Having experience some issues with booting I thought I would try this.

Does this approach result in me being able to program my STM32F103C8xx "Bluepill" with STM32CubeIDE and genuine ST-Link V2 or is it only for Arduino type projects? I have three of these ST-Link V2 clones and not one of them works with STM32CubeIDE or STM32CubeProgrammer.

I 've seen, on Cube you can define in Debug a procedure to flash the device to use the same program the bootloader / arduino package offers. Run > Debug Configuration > C++ Application > Main > C++ Application > [command to flash] [arguments]

I'll put it on the list to be looked at but I'm currently snowed under with requests and productions. Sorry.

Yep - I get the same result. Arduino fails to upload and it is looking for a com port. In my case the bootloader itself seems to be the problem as on completion of the install via STM32 programmer, the green LED (PC13) flashes very fast continuously (almost looks like it is continually lit fast). Stuck with using the STLink V2.

same bud but windows throws an error about unrecognized usb device edit: i got it working

Same here but on MacOS. I get "Failed uploading: no upload port provided" and the only available port is Bluetooth-incoming-port. UPDATE: I managed it to work and MacOS/Arduino IDE see the virtual USB.
