In this video, artist Giles Whitehead takes you on a journey back in time to the year 1900 to Blists Hill Victorian Town in Shropshire. During the day he visits the different shops and industries found within this world heritage site. Featuring iron casting at the foundry, the Trevithick steam engine and The Big Horse song with Guy Rowland at The New Inn.

Experience a day in Victorian times in a FUN way. Laughing. Intonation is everything. Hard to do in text. I use CAPS but it’s not very nuanced. I suppose I could use emogis but then I’d be a traitor to my generational category. So great that you two take your kids to these things.

Thanks Deb! We have been going to Blists Hill even before the kids. The fact that we have kept going back says something. Just being able to go into the old shops and buildings is so interesting and the policeman and pianist, Guy Roland is brilliant. He brings the place to life, so witty and funny!

The Rural Policeman was assigned to a village and a special house was provided for Lodging. They tended to integrate better within the community and became trusted and popular.

We went here a few weeks back. It’s such a lovely place. We enjoyed watching this video. 🍻

@@gileswhiteheadartist Before the pandemic I was in the squatters cottage or the toll house. Bet when I go back I'm gonna be in the cottage between the sweet shop and fish and chip shop

Fame at last! I love seeing everyone dressed up as really adds to the experience for visitors. Do you supply your own costume or do they provide them?

The Lifestyle of the Victorian Policeman was particularly harsh and the pay was poor, about the same as a Farm Labourer, well through it was better in some City Forces.
