So we have finished the canola and now we need to get cleaned out and ready for the Oats - which we want to sell into the "gluten free" market. So we have to be ultra clean!

Good to see how dedicated you are to not just profit, but caring for people's health in the end product. Fantastic attention to detail. In my experience, the best way to blow combines, balers, etc., out is the big ol' hydrovane compressors for windy- picks, with a 1" hose, lance, and ear muffs 😎👍 Works a treat.

I think a high power backpack leaf blower would do a quicker job, then you have the wand for the tighter areas. Compressed air is great for tight areas but to blow out dust & debris from a large area you want a 200+ mph stream of air. Can’t hurt to try it.

Yes! I'm really surprised they aren't using a backpack blower. I use mine to blow the combine off every night when I'm done for the day. It really helps to have a clean combine to check over in the morning and fire prevention. It only takes a minute or two with a good backpack blower. I have a Stihl BR600 which was the biggest at the time of purchase but now they have bigger ones.

Hey Mike at least you're not doing what my local farm did here in the UK. Last year at the end of harvest they washed the combine down inside and out and then put it into storage. They're blown it down and decided it was dirty and so used hoses inside and out. Unfortunately, they didn't then dry it down. The water got into multiple electrical systems and connectors/boxes and the corrosion and moisture caused havoc this years harvest - the header would wobble left and right by itself and so fields are grooved and like waves on a lake. Many sensors failed to work and cameras would go on and off at random. In the end a fire started and was only caught because a trailer was following the harvester. Harvest took twice as long. Farm is trying to sell the harvester for a new one..

Somebody needs to get some decent dust masks when doing this type of cleaning. I recently spent over 3 hours blowing out a baler at season's end going through 4 masks that ended up EXTREMELY DIRTY followed by a much needed 30 minute shower. Considering the price for any new Combine, the additional cost for maintenances and service, one more combine to fuel, grease, oil (hydraulic, engine, transmission?). Yeah, that ain't gonna work for only one or few fields of special requests on the implement. Sure if half of the company grows the gluten-free crops and such stuff. So for Mike Mitchell here, spending the amount of hours cleaning one Combine would sure be much easier financially. Also, if he so decided to have one more new or used combine. He have to make sure that too need to be running and making profit. So that means he technically has to grow more gluten-free crops so that second combine could make some hours and profit. It's not always that easy in real life than what it is in your mind. I know this personally, so nothing to be ashamed of. I just explaining the top of a iceberg on the paperwork side of owning implements.

@@wssides Yep. I wonder how we survived before the gluten free diet. If you ever heard of the placebo effect you understand what goes on. It's just like the lactose intolerant crowd. How long ago was it that the food pyramid was the way to do it. It's called don't eat so much and act like it is the glutens fault. 20 years from now it can change to something else. I don't deny there are people affected by gluten, but I am willing to bet 80% or more like to say it, but have no clue if they are or aren't. Just seems like another scam to screw us farmers out of another penny or 10. Like falling numbers. Sure I always want to know what the pizza place falling number is on their dough because by god it doesn't seem as doughy as it should. Do we know it's gluten? Or is it blamed on gluten to distract you from the real reasons for their Illness. So spare me the obviousness of your conclusions. Care as much as you want but I don't think we should be catering to a very small percentage of the world population. If you were starving I bet that wheat would seem pretty damn good.
