Am I wrong if I say that normally, bolts that require an angle after an initial torque are torque-to-yield (aka TTY) bolts and should never be reused? The rationale is that these bolts have plastic deformation (meaning a permanent deformation) when they're initially torqued and are not made to be torqued again.

Great job! 👍 I have a wet rear differential in my BMW F15 from rear end axles. Do you know if I can replace seals without removing the whole differential?
@BreakaBolt
@BreakaBolt 4 жыл бұрын
You should be able to replace the axel shaft seals without dropping the diff. It would be easier to work when you have the diff off the car, and you should replace both sides at the same time, since the seals are not that expensive.

Hi, mate good video, I have a question I do have 50000 km, for my bmw f30 2.0d .I noticed on the rear axle that I have wet marks visible on both sides, it looks like a gasket, there is no leakage but it is wet. is this the cause of the seals? How is it possible that with such a low mileage it happened? Thank you very much
@BreakaBolt
@BreakaBolt 3 жыл бұрын
I would just clean the wet area and check back in couple of weeks to make sure if its leaking. If so I would replace the seals better safe than sorry.

What's factory recommended amount of fluid needed after flush? Also, I am going wit the 95A diff bushings upgrade, do you approve? Thanks
@BreakaBolt
@BreakaBolt 4 жыл бұрын
BMW recommends around 2.5l. how ever you should get 3l of fluid and fill it up till it starts overflowing from the fill hole. Diff bushing grade depends on your usage. I'm using 80a for daily driving and occasional spirited drives.
@TheRedcroatian
@TheRedcroatian 4 жыл бұрын
@@BreakaBolt thank you! My initial thought was 80A but someone recommended 95A saying it's still not too stiff for a daily. I am not looking to take it to the track or anything so 80A should probably be a better choice, especially since I will be upgrading my sub-frame bushings to 95A...something's gotta give!

What size puller did you use for output shaft? 6 in, 8 in?
@ferrari1
@ferrari1 3 жыл бұрын
I zoomed in and can see 100 mm puller, that's about 4 in. So a 4 inch puller is what he used.

On the imput shaft bolt you said 32mm but can you remove the cover? And would that make it 30mm?
@BreakaBolt
@BreakaBolt 2 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about the crush washer? You have to replace it everything you remove the bolt. And it dosent change the nut size.

On the removal of the shaft bolt cover plate you used a 32mm but cant you remove the cover making the nut a 30 or still a 32mm? On Real oem it advises not to replace them. Thanks for the reply

Completely over tightened the pinion nut 🤦‍♂️. Hows the diff been holding up?
@BreakaBolt
@BreakaBolt 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't had a chance to test the diff yet, since I'm still building the rest. However, can remedy the issue of overturning the pinion by redoing it, if there isn't much miles on the diff. just have to change the, gasket and new lock collar and use dial type torque gauge and measure the resistance before turning the diff. I measured mine and it was around 18-19lbft. And I think that is around the ballpark, but there isn't much set info on it.
@TheRedcroatian
@TheRedcroatian 4 жыл бұрын
How do you know? Where is this pinion nut, I am about to do my diff. Thanks!
@BreakaBolt
@BreakaBolt 4 жыл бұрын
pinion nut, hold the input shaft in (its where the drive shaft connects. You can save a lot of time and headache by marking the position of the nut before you take it off, make sure to count the number of rotations as well. follow the number of rotations and align to the mark when you put it back on as well.
