BMW E30 Fuel Filler Neck Removal & Restoration | Gas Tank Fill Pipe Rust | 014
In this BMW E30 project episode, I remove the fuel filler neck from the car and the hidden fuel vapour expansion tank that lives in the driver's side rear wheel arch.
Here's what I used in this video:
Brake line spanners: ebay.us/t2phCR
No Nonsense Degreaser: ebay.us/uxUtpu
Stiff Bristled Brush: ebay.us/9S31O3
Epoxy Primer Spray Paint: ebay.us/WobtXE
Sealey 0.8mm Patching Spray Gun: ebay.us/76xTBF2k
The objective was to get the filler neck out and assess it for rust as this is a common failure point of a BMW E30. Whatever the condition, seemed like refinishing it would be the right thing to do considering the effort I've put into restoring the gas tank itself.
In removing the gas tank filler neck, I was also able to access and clean up the area behind the filler cap, which is a trap for grime and rust. Luckily for me, the area seems quite solid. However, the fuel tank breather line which reaches back to the vapour expansion tank was mummified, to say the least, so that will need replacing.
