Excellent video footage and so simple. I remember my BMW650I 2007 had similar issues and sometimes whistle noise. I had both PCV replaced including the hose connector. Small advise to wear cloves while working just incase you get hurt with all the oil and dust. Thank you 🙏 SO much fantastic video. 👍.

Thanks ! Yes, it is a very easy fix to the smoking caused by the diaphragm going bad. Unfortunately, the valve stem seals will also go bad in these motors as well which will cause the same symptoms, but if they are still good, this seems to take care of the problem 👍. All the best ! Steve

@@jmoreno1011 Hello, yes, it could be a ruptured diaphragm making a whistling noise, but it also might be a crack in one of the rubber intake pipes or connections as well. I’ve even heard them making a whistling noise when the air filter is getting stopped and needed changing from the extra restriction causing air to be pulled through the seal on the air filter housing.

@@jmoreno1011 Replacement of PVC won’t harm the car, it’s very reasonable cost also. IF you haven’t had both PVC replaced? Then I would advise you before replacing check the condition. You can actually do it yourself. Most likely these PCV do get damaged. Since I had mine replaced along with the hose. The engine seems to be very stable. The whistle noise disappeared and no engine shaking. Garage won’t tell you. They will make big noise. It cost me $100 including labor. Good luck and hope my feedback and the reply will help others. 🤲

I have been doing a lot of research on my E64. A lot of sites are recommending valve seal replacement. what my 06 650i does is it lets a big plume of smoke out when revving the engine after it has been idling for an extended period of time. I have been after a solution for about a year now, and the problem is becoming worse, with shortened idle time before the smoke comes out of the tailpipe when giving it throttle. I have replaced both PCV's, and I am convinced that the issue with my engine isn't the valve seals. I found a site that talks about vacuum leaks that can develop just about anywhere in the top end of the engine. These leaks reduce the negative pressure inside the engine, affecting most notably at idle, of course. I removed the crankcase vent hose and replaced it with a long clear tube, with small oil separators connected inline, like a filter, for both sides. I am finding that the smoke plumes have diminished to almost nothing, and a relatively large amount of oil now gets trapped in the hoses and the separators. Notably, when the engine is idling, if I slightly open the oil fill cap, you can see the air rushing inside the clear hoses, pushing the oil towards the intake. In short term I plan on installing a catch can to collect the oil, and drain it periodically. in the long term, i will have to replace every seal in the top end. But even then I am probably just going to leave the catch can in place to catch any oil pushed through the vent system. would be nice to find a good location to route a drain hose from the catch can back to the crankcase, with some sort of a one way valve, so it drains when the engine isn't running. Has anyone done anything like this?

Yevgeniy Levin , hey man ! Thanks for the comment. Yep, vacuum leaks cause all sorts of problems with these motors. I’ve replaced the valve cover gaskets and spark plug tubes twice on mine. The spark plug tubes start leaking and grounds out the plugs as well well as causing leaks...they were a bad design I think. For the catch can idea, I have seen that another person did this with good results as well, but I did not see that they installed a return pipe back with a valve. That might be a good idea if you can determine a way to do it. I can not think of any ports on the engine that are lower than the valve covers that it could feed back to though. I’ll look around on the motor the next time I am doing something on it and if I find a spot I’ll let you know. All the best ! Steve

KRELL 427 , thanks ! Yep, so far so good on the PCV valves (I changed them a while ago on my wife’s ‘08 650i as well as the one in the video). The one I was helping a friend out in the video was an ‘06 or ‘07 so this PCV valves were in a slightly different location than my ‘08, but they change out identically. One day I’m sure the valve stem seals will go and the smoking will come back, but so far both of the cars were just the PCV valves. Cool that someone else has both a V10 M and a 650i 😃...both are great cars and awesome to drive.

Thanks for the great video! Hope I can help with a quick test I discovered. I didn't notice smoke on my '06 650i with 112k miles but it is using more oil so I decided to check my PCV valves before ordering since they seemed so easy to access. As I was about to remove the first cover I realized that the hose barb in the cover could be used for a quick test. I connected a short length of hose to one and used my vacuum tester to draw a vacuum. The vacuum held on the passenger side but not on the driver side valve. This seems to indicate that only the driver's side is bad. I tried this again by just blowing/sucking on the end of the hose and could easily tell the difference so if you don't have a vacuum tester you could still test it with just some hose. Might not show a very tiny leak but would definitely show the same large failures that the valves in your video had. Time to order the new valves. I'll replace both since one is bad but if both were good and I had less mileage I'd leave them alone.

I know it's been awhile since this posted but I too will try the pcv valve replacement. Definitely better to start off cheaper & with the mileage at 130k its time for it anyways. No harm no foul right? My 06 650i started smoking after the idle too & ill be attempting an oil catch can after the pcv valve if it didn't rectify the problem. Also do you have any videos of how you set up you catch can? I've also read that one owner changed out his oil from Quaker to Penzoil or vice versa & this stopped his smoking from the exhaust & he tested his theory by switching back the oil change after & after a few days it started to smoke again so the oil change after he switched back & again it stopped. I am doing this today as well to try to kill the smoke. I will sell the car before I change the valve guide seals. Period! Thanks for the video Steve, I'm newly subscribed to your page so ill be looking through any other helpful videos you have!

Thanks man ! Yes, it’s a really easy diy and doesn’t cost much for the PCV valves so it’s a good first thing to do. I actually never put a catch can on mine as the new PCV valves fixed it since the old ones were torn and bypassing. Fast forwarding to now after about 40k more miles and several years since the video (like you were saying), mine is now doing the smoking when I accelerate after it has sat at idle for a few minutes again (like when going through a drive through). I checked the PCV valves and they are fine so now it’s looking like it’s valve stem seals that have indeed finally gone bad. I’m not looking forward to doing the valve stem seals for sure (other than getting to learn how to do it and seeing how hard it will be just so I’ll know, lol.), but my wife just loves this car and doing the stem seals is much much cheaper than buying a new car for sure ! Doing the seals probably won’t be too bad ( I’ve been researching it some ), but I don’t like working on things that can mess the timing up on these with all of the variable valve timing stuff on it. Usually it is never as bad as I imagine once I get into something though. Thanks for subscribing to the channel 👍. Yep, there are several videos about the 650i and also my M6 on the channel…most of the 650i ones are about the convertible top though as it is the number one thing that I’ve had to work on the most on the car. Thanks again and all the best ! Steve

Hi Steve, great video. Do you know if a faulty PCV is may cause a misfire under acceleration? Thanks
@StevesDIYs
@StevesDIYs 2 жыл бұрын
Hey man ! I’m not sure if a faulty PCV valve would directly cause misfires, but if it has been bad for a while it could easily have helped to foul the plugs with the bypassing oil. Most of the misfire issues I’ve seen on these relate to spark plugs going bad, bad coils, or leaks with the spark plug tubes that are between the valve covers and the heads. If you pull the plugs and find fresh oil on the upper portion of the plug, bottom of the coil nose, or the socket that was used to take the spark plug out, this is a good indicator that the plug tubes are leaking and need changing. I’m at around 160k miles on my car and have had to change these plug tubes twice due to getting cylinder misfires from the oil collecting around the spark plugs. Hope this helps and all the best ! On item you rarely see is the milage on these cars, it would be great to know the milage and when to expect these issues
@StevesDIYs
@StevesDIYs 7 ай бұрын
Hello, for this issue, I would say it relates to both mileage as well as the age of the vehicle. Since the rubber diaphragm of the PCV valve has been covered with a thin film of oil all of its life which eventually causes it to harden and rupture, even a car that has not been driven much over the years would have the same issue. For reference mine is a 2008 and the diaphragms lasted about 120k miles and about 10 years. As a note, the next typical issue that will cause exhaust smoke is when the valve stem seals go bad (which mine is now starting to experience). Those seem to last about 150-170k miles as mine is now at 160k and it has just started smoking a little for a minute after the car sits for a few weeks. That is a much bigger job to fix, but I’ll be doing that this winter to hopefully fix it before it causes any damage to the catalytic converters by stopping them up. Hope this helps some and all the best ! Steve

Thanks ! I would probably change them out with the motor relatively cool…definitely not just after driving as the valve covers and parts of the motor would be very hot if touched. Since the replacement diaphragms typically come with new black plastic covers, there’s no worry about breaking the tabs off from the plastic being brittle from being cool. @StevesDIYs
@StevesDIYs 2 жыл бұрын
@@ELIJAH-lw6dq , hey man ! That seems odd that new ones would cause misfires, unless maybe the new ones were restricting properly at idle which allowed the motor to pull accumulated oil that was in the rubber hoses into the intake. I’d probably give the new ones a try again for a few minutes just in case they didn’t seat correctly under the cap or something. If it does the same thing again with the misfire there must be something the car doesn’t like about the rubber being stiffer. How many miles do you have one yours? If you are pushing 140k miles, it could be that the valve stem seals have gone bad. I was gonna do a cylinder leak down test on mine just to see if the guides are bad when I get ready to do mine (just to see). That might be an option just to see if the stem seals are bad on yours. I figure mine must be bad by now since I’m up there in mileage so I’m just going to test just to see and then replace them.

@StevesDIYs 3 жыл бұрын
Pete Burns , thanks man ! I think in some cases it does end up being the valve stem seals after lots of miles, but from what I’ve seen (and also several comments and discussions) a lot of the time it’s either these diaphragms or a vacuum leak allowing oil to enter the manifold and burn it. These valves are pretty cheap, seem to go bad pretty quick, and are easy to do so they are like the first thing I look at (other than like checking to see if the oil cap is sealing or listening for any vacuum hissing noises). If no issues are found, I would start suspecting the valve guides, but before I did that job, I’d make a catch can like a subscriber to two has done and put it in the lines of the PCV valves and see if that fixed it as something else might be letting the oil bypass to the manifold. Last on the list would be the valve guide seals for me. Fortunately the two cars I’ve corrected were both the PCV valves so I haven’t had to go further. Sorry for the long reply...hope it help though 👍, Steve

Pete Burns , actually I would indeed be asking if I could take it to a mechanic to have them give the car a once over even if it’s just to check for this (if you are allowed to do that there like in the US). If the owner agreed, I would take it to a local mechanic give them 20 bucks and show them how to remove and check the diaphragm for tears. If the diaphragms were indeed torn, that would at least let me know it was possibly the issue. If they were not torn and still in good shape I would then know the likelihood of the oil burn was something more costly to fix. The diaphragm covers can be removed and clipped back on without damaging them to check the rubber diaphragm if the clips are popped carefully with a small pick. Heck, I would let the owner come with me to the mechanic so they could see too...if they were torn they would see it had another issue that they did not know about that needed to be fixed...if they weren’t torn you would probably not want to buy it anyway as it might be a much bigger issue...win win in my book 😄. @StevesDIYs
@StevesDIYs 4 жыл бұрын
Neil P71 , hello, so does it smoke continuously when idling after running (like the drive thru scenario), or just when you accelerate again after sitting (like at the drive thru). The bypassed oil burning off from the torn diaphragms in the vent valves is typically a light grey or blue looking smoke that puffs when you idle for a bit and then take off again. From what I’ve seen, black smoke typically indicates a fuel/air mix ratio issue or low compression in a cylinder that is not allowing for a complete combustion. If it is oil burn off (more like the grey smoke) the next step I would do would be to do a compression leak down test on each cylinder to see if maybe the valve guide seals were going bad (they are known to eventually go bad in these motors as well). If it’s black smoke, I would probably run some injector cleaner through to see if one of the injectors was not closing off all the way and dripping fuel at idle when it’s not supposed to. If that didn’t help, then I would have to really get into seeing what the issue was (hook it up to the software to look for irregular firing of any plugs, pull all of the plugs and look for stuff like black soot on any of them, do a compression test, test the injectors, etc...). That’s when it gets time consuming (or more expensive if someone had to take it to someone to have it looked at).
@NeilKudro
@NeilKudro 4 жыл бұрын
@@StevesDIYs hello, This happens after at least 30mins of driving and when you stop at a red light or at a drive-through idling dark gray smoke comes out. It all goes away when you drive back up again. The car drives great no hesitation and no loss of any power. In the last three weeks I kept checking on the engine oil level and today it dropped a bit. I had to put back almost one quart of oil. I did change both valve seals and both were torn away.
@StevesDIYs
@StevesDIYs 4 жыл бұрын
Neil P71 , ok, does sound like oil burning then a bit. If you just recently changed the PCV valves and both were torn, they may have been letting oil get into the plenum for quite some time so it may take a bit of time to get the residue out of the intake and burn it away. Mine still did the puffs of smoke for several weeks when I first changed my split ones till it all made its way down through the pipes and burnt out. If it doesn’t clear up after several weeks of regular driving...I’d suspect the valve stem seals may be getting worn (which is a big job to change all of them out). The compression leak down test would help determine if they were bad, but could also indicate worn piston rings too (there’s a way to tell which it is by putting a little oil I the cylinder and doing the leak down test...if the compression still leaks down after putting a little oil in the cylinder then it points to the valve stem seals. For reference on the oil burning, mine burns around a quart every 2000 miles (I have about 145k miles on mine), but it has done that since I got it with 50k miles on it). Not sure where it goes, but does seem to “normally” consume some and hasn’t ever given a problem. Hope this helps...maybe it will clear in up in a few weeks once it gets all the blow by out of the system. If not, it may be the valve stem seals that need replacing. There will be a day that I’ll have to change my valve stem seals on mine...seems it is a common occurrence for them to begin leaking on these N62 engines.

@@JomesZ , thanks, yep these motors run pretty good and seem mechanically sound, but the gaskets and seals are not so robust it seems. The diaphragms are a good way for oil to get into the cylinders and go bad fairly early from what I’ve found. The next easy way for oil to get into the combustion cylinders is through the valve guide seals as they are also known to go bad as well. After that it would be something much worse like worn rings or a head gasket, but fortunately these aren’t very common if the oil changes have been done, oil level maintained, and the motor has never been run along time while overheated. The valve stem seal replacement is a much bigger job and requires some special tools to be bought or rented (or the heads pulled). If replacing the diaphragms doesn’t fix it (after allowing several days of driving to pull the oil residue out of the intake) I would suspect the valve guide seals. Hope this helps 👍. Steve

Hello, it seems some of the 2007 motors were slightly different for the PCV versus the 2008 through 2010 models. If yours only has one PCV valve, then the one does the work for the two on my car. I’m guessing that they added the second one since oil smoke comes out of the oil fill cap when it is removed as it’s on the left side valve cover when facing the motor (on mine anyway) and BMW didn’t like seeing that lol ! It’s the same function though and if the diaphragm has a tear in it, it will bypass the oil…you just have one to replace versus two 👍. Hope this helps a bit and all the best ! Steve

Hi Steve my name is Alvin, and I'm a new subscriber. I have the 2005 645ci, my original crankcase vent valves, has the vent hose on the black cap. The black cap has the nipple on it. When I try to order them, they don't make them anymore with the nipple on them. They all come without the nipple. Do you have any Knowledge on this?
@StevesDIYs
@StevesDIYs 3 жыл бұрын
Hey man ! Thanks for subscribing 👍. Yes, I do remember that the original ones had a hose barb nipple on them that a small pipe was connected to. If you are able to get the plastic cover off of the PCV valve without breaking it, the spring and diaphragm for the new ones can be used inside then the original cap put back on. If you do break the little tabs getting the old one off, I think the practice was to replace it with the non-nipple newer version and then cap off the end of the hose that was connected to it as I think it just went back to the filtered air supply (you can probably trace the small hose down to confirm where it connects to in the other end. The hose is not needed for the PCV valve to operate, but if not capped off it might leave an unfiltered air flow path into the intake. Hope this helps 👍. All the best ! Steve

@@StevesDIYs Hay Steve thanks for replying. The way my crankcase vent valves are setup is, there's a hose coming from both caps, into a plastic Y connector. At the bottom of the Y connector the other hose goes to the big black tube for the intake. I saw a KZfaq video where the guy caped off the hoes going to the intake tube. And removed the two hoses from the crankcase vent valves tops. I will get the information on that video and send it to you.

Ok Steve here's the information on that video I told you about. Bullseye DIY: crankcase ventilation hose replacement part 1. Go to 3:55 in the video. It shows that he caped off the hose coming from the intake big plastic pipe. What do you think?
@StevesDIYs
@StevesDIYs 3 жыл бұрын
@@alvintobe5566 , yep, I looked at the video and do see that he put a screw or something into the remaining short section of the very small tube (like 3/8” is size tube). You could either do that (cap it off right at the big plastic intake pipe that connects to the throttle body where the butterfly intake valve is) it just cap the ends off that used to connect to the small barbed nipple that was on the original PCV valve cover. 👍. Either way works as it just needs to prevent any unfiltered air from entering the intake.

I was getting the smoke when I sat at idle and then put it in reverse (a big cloud) but it was rare. I never noticed smoke otherwise because I'm always the one driving the darn thing and loving every moment of it. BMW told me they were positive it was the valve stem seals...and since the engine was gonna be out for the valley pan coolant leak i should go ahead with the valve seals...Quote..........$10550....The Service Manager was involved with this one, so I hope to god this wasn't the rip off of the century.....they said the rear main seal was leaking plus i opted to change the oil pan gasket....been almost two weeks in the shop and i'm gonna pick it up today...attended to the alternator bracket gasket many times...120K miles on the car...anyone else have these issues?

J hhhy , sounds like you are getting the major issues covered for sure ! Always difficult to swallow an expensive bill, but from your list it sounds like you’ll be good for many more miles on the big stuff 👍. Yep, IMO the PCV valves only cause little puffs of smoke after idling for a bit...from what I’ve seen, it would take idling for a very long time to get big puffs if it was only the PCV valves. Common flaws with these I’ve seen so far are: oil cooler seal leaks, stem seals, spark plug tube leaks and valve cover gasket leaks (they should do this when they do the stem seals), PCV valves, coolant cross over tube, small coolant leaks on the cross over plate between the engine and transmission, and idler pulleys for the belts. Eventually oil pan gaskets and crank seals go as well as the water pump and thermostat, but those are pretty common for most every engine. I’m at 135k on the odo and have done everything but the stem seals and the coolant cross over plate at the back of the engine...I’m sure I’ll be doing these in a few years more as well. Makes it all worth while though when when I get behind the wheel and open it up 😃

Wow. 10k 😑 I've been watching mine blow smoke at red lights for a year and I'm about to get into the repair. Shits embarrassing. And mines a convertible so I just want to slouch down onto the floor if I have to stop for a long light. The longer it sits idle, the more smoke it produces on take off. My buddy said it's the 'rings' and reading through these comments, sounds like it could also be valve stem gaskets? Same thing, or? I just blew up the ccc (nav screen) apparently as well from jumping it. What a pain. Checked the fuses and can't find any blown (trunk and glove box). Bout to take out the dash panels and ccc to see if there's a fuse on the back of it or something. Radio still works tho, weird.

@@JW-uq7zp I did replace them (pcv gaskets) since it was the cheapest, easiest starting point. No luck. I smelled electrical burning when I got in the car after jumping it so I assumed like every other normal car it would be a fuse for the ccc, can't find a blown one.. Hasn't come on in 2 months, not even a flicker. I can't sell it like this so gotta fix or drive the wheels off.

Hey man ! Yep, no worries on which way the little vent hole goes as long as the cap snapped down on all of the tabs properly 👍. Some models had a little hose connected to the vent so the hose would need to be connected, but if yours just had the plastic part on one side with no hose (like mine) it shouldn’t matter as it’s just to let air in on top of the diaphragm. Hope this helps and all the best ! Steve

What is the difference between bmw 650i f13, n63, and e63/e64 models ?
@StevesDIYs
@StevesDIYs Жыл бұрын
Hello, from what I’ve seen, for the motor, the F12/F13 650i has the n63 motor (like you said) which is a turbo’d 4.4 liter V8 vs. the n62 motor in the e63/e64 650i which is a 4.8 liter naturally aspirated V8. The n63 motor outs out over 400 hp while the n62 motor was around 350 hp. I believe the turbo’d 4.4 v8 is basically based on the block of the older 4.4 that was in the late ‘90’s / early 2000 cars like the 740il…just with turbos added. The older 4.4 v8 motor lasted for ever (I actually still have my ‘98 740il with well over 250,000 miles on it and it’s still going strong, lol) so the motor was easily able to handle the extra hp from the turbos. As far as the rest of the car, it is very similar except that they changed the computer system to a newer type (no longer the old k/dcan system with the addition the optical network) which integrated things better between the various systems. I don’t believe much else changed other than small changes to the body style and the interior (not many of the components of the e63/e64 are interchangeable with the F series though due to design differences). Hope this helps and all the best ! Steve

Are these engines as terrible as they say ?? Thank you ..
@StevesDIYs
@StevesDIYs 4 жыл бұрын
sputnik , hello...the n62 engine mechanically seems to be really solid, but IMO BMW dropped the ball on the rubber components (Orings, gaskets,etc...) for sure. Almost every non-routine maintenance item I’ve had to do on the engine has related to a bad seal or rubber part...and the worst part is that some are really labor intensive to replace so having a shop do it would get expensive. Examples of bad seals are things like: the oil cooler seal that requires the engine mount to be removed, the coolant cross over tube that is a bear to get to and hard to change unless you buy the expandable aftermarket one, the spark plug tubes between the engine and valve cover that leak so oil grounds out the plugs, valve cover gaskets, the PCV valve diaphragms(that one is easy though), and by far the most expensive is when the valve stem seals finally wear out. Most of these easily go 100k miles, but most will need a refresh soon after that (thus why the price drops significantly to buy one as they get up into the low 100k Miles). Once the common gaskets leaks are fixed at what I call the engines “mid-life”, they seem to be good for another 100k with just the regular stuff giving out (like water pumps, alternators, thermostats, etc...). This motor just hits it’s mid life a bit earlier than the older BMW engine platforms it seems. For example, my ‘98 740il with the m62 engine hit it’s mid life at about 160k miles (when all of the seals started going)...replaced all of the leaking gaskets and things that were going bad and now it has around 240k miles and is still going strong. Hope this helps 👍

Hello, this is a fairly common part to replace so it should be easily found by googling your year and model number (it changed a little for a couple of the years of the 645 and 650i). Another option to find the exact part for yours is to go to RealOEM.com as you can put in your year and model for parts as well as even typing in your VIN for the search. Hope this helps a bit and all the best ! Steve

Where do I order those PCV Valves ?
@StevesDIYs
@StevesDIYs 4 жыл бұрын
Basketball junky Game , hello...I got the replacement ones from O’reilly Autoparts locally. They are aftermarket Dorman ones (p/n 911-117), but they have a lifetime guarantee and since they are so easy to change out I’ll never have to buy them again...just trade them out if they go bad, lol. For really hard stuff to get to on the car to fix, I’ll go OE most times as the OE parts last longer it seems, but this one is easy to do.

It ain't the PCV valve. N62 engines are notorious for valve stem seals rotting away due to being made from recyclable material. Good try though.
@StevesDIYs
@StevesDIYs 4 жыл бұрын
Steven Otto , hello...odd that it has stopped the puffs of smoke on two N62 engines I’ve done if it’s always going to be the valve stem seals. I do agree that eventually the valve seals will go bad on these engines due to the material used, but which one would you look at first...the PCV valves that cost under $50 usd and take a few minutes to change, or taking the plunge and doing (on having done) the really big and much more expensive job of changing the stem seals? If the PCV valves are not bad when they are checked, then at least the easy correction is ruled out and the valve stems seals would be next in line to suspect if it’s still puffing smoke.

Steve’s DIYs where is the oil separator located in these engines in the back of the motor?,
@StevesDIYs
@StevesDIYs 4 жыл бұрын
John Lira , I think the exact location varies a bit from year to year on this engine, but it should be located on somewhere along the pipes that connect to the PCV valves that the diaphragms were removed in the video. Should be up front in between the pipes that cross over the top of the motor that connect the PCV valves ( the Crank case ventilation system includes the separator, the PCV valves, and the piping that connects them all together).

@StevesDIYs 11 ай бұрын
Hello, yes, there are some differences in the 2006-2007 e63/e64 models vs. the 2008-2010 e63/e64. Some of the ‘06 and ‘07 models were also equipped with the 4.4 liter motor vs. the 4.8. You motor’s vanity cover (the pretty plastic cover on top of the motor) may also look different than the one in the video as well which gives an indication that BMW did some changes. Even the PCV valve diaphragm cover had a slight design change as some have a port for a little pipe to connect to, while others just have an air vent type port. The function is the same for the PCV valve for all of the models though and when the diaphragm goes bad, it will pull oil into the cylinders and burn it. Hope this helps a bit on the differences and all the best ! Steve

Gotta love BMW’s cheap garbage ass plastic. Damn joke all the cheap plastic they use on there ridiculously over priced vehicles. No plastic should be used under the hood of any vehicle. But that’s how BMW makes the most profit. U got lucky boss 30$ fix vs 3500$ fix for 15$ worth of rubber valve seals.
