Been doing those pushups for the past 11 years of my martial arts training. Dunno the origin of em. I do em mixed in with finger and thumb pushups and knuckle pushups. Good for conditioning on the wrists (essential for anyone in martial arts that throws a punch ;D). Reverse wrist pushups are best done closer together to start with and eventually bring hands further apart (putting more stress on the wrists as you get more proficient).
