In this video we show you how to swap injectors on a BMW M57 Diesel motor. This example is a North American spec motor with piezo injectors.

*Quick tip* when removing the return clips hold the black tab down with your thumb, and use a small flathead vertical ( | ) and slide the flathead up it comes out so easily

Very Nice Video Thank you I am in the middle of fixing my 2009 x5 e70 35d and was wondering if and how you cleaned the injector housing in the head itself. In other words did you reseat the hole in the head before you stuck the new injector in..? 😎

There are no trim codes like an a gasoline car. But there are individual codes for each injector. We use ISTA-d to program new codes. You can also use Protool app for Android, a little easier to use but has a cost to purchase.

You can do this without removing the manifold completely. I used a chisel and hammer to loosen and tighten the nut for line under manifold. This was for #6 cyl I was able to loosen the manifold nuts and bolts and lift up on manifold enough to slide the fuel line out and the injector too. There was a clamp i loosened on the throttle body as well. I used a slide hammer but it came put so easy, if I were to do it again I would try to pry it up some how With a prybar instead. That way I wouldn’t have to take off the plastic covers and cowl and wiper assembly.

For the short amount of time it takes to remove the manifold it’s safer and much easier to remove and have a clean working space. For #6 cowl and wiper assembly does not need to come out, unless you want to do extra work.

Yes, that’s right I’m not taking plastic out next time. I can do this job in like 15 minutes now if I don’t take cowl or the manifold off now. Pays 2.5 Hrs.. don’t get me wrong I’ve taken my fair share manifold off, but if I had to take the manifold off for every oil cooler job for instance, I wouldn’t fix enough cars in the day.

The copper washers have to be heated first (with a lighter), then placed in cold water that way they will lay down in the injector bed better. Also I clean the beds before placing injectors

Interesting about the washers. Never heard that not have we seen any oem including bmw prescribe that. But an interesting concept. We also clean the injector bores.

@@alphadevyat I believe it is a must for an old vehicle because the injector bed may have some minor dirt or damage which is not visible with simple eye. That way the this side of the washer will lean by the shape of the bed. I did it yesterday, had to do a video.

Annealing the cooper, we do this with copper head gaskets on race kart engines, makes them more malleable👍🏽 I love all you gear heads out there! We are the best type of men!

Hello Andre, yes, you need to bleed the system after any fuelling system work including a fuel filter replacement. You can use any standard tools like ISTA, or a program such as Protool will do it. Even after a proper bleed it still takes good 2-3 cranks to get it started. Make sure your battery is healthy or car on a charger. Don’t crank too long to give starter a break. Usually 2-3 cranks of 5seconds or so does it.

Great video! When I try to test the resistance on my injectors I'm not getting any reading at all on all six of them. I know my meter works as I use it on other things. Any ideas? I have the car battery disconnected and the injectors still in the head.

Nick Maier thanks Nick. I know you posted on e90post and I had responded to you. Unless the injector (piezo) is completely dead, there has to be some reading. It may fluctuate, be very low and slowly rising. I would check you are in a right multimeter range and have good contact. You are trying to see the range for 182kOhm (kiloOhm) +/- 10kOhm

Part number 11120036237 they only come as a full set though. You can also look at what tunemyeuro has. I think they have a whole valve cover fastener set. May be cheaper.

Hey man, im currently changing the injector of cyl 6. Now I see it is flooded with seemingly water. Do you have any idea of where it could even come from? Its ooonly in cyl 6. I dont know if i should just change it.. Dont want to spend another 200 if it fills up with water again and breaks it

I'm in the process of changing out injector #5. The water drains right above injector 5 & 6 crack, and water drips down in the injector pocket, causing the injector solenoid to short out. This should have been a recall, but it wasn't. BMW apparently upgraded the center drain piece. There's all kinds of articles on forums and other videos on KZfaq addressing this problem.

Is it an x5? Rain trays had a bad design from factory and allowed water to leak onto the back injectors. On the 335d it can also happen as the weather seal on the cowl gets old. Keeping the rear engine cover on will cover the back two injectors from water.

Nice video I just watched to remind me of what needs to be done. Now does a new injector have to be registered with the cars computer? If so any suggestions on how to do this? Also for others reading this.. to the return lines off on some I used a large flat/straght screw driver instead of the small one and leveraged off the top of the injector with fuel line still in place.

Yeah a flat head screwdriver works beautifully. Yes the injectors need to be coded. Use ISTA if you have it or even easier is the Protool. Please keep your car on an external power supply when coding.

@@jdmtechllc6589 yes you do need numbers for coding. I usually use ISTA but you can code with Protool as well. It’s under DDE/ECU options if I recall correctly. Easy to find too. I suggest to always hook up a power supply when you code or work with these tools.

@@jdmtechllc6589 BMW says they need to be coded. It will run without coding but why wouldn’t one do it as it’s easy to do and the manufacturer and all their technical manuals and training states it needs to be done.

If you’ve done all the mechanical work properly and bled the fuel system it will start and drive, etc. but you should still program the injector properly.

Well a proper tool is best. Some people try twisting them. Some try prying it with a screwdriver. Please do not flood it with any liquid including a liquid wrench.

Hello thanks for the video, I need help please I wanted to change my injectors seals, I took out my injectors cleaned them, putted new seals an reinstalled them, but the problem is that when I tried to start the engine it cranks but dont start and all 4 injectors leaking like vapor from under the injector holes when I crank... I tightened everything normally is there any trick that I need to do when Installing? Do I need to push the injectors down before tightening the bolts or just put the injector in place is enough and start tightening? Please help me I'm stuck thank you

You need to clean the injector bored to make sure there is no debris. Make sure copper washers are new. Tighten to spec. Put your car on a good power supply. Bleed the fuel system. It will take good three long cranks and will start on the fourth one. Don’t overheat the starter. So 6-8sec each crank.

@@madoushi1634 yeah you have to pay attention to the orientation. Also make sure the studs did not back out. You car retorque those as well. Just pay attention to the torque values as they are easy to snap and if you break them you will have a whole valve cover job to do. Mind you if you have not done that usually needs to be done by 100k miles /150k km.

Search BMW injector puller or slide hammer. On Amazon. JTC4646 is one of them. If yours is an X5, then #6 injector you need an offset bracket like shown in the video. It’s home made though.

@@VisoBoard so I went back and loosened one of the hp fuel lines then turned accessories on to prime the fuel pump my fuel line was full of air that so after priming and retightening the hp line after fuel came out she fired right up at least that worked for me so give that a try

Advisable to clean and reseat injector port face, failure can cause gases to pass and burn the injector body !

Use proper tools to pull. Clean as much debris from around the injector. You can use penetrant oil to spray the bore. Just make sure you don’t spray on the injector as you may flood the piezo.

Do you break the return line nipple? If so yes your car will not start and you need to replace the whole line.

Yes one of return line plastic ,black peace is broken not whole but part of it , and now im getting fault code raill preasure at start 4B90 ,you think its a reason why its not starting ?

@@superplayerunknown729 I would assume that the reason you were removing the return line is to remove an injector or a few. If so, you would need to bleed the fuel system by running a bleed function in ISTA that will activate the LPFP and bleed the rail. So your car should start but the return line will see fuel pressure in it, not huge but if a nipple is broken you will see fuel dripping from it. Also your injectors will not work very well as they need that backpressure to operate properly. Best is to replace the return line. Not difficult but you gotta watch a nipple it connects to on the return feed and get a proper clamp.

You didn't mention that these injectors have shims and you should measure them to make sure you put the same size back in when you replace them.

Half of it is probably an actual injector but new Bosch ones without a logo are third of that price.

jskeses Hi and thanks for your positive feedback. It’s actually a steel bracket we made specifically for #6. You possibly can make one too. This one was welded from 3/8 plate steel and tapped to accept slide hammer. You can possibly find a steel angle and try to recreate. Had to buy one bolt for the slide hammer attachment to bolt through a hole in our attachment. I think it was M12x1.5. But will depend on tool you use.

My cylinder 5 injector needs to come out and it's part number is 13537808089, same as all others. If I order a part with number 13537808094, will it still work? My mechanic is warning me that programming might fail with 5 old and 1 new injector.

094 part number is a remanufactured injector. Either should work but I would highly suggest a new one. There is not a huge price difference between a new and reman injector. Coding a single injector does not fail. I have done it a few dozen times. Never fail.
