Model Railways and the Bluebell Railway (England) in the same place, just too good to miss. The models were well presented covering the whole range from small fun layouts where anything goes to excellent re-creations of real scenes set in the past such as the excellent Pulborough P4 layout.
A beautifully restored rake of vintage carriages was in use along with some of the smaller engines not normally used in peak periods when the trains are longer and heavier. Both the Bluebell volunteers and exhibitors were friendly and helpful making this a very good day out. I was unable to list all the layouts, if you recognise one I have missed, please let me know so that I can mention it in this description.

Hi, Budget Model railways shows that the hobby doesn't have to be expensive and some of the tips offered for making the scenery are useful.

Thank you, I enjoyed meeting you. I always keep an eye out to see what new ideas you come up with to achieve a good result whilst keep the price to a sensible level. Your layout was fun and that is important for younger modelers, both from a budget angle and having a working railway to play with in a short timescale.

Hi, I think this is the only exhibition I have attended where both model and real trains can be seen side by side. It makes a very interesting comparison.

Hi Nick, sorry I've taken a few days to answer, I've just returned from an amazing short break to film some of the narrow gauge railways in North Wales. It's nice to know you enjoyed watching this video, it was taken with a Sony Handycam FDR AX-53. If you click on the "about" tab on my channel page, I list all the cameras and software I use.

Seriously though, Tim, to really get a good shot of these models, try getting in close with a telephoto shot, enough to hide anyone walking about behind them. If there's a painted sky backdrop, so much the better for the appearance of realism. About 5 min., 40 secs, exactly what I suggested! Makes it look almost real, doesn't it?

Photographing model railways can be difficult as there are usually a lot of people watching, but from time to time a gap opens up offering the opportunity to capture the action. I zoom in where I can and some of the results can be very rewarding.

Model layouts look like diorama style. Very different to German layout style. - Heinz

Hello Heinz, exhibition layouts tend to be dioramas with fiddle yards at each end because they are easier to transport in pieces, where as fixed layouts can be much bigger with more of a 3D profile.

Some were a bit quick, but the old Hornby stuff didn't like running slowly.

Ours were running pretty slow but look faster on film? Perhaps it's tech issue, any slower and ours would have stalled on the tight curves.

Hi Neil, one of my friends is moving to Longreach, just looked up the rail journey from Brisbane - 25 hrs 10 mins on the train. Planning on doing that trip next time I visit Oz.
