Oceans and seas cover more than two-thirds of our planet's surface. They are home to diverse ecosystems and spectacular plants and animals. Healthy oceans contribute to poverty reduction and economic development by providing jobs, food, minerals, international trade routes and transport, and cultural connections. The Blue Economy offers great opportunities for countries in the region to leverage their ocean resources and promote innovation, sustainable finance, nature-based solutions, and blue carbon sequestration.
