BMW E90 320D LCI Failed Crank Pulley & 335i Axle Test
A bit of a vlog on loading the replacement axle up on the road and replacing the crank pulley on a 2011 E90 LCI 320D. I wanted to see how much easier it was to fit the 4 bolt crank pulleys vs the single bolt on the earlier models.

Nice instructional video as usual. Also, "do as we advise, not as we do" 😉

I see its the same as my e46 330d M57 Engine, The 320d just has much more space to change the pulley.

Next will be the timing chain. Or did they fix that issue in the LCI?

Is the crank pulley failure common on these? I had an r53 and they were guaranteed to fail on that car but I haven’t heard on any e90 pulley failures.

The 2 320D cars i know have now both done crank pulleys. Seems to happen around 100,000k's.

To be honest i think just go with genuine. This one ended up failing about 4 months after it was fitted.

Does your clutch diff require regular maintenance? Don’t really know much about LSD maintenance.
@ZeroTo60Tube
@ZeroTo60Tube 3 жыл бұрын
This is my first one in a street car. So we will see how it goes. It will definitely require yearly diff oil changes. I am thinking of adding some friction modifier to it to calm the chatter down. The diff is really aggressive, which is great when you are on the gas, but im thinking it might be a little overkill for me........ i cant believe i just said that.
@lukeviewservice
@lukeviewservice 3 жыл бұрын
Do you think it might be a bit much for a daily? Is it a one way? Would explain why you couldn’t reverse when you had the broken axle.
@ZeroTo60Tube
@ZeroTo60Tube 3 жыл бұрын
@@lukeviewservice Its full on that's for sure. Probably overkill for a street car full stop. It is a 1.5 way. That said the way it accelerated today in the wet was really impressive.

Sadly guys those Ryobi impact guns are gutless, I looked at them as I have other Ryobi tools. You won't shift anything tight with them 🤷🏻‍♂️

@BiglumpADV
@BiglumpADV 3 жыл бұрын
@@ZeroTo60Tube Got the DeWalt one. Almost as powerful as the top end impacts but a fraction of the price. I've got a couple 4AH batteries and so far it'll shift everything I've tried it on 👌🏻

I prefer Milwaukee, my dad used to use ryobi tools and they seem to be less robust
@BiglumpADV
@BiglumpADV 3 жыл бұрын
@@tcjay119 I don't disagree there, mate of mine has one and it's brilliant but only slightly more powerful for about 6 times the cost. Each to their own I guess but for home use I'll stick with the DeWalt 👍🏻

Do you use a radar detector? Or just hope for the best ?
@ZeroTo60Tube
@ZeroTo60Tube 3 жыл бұрын
I personally never speed. Its smoke and mirrors on youtube.... But the radar detectors are illegal here. Plus most speed cameras are laser so the only way to block them is with a laser jammer which they can pick up straight away. The best thing to do, is be fully aware of your surroundings.

Are BMWs common in AUS? Everyone you know seems to have one... or, do you only make friends with people who own BMWs? :) People that are willing to punish themselves for that RWD awesomeness.
@ZeroTo60Tube
@ZeroTo60Tube 3 жыл бұрын
They aren't that common. Mainly because they cost so much to maintain here if you go to a dealership.....however i think i know so many people with BMWs because we can normally help keep them on the road for cheap.
