The Master is Moriarty to The Doctor’s Sherlock

Eric putting it all together makes me so happy.

The Master is the Doctor's oldest friend and greatest enemy. He has encountered every incarnation since the Third Doctor, and was even the main antagonist in the 1996 movie. He's probably the Doctor's only intellectual equal in the universe at this point.

When Eric was talking about The Face of Boe here 14:40, I was almost certain he was about to figure out something... thank God he didn't - can't wait to see his reaction to Episode 13 now :)

They are going to freak when they find out what the Face of Bo really is.

What makes the running scene funnier is that, according to the Doctor Who Confidential episode for this episode, John Barrowman and David Tennant were actively trying to out run one another, while poor Freema *was just trying to keep up with either of them!*

There *is* actually an in-universe explanation for Gwen looking the same as Gwyneth, which basically boils down to "her traits were passed down through her bloodline and amplified by the presence of the Time Vortex", or something like that.

That was Derek Jacobi, a pretty famous actor...or so I thought. Anthony Ainley (the Master you saw in The Five Doctors) lost his battle with cancer back in 2004.

Well Eric, since Bad Wolf's power on Jack seem to also fix whatever killed him I think that if he died of starvation he would gain a little bit of energy upon revival. It's not like if he dies of a gunshot he has to come back, then immediately die again from the destroyed organs and bloodloss and keeps repeating it until it happens enough times for the wound to close.

This was such an action-packed episode. I remember losing my shit during that last 10 mins or so. Can't wait for the next two!

The Master hasn't actually aged, that segment with being found on a beach was actually a part of his fabricated background.

What a fantastic episode! Derek Jacobi is fantastic as YANA but that turn into The Master was one of the best TV moments in history! Phenomenal all round! I get chills everytime I watch the part where Yana pulls out the fob watch... ugh 😍 and I really hope you watch Genesis of the Daleks as the classic episode before Series 4.

With regards to the Doctor meeting the Face of Boe in his personal future. Remember what the Face of Boe says in season 2. "We shall meet again, Doctor, but for the third time, the last time." The Face of Boe only ever met the Doctor three time in his life, on Platform One, in the Hospital on New Earth, and in the underground passages of New New York, where he dies.

This reaction was great! I love this episode. The hype and Torchwood crossing over with the main show. The build up to the Master revelation is brilliant! :D

There are many actors who have appeared on Who or its spinoffs in more than one character. Peter Capaldi, the 12th Doctor, also played John Frobisher on Torchwood, and a Roman in an upcoming episode; that same upcoming Roman episode also features Karen Gillan, who the following season became a companion; which also happened with Frema, who plays Martha, who, before becoming a companion in series three, first appeared in the finale of series two as a different character. It’s a semi-frequent occurrence where they will cast an actor with one intention and then decide to bring them back for another.

Been waiting for this since you started watching this show!

The original Master was played by Roger Delgado. Jon Pertwee called him the bravest mane he'd ever known. He died stupidly: when on holiday he'd got a taxi back to his hotel, the driver was drunk and took the car off a cliff. What a waste.

Welcome to the Party!. The Master is MY favorite villian. He has been around since Doctor #3. Non-spoiler tidbit to give you an idea how studly he is. Normally Time Lords can have 13 lives and then die forever. When he first showed up he was already on his last life and has lied, killed, cheated and bargained time and again to get new regenerations. That's why he was "nice" to the 5 Doctors, to get a whole new set of regenerations from the Time Lords. And oh yea, #votesaxon

_"The Professor"_ was what Ace called the 7th Doctor. Ace was a rebellious teen and companion to the 7th Doctor, played by Silvester McCoy. You may know him as the wizard Radagast The Brown in The Hobbit. The 7th was the last of the original Who, when it was cancelled in 1989. He appeared briefly in the 1996 movie as well. And, his digital likeness was used in an episode of the 11th Doctor -- long story. ;-]

The first Master story was 'The Terror of the Autons' from the early seventies-a Third Doctor/Jon Pertwee story, worth a watch though it's the sequal to his first, regeneration story, 'Spearhead from Space'.

Story Time! I was introduced to Classis Who almost immediately after I became a new Who fan when I was a kid and that included a couple of stories with the Master so when I watched this I remember running around the living room cheering while my dad, whose been a fan since the 1st Doctor, was just stunned.

For those of you who'd like some backstory on The Master, spoilers below. Believe it or not, he and The Doctor used to be best friends. They grew up together in the Gallifreyen countryside and even attended school together. They had a third friend called The Rani, together making a sort of science fiction pseudo Harry/Ron/Hermione thing. Unfortunately The Master's moral compass and sanity eroded over time leading to the man we see today, and as for The Rani? She was a specialist in biology and loved experimenting...whether the participant was willing or not, if you catch my drift. She appeared sometimes in OldWho as an antagonist, although I don't think it ever said what happened to her during the Time War.

I think this is my favourite of your Doctor Who reactions! :)

It was a nice touch putting Jack on top of the Tardis. You can picture at 1:21 the Tardis is thinking "get it off get it off get it off!!" and running to the end of the universe like she's on fire. The guy is literally a living time-paradox.

I've been watching these videos and just... you can REALLY tell that Eric is into Doctor Who. Shane and Aaron have seen it before, so they don't react as much, but do contribute to conversation. And then Shane doesn't really react or say much at all. But then Eric is always exclaiming stuff and yelling and getting excited. Maybe this is how they always are, and I just haven't seen enough of their stuff to realise...

Great 3-part series finale. Martha goes through some s--- and kicks some serious ass. Can't wait for the next reaction episode!

it was me who told yous about toshiko being in doctor who and thanks for reading my comment :) and in torchwood they messed up the tardis did land in torchwood building cause one min jack was their and the next he was gone, and he did not use the front door cause owen and the rest of them came in the front door, and did not see jack, i just watched ep 1 of season 2 ep 1 of torchwood, yous are just one ep behind me :) and yous guys are awesome thank you for doing this :)

Doctor Who as a family show wasn't allowed to explicitly cross over with Torchwood given its adult content, but was able to crossover with the Sarah Jane Adventures as that was more of a kids show.

Imagine if the title sequence just had Jack hanging onto the TARDIS.

Actor Derek Jacobi has since returned to the role he played in this episode in the Doctor Who audio adventures, therefore the "Found with the fob watch as a child" is a false memory.
