About Blur:
Blur were formed in 1989 by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree and signed with Food/EMI the same year. Announcing their arrival with debut album Leisure in 1991, Blur continued to revolutionise the sound of English popular music with second release Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993). Five successive UK #1 albums followed - with Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995) helping to propel the band to mass popularity in the UK and beyond. The eponymous Blur was released in 1997 and seventh album Think Tank (2003) was Blur’s first as a three-piece after the temporary departure of founding guitarist Graham Coxon.
Twenty one years after the release of their debut album, 2012 saw Blur 21: The Box, the band's body of work compiled and gathered together into one box. Their most recent release as a four-piece, the critically acclaimed chart-topping album The Magic Whip (2015), started life in Hong Kong when the band had an unexpected break in touring in May 2013.

It's strange for me to hear that considering blur was a soundtrack to my youth (and The Prodigy) The music back then was like no other but I guess as times roll on the majority of people forget just how many great so gs were written and eventually get re discovered by the next generations. Both bands have an amazing back catalogue to discover. Even for me hearing hidden gems that I haven't hear for a while make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, bring a smile to my face or a tear to my eye. My god, thank god for music 💕

I remember when the Modern Life IS Rubbish album came out I stole it on cassette from Sydenham Library and then I used to bunk off Sixth Form walking around the streets of South London listening to it on my Aiwa personal stereo. You'd hear this song and you just knew that this and songs like The Drowners and Animal Nitrate by Suede were the start of something that was going to be big, very big. For me, this is where the '90s *really* started.

For Tomorrow lyrics : He's a twentieth century boy With his hands on the rails Trying not to be sick again And holding on for tomorrow London ice cracks on a seamless line He's hanging on for dear life And so we hold each other tightly And hold on for tomorrow Singing la, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la Holding on for tomorrow She's a twentieth century girl With her hands on the wheel Trying not to make you sick again Seeing what she can borrow London's so nice back in your seamless rhymes But we're lost on the West way So we hold each other tightly And we can wait until tomorrow Singing la, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la Holding on for tomorrow We're trying not to be sick again And holding on for tomorrow She's a twentieth century girl Holding on for dear life And so we hold each other tightly And hold on for tomorrow Singing la, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la Holding on for tomorrow Jim stops and gets out of the car Goes to a house in Emperor's Gate Through the door and to his room, and then he puts the TV on Turns it off and makes some tea Says modern life is rubbish I'm holding on for tomorrow Then Susan comes into the room She's a naughty girl with a lovely smile Says, 'let's take a drive to Primrose Hill It's windy there, and the view's so nice.' London ice can freeze your toes, like anyone, I suppose You're holding on for tomorrow

muser333 it depends how old you are. I’m 17 and I don’t think any of my friends have heard the name blur. Yet they know their biggest hits. Oasis are way too overhyped for what they are. I think they are great but blur surely should be just as well known? But then again watch song 2 from T in the park. I feel like they could pull that off again

People who were teenagers when this song came out, I have a question for you. When I listen to this song I feel a sort of nostalgia, but I wasn't even born then. I can imagine you feel nostalgic as well when you hear this song today. I was wondering what you felt when you first heard this song when it came out. Did it already have a nostagic feeling to it because of how it sounds? Did you expect to feel nostalgia for that time? I think about this a lot because I am now 18 and I don't feel like I'm making memories that will feel good when I'm 40. I can't imagine me in 30 years being nostalgic about 2020.Same with the music, the songs that will be remembered as "the 2010's classics" don't mean a lot to me and they just remind me of the fact that I never really fit in with the rest of my generation. I wonder if that is a universal feeling of all times or if it is a modern thing or perhaps just me.
@c.n9219
@c.n9219 3 жыл бұрын
Believe me, you will have it. I was 18 10 years ago and I hated many of the "modern" tunes. I felt my life was boring and common too. Now everytime I heard these songs I feel something... like I miss them even the songs I hated, but specially songs like this. Sorry for my bad english, but I hope you could understand what I try to say you. Human being is prone to nostalgia, even to the worst situations.

Interesting question and something I have thought about before. I do remember hearing this for the first time, on the radio, as a young teenager, and loving it at the time. I don't think I felt 'nostalgic', but then I don't think I felt nostalgic about anything at all until I was much older. You could be right that there is something about the music and lyrics that has that sort of feeling, the la la las and the melancholic sound, but also in my 20s I found that I felt nostalgic about things from long before I was born - 60s and 70s photos for instance. And I can feel nostalgic now remembering when I heard Beatles' songs for the first time in my teens. There's no way to gauge now what you will feel nostalgic about in the future, I think that's the essence of it, that it is unreachable and unobtainable, and it's not until something is a long time behind you that it gains that nostalgic haze. You could maybe write a diary? ..when you feel like it, if you can do so without overthinking it and causing more stress. I wish I had done, now, but then again if you focus too much on viewing today from a theoretical future self you might just miss it! Focus on the now. Even if 'the now' is listening to old music - that's ok. All the best!

I was 18 when this song came out and I remember being quite annoyed that I really liked it. Blur. Bloody Blur. They were the also rans in the shoegaze scene. When Parklife came out I was really annoyed because they had just nailed it. The zeitgeist, the mood, the everything. It was so of it's time. It was so perfect, the tunes and the graphics, and just amazing for the times. I loved it and hated it at the same time.

There is something both beautiful and melancholy about this song, maybe more so if you grew up in London at this time. Let's take a drive to Primrose Hill, it's windy there - but the view's so nice

LYRICS He's a twentieth century boy With his hands on the rails Trying not to be sick again And holding on for tomorrow London ice cracks on a seamless line He's hanging on for dear life And so we hold each other tightly And hold on for tomorrow Singing la, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la Holding on for tomorrow She's a twentieth century girl With her hands on the wheel Trying not to make you sick again Seeing what she can borrow London's so nice back in your seamless rhymes But we're lost on the West way So we hold each other tightly And we can wait until tomorrow Singing la, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la Holding on for tomorrow We're trying not to be sick again And holding on for tomorrow She's a twentieth century girl Holding on for dear life And so we hold each other tightly And hold on for tomorrow Singing la, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la La, la la l-la, la, la la, l-la l-la la-la-la Holding on for tomorrow Jim stops and gets out of the car Goes to a house in Emperor's Gate Through the door and to his room, and then he puts the TV on Turns it off and makes some tea Says modern life is rubbish I'm holding on for tomorrow Then Susan comes into the room She's a naughty girl with a lovely smile Says, 'let's take a drive to Primrose Hill It's windy there, and the view's so nice.' London ice can freeze your toes, like anyone, I suppose You're holding on for tomorrow

I wasn't born in the wrong generation I was born in the right family who basically made my life take place in the nineties (with exceptions to some modern things ) but I read somewhere that the 90s was a mindset and we can all still go back and be there if we want we just have to think like they would back then idk how to explain but I get the philosophy

George Scott nowadays everything has to be perfect. We go to perfect grocery stores and perfect automated self checkouts and need perfect resumes and all of the music has to be perfect or else it can’t get on the charts. I think that’s the 90s mindset, that you didn’t have to be perfect. Maybe it’s a mindset more of us should take

I adore Blur. They did many, but this was their finest Album. I used to sit and listen to all their stuff on tapes on my Sony Walkman (remember them) in the mid 90's and was fascinated by their fantastic portrayals of English life and scenery. This is a Low and this are utter masterpieces in those regards.
