This album is great! I had the vinyl back in the 70's, and played it into the ground. This was always one of my favorite tracks. So classy, ballsy, soulful. A powerhouse. I hear strains of Motown, gospel, soul, Chicago - wonderful. Berry Gordy one of the composers, I never knew that - no wonder.

Oh yeahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! They were tremendous, contemporaries of Chicago and they focused on the horns a bit more, DC Thomas was a great vocalist originally from Canada. Check out Hi De Ho, Lucretia MacEvil and Go Down Gamblin!

Great story abut DC Thomas, from when he was still in Toronto, he was playing a gig in a prison when he realized all the guys in the front row were regulars at the bar he usually performed at. Part of a documentary about the early days of rock music in Canada.

Bobby Colomby is a vastly underrated drummer. If the production sounds similar to Chicago could be because these 2 band's had the same producer at the time.

I don’t know about all of that, but the vocals are insanely good. I suspect you’re not a singer, but that range and control was impressive.

I hope you would consider listening to something from their first album called Child Is Father To The Man where Al Kooper was main vocalist. Al has something in common with Syd Barrett in that he formed their band but was ousted after first album. Reasons were different. But in both cases, you can detect differences in the sound. I Can't Quit Her and I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know are the best known songs from that album.

What a great song. David Clayton Thomas had such a versatile voice, clean but powerful when necessary. And When I Die might be their most melancholy yet uplifting hit song and also the big hit Spinning Wheel.

One of their biggest and best hits . Played all over every radio station in NYC back in the early 1970’s. Such a great band musically, lyrically, and vocally with David Clayton Thomas being a great frontman! Because of the musicianship this goes way beyond a pop song, it is truly an all time classic. Yes it does have that CHICAGO feel to it. Now try a fantastic horn section band with another great frontman in Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes. Try reacting to Love on the wrongside of Town and talk to Me.

These guys paved the way for other groups like Chicago (T.A.) and the Sons Of Champlin, where the horn sections were actual permanent members of the band. This was produced by the same person (James Guercio) who produced many Chicago albums.

This is sort of BS&T's signature song, and the one most remember them for. To me, these guys were the first band to successfully cross over from the soul and smooth jazz of the mid 60's to the rock/R&B of the late 60's. You can easily hear where Chicago got most of their ideas from.

The first Blood Sweat and Tears album with Al Cooper is something worth checking out. Two songs off that album I Can't Quit Her and I Love You More Than You Will Ever Know are stone classics. May I also recommend another great "horn band" from that era The Electric Flag with Michael Bloomfield and Buddy Miles. Groovin' is Easy and Another Country off that album are great. Then there's Sons of Champlin and their underground hit 1982 -A. You hear a lot about Chicago and Blood Sweat and Tears, but there were a lot of second tier horn bands that were really really great.

Such a fine album! BS&T used jazz elements and combined it with a great voice. Their first was a bit more experimental, but had a wonderful 'lounge jazz' version of Harry Nilsson's 'Without Her'.

Nice arrangement. The horns are great. NYC session musicians from both the rock and jazz worlds. Their first album (The Child is Father to the Man) was their peak. One of the greatest albums of the 1960's. This was their second-best album, and each subsequent album was a little less special until they ended up sounding like a Vegas lounge act.

Iirc, this song hit when bubblegum music was at its peak. This stuff was for old mature 20 somethings due to the horns. Easy listening is a correct observation as my bubblegum oriented ears gave it a chance along with groups like, Dawn. The song's words convinced me to apply it to my weekly elementary school crush. Tragic, that.

This was a well worn tune on the radio back in the day. I thought it was a good tune. Not a big fan of Blood Sweat & Tears. I knew they had other songs that charted. I had to look it up. Says, 'And When I Die' charted #2 in the US.

Too many horns and a repetetive un hook numb the dynamic effect on this. Had I heard it as a ten year old I would have loved it maybe - but it's too repetitive for me now, and besides I was brought up later with The Cough Style Council to appreciate angry social comment with an easy listening vibe. I don't know why, I should love this but it leaves me Cold. I blame hearing Return of the Giant Hogweed at 10 years old. Diolch, glad I heard it.
