The main selling point between 330D and 335D is not that it has more power with the second turbo and/or gets more power with a tune. The point is, that those turbos work staggered along the rev band and therefore deliver a very linear powerband compared to the (stock) single turbo ones which top out at around 3,5k rpm. the twin turbo has a smaller turbo for the lower revs and a big one that only really picks up at above 3k. it has a very gasoline/NA type of feel up there as more rev brings more power instead of dropping off the cliff like most single turbo diesels do. the added horsepower is just a bonus. I had both an E90 325D and a E92 335D both models from 2011.

My wife had a 2009 335d and it was so quick.

salaam bro great review i have the same car which ive owned for the last 5 years. still amazes me how this car was so fast when launched 15 years ago. mine is stage 1 pushing 360bhp and still smokes stock golf rs s3s like u said its that torque wat makes this engine so fast when that big turbo kicks in the car turns into a rocket.

4 pot 320d has a nice bit of torque this 335d must be phenomenal.

I'm torn between one of these bad boys or a 330d because of the manual option. Why they didn't sell these with a self swapper is just criminal, I know the old "too much torque" line but it's a BMW! How they couldn't just beef up the manual box to fit this is mind blowing as they would of sold many more than they did with the slob-box only. To me it's not the ultimate driving machine without a spot of heel and toe.

A few things: these cars are NOT M3s nor should we compare them to them except as competition. An M3 is all about the revs; high rpms for the horsepower. The Ds are not high reving but are torque monsters; torque being the other half of the power equation. A 335d's power band lasts longer and more consistently through ALL gears and doesn't let off until well over 130 mph and even higher for tuned examples. And M3's power band starts to taper off at about 120mph giving a335d and advantage over longer distances. These cars don't have to be M3s, they are M3 killers in a straight away races especially if tuned and deleted. Where an M3 is better is in their cornering. A 335 of any spec is not as agile or grippy, BUT like mine, if you install M3 control arms, performance shocks, and springs and anti-sway bars, it performs in corners the same. Even with all the mods to make them better than M3s all around, it still will be more affordable going this route than getting a used M3 of the same era.

Great car and looks nice in black. No need to remap these, they perform insanely well without. Mine was remapped (well over 300bhp) when I bought it and I had it converted back to its original 286bhp. It was overboosting and messed up the electronics with the gearbox with the mapping so I'd probably advise against it.

Buying one today can't wait 286 bhp 580 nm.is acutally insane numbers!!

It is if you convert it to 6 speed manual, then it's the car BMW should have sold.

With a filter delete and remap you get 360hp and 10mpg improvement. To really make it an M3 rival take it to birds bmw near heathrow. B1 handling kit, tyres and Quaffe LSD. If you track it also get brakes upgraded. I didnt get the brakes done. Overall it becomes faster than the V8 M3 with much better tank range and better handling & traction. Mine has 340,000 on the clock in the last 12 years.
