it's made more sense and Trixie seemed more oblivious to her insincerity then I thought. I really like this episode now. Also yah... way too many things that can be taken a different way in these two episodes. And they are shipping HARD with Trixie and Starlight. XD

i DVR both Ep and i like them and i am looking Forward to Ep#3. Celestia is good in this and How starlight Glimmer came a long way from a bad Pony to a good Pony with Friendship.

The mane six subplot besides showing their dynamic to newer viewers,was mostly there to contrasts with starlight´s,like we see how good they already are at friendship and that starlight still has trouble with it,I think that was pretty clear with how near the ending they cut to similar lines between the two plots with opposite meanings,that was one of my favorite parts Also,the song was really just a joke set up,but it may also be a subtle joke on itself,I mean with how self-aware a a lot of the humor was on this episode,I pretty sure that was just a self parody of most songs on the show,the lyrics felt a lot more cornier than usual on propose,and on Littleshy´s Livestream he bought a point that the visuals seemed very pmv inspired,and that every shot from it looks like it could be used as an wallpaper,that might not have been the intention of the song,but if it was I like it and respect it more just because of how meta that concept is. I think the reason it´s two unrelated episodes,is because of the criticism the crystaling got with how it didn't needed to be a two parter,and the two stories on it felt kind of unrelated,I feel like this started as a two parter,but them they decided to just make it two separate episodes,and the mane six plot was a last minute addition cause the second episode´s plot was not long enough for all the air time I guess
