An emergency run on blues and twos taking urgent blood samples from Belfast's Mater Hospital to the Kelvin lab at RVH for analysis. Return run on blues and twos involves filtering through heavy traffic on the Westlink

I don't know much about the use of blood bikes, but was anybody else confused as to why the journey back to base was on blues?

I was scrolling the comments wondering the same thing!

@Nathan Lynch he returned empty sample containers to his base, there were 4 other bikes at base so not an emergency. He also turned lights and siren off well before he got back to his base.

He posted in other videos that they are required to do this to be available as quick as possible for other pick ups etc. Also just because their are other bikes at base doesn’t mean the riders are available at the time. What does concern me is when he switches his lights and siren off but still over takes in hatched areas and on zebra crossing as that is illegal without lights and siren.

@@christianansell3170 don't think that's a safe thing to do, that's putting people at risk for no reason. And using the reason I need to get back to base just in case another emergency transport comes in. I don't know about the laws over there hopefully the law allows it but here in the United States if we had something like that and something happened on the way back to base layers would have a field day. In the US we can't use lights and sirens unless on a emergency call and going back to base doesn't count.

I agree with Steven its beneficial to change the siren tone and on my latest Emergency Driving Assessment I was reminded of this by my instructor but these guys and girls do save us being used and all are volunteers so lets not be too hard on them . Amb 4269

Depends if the bike was fitted with more than one tone.
@AntonyLoveless3 жыл бұрын
Our bikes are former PSNI bikes and come with only one tone. Newer, factory-built police bikes, have several, but we don’t have funding for those, so we work with what we’ve got.

Nice that colleague stopped the traffic to ease your passage out.

pretty sure this is misuse of the blues, i've seen a couple of these vids idk how the use of the blue was really needed for any part of this journey as they was just patient detail papers, especially the journey back these bikes are supposed to be used for the purpose of delivering live saving blood, the blues are only legally allowed to be use if deemed to be needed for emergency, also rushing into traffic on blues like that will get this guy killed or injured (treat the red light as a give way sign NOT ignore it)
@AntonyLoveless3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, but since you neither know the rules that NI Blood Bikes operate under, nor what we carry, we’ll just carry on behaving according to the rules that govern us.
@duncogaming18543 жыл бұрын
@@AntonyLoveless so the UK LAW doesnt apply as most of what i said was pulled from that mostly from the ambulance section for code 3, which i think you guys would follow... your company "Rules" dont trump the UK law sorry they just dont
@AntonyLoveless3 жыл бұрын
@@duncogaming1854 Northern Ireland has its own legislation governing almost every aspect of daily life, and lots of UK laws do not apply to NI. There’s no NHS in NI, either, the PSNI isn’t like any other UK police force, and aside from the police, we’re the only organisation using marked bikes with blues and twos (there are no paramedic bikes here, nor fire and rescue either). There are countless aspects where NI laws trump UK law (in NI, the handgun ban doesn’t apply, for example).

I didn't think any of the exemptions under the Road Traffic Act actually applied to Blood Bikes.....hence the use of blues & twos, speeding and crossing red lights is illegal? If I'm wrong, I stand to be corrected, but I don't think I am...
@joshroz74234 жыл бұрын
The Pangolin | You are very very wrong! As of 2018 Blood Riders have been classified as ambulance type vehicles and as long as they have the training to use them they are fully allowed to use lights and sirens. Mainly because they are delivering a life changing/saving service that the NHS depends on as bikes are not only the fastest method of transport for important goods but without them the NHS would need to depend on third party business that would charge them for the free service the blood riders provide.

Cowboy operation, no siren changes at hazards, junctions and undertaking well, I was never taught that on my police driving courses!!

His bike is only fitted with a wail as well I think. Some blood biker organisations really don't have the money to spend
