Yeah you read that right. Blitzcrank top lane has a 100% winrate in professional league of legends. This is one of the coolest, strangest, most off meta build of all the off-meta builds, and yet pros in the EU LCS (now LEC) and GPL (now PCS) have managed to keep a 100% winrate with blitz. It's an insane story and one of my personal favorite off meta best moments in league of legends history. This is the story of when blitzcrank top lane seemed almost OP in pro league of legends.

Any chance you could do a video on the history of "non meta" strategies that became popular in competitive. The lane swap thing you spoke of reminded me of that, but there's been a lot of stuff like funnel comps, mage bot, etc.

1:50 the funny part is, i find my self saying "god, why the hell was udyr ever added to the game? can we please remove or nerf movement speed champions!!!" more than i say that about samira. not counting the movement speed part of course lol. even thought she is un ironically 5x more broken than udyr is.

so true back in the day his content didn't really seem to have as much passion behind it then he does nowadays. also remember gbay was one of the first ppl to start a "road to x" series on yt and while that diea blasted off watching him do it kinda felt like he was forcing himself to do it and at the time it was really interesting how he seemed to do something he didn't particularly enjoy. either way i'm just glad that now he's making stuf he definitely enjoys seems like journalism truly is his passion

@@ImAnBoosterBaby There are aggressive supports in LoL today but when was the last time you saw an ADC solo lane the entirety of laning phase? It's been a really long time since that's been a meta strat.

They won't do it because the changes to dragons and how the maps change (erth drake, fire drake) they had to redraw all the snow on the new maps and so it won't be ready this year

Agreed. i usually watch them before falling asleep. So for me this is perfect. The others I usually watch in 2-3 sittings, which is also fine, but I don't know what it does for the algorithm

Gbay should be more dedicated videos like this by tryharding 16 hours a day in solo que, reaching high challenger, getting on a pro team after years of grinding and then running it down top lane with blitz in the worlds finals.

I remember that 2013 game. I remember watching it a few times because I found it to be one of the absolute coolest team comps ever. Playing around a Kataina with two disrupting supports, an ADC that can care for himself (Ezeeal) and an J4 jungle to lock people in so Kata can kill them and have a reliable front line. To this day it's one of my favorite games ever played in the professional league. Glad to see it again 😊 Great video Mr. Gbay!

it's crazy to see all this cause when i started playing in s3, i did this exact strategy cause it was more fun to 2v1 and still win against people mispositioning XDD instead of going top tho, i would stay bot alone while having 2 people top lane. Amazing doc gbay

Really enjoyed this shorter and more "casual" vid gbay. I enjoy all your videos of course, but I will say I originally followed you way back when you made your daily vids and this reminded me of those in all the best ways. It is kind of a happy medium between your long, deeply researched, professional documentaries and your short, funny, casual gameplay videos and I, for one, hope you make more of these in between your long documentaries from now on. Great video as always! As a support main, I think roaming supports are much more prevalent today than what you said in the video, though it does depend on the player. Best example I can think of is Damwon's Beryl, especially with his signature pick, Pantheon. With Ghost being a self-sufficient ADC, Beryl no longer needed to baby sit bot lane so he can roam and impact the solo lanes.

Great video chief. As a blitzcrank main, this was particularly interesting to learn about. I wonder how it would look with current runes and items though. Would have been nice if you looked into how people are playing it in SoloQ rn at a high level if anyone is.

I play blitz top from time to time, like today for example. He was made for top when he first came out, and he never really got a full rework to push him into support. You have to understand that he has 3 different effects that empower his autoattacks, thats why he can potentially work as a AD bruiser for top.

There was, up until recently, a toplane blitzcrank OTP known as Prim0. He reached high diamond in EUW going AD/Tank blitzcrank. Sadly he couldn't play the game much during 2020.

17:05 I think that the GPL 2014 winter game is not actually blitz jungle, he has 17 cs, maybe it's a blitz supporting jungle while the Ezreal (listed as support) actually did the farming?

I think blitz could be a viable support in pro play with how prominent the lvl 4 roams top or mid is in proplay, especially if ezreal becomes popular
