Today Marcus reviews the BMW i8 to find out if it's just a hybrid commuter and city car, or if it's an all-out supercar. With an electric motor system combined with a small, turbocharged gasoline engine, the i8 delivers almost 400hp to all four wheels, giving it an exciting feeling of torque and thrust when you row through the gears using the paddle shifters. I was surprised to see this car being covered by Roads Untraveled, but it is a happy surprise. Maybe, this is your best feature so far, although it would have been nice if you’d known the specs about the car for sure upfront (now you were hesitating every now and then). The review part of this car, adds a different flavor to the coverage. The way you describe the car while driving it, is such a nice visual that I understand - sitting at home - how the car would feel when I would be in it! That combined with the incredible - almost advertising-like - video footage, makes this an awesome video! I have seen the BMW i8 only once in person and I fell in love with the design instantly. But I thought like, yeah it's a nice gimmick, but it's all electric… knowing now that it is a hybrid makes it so much different. The best of both worlds.

Marcus, I love the videos and reviews. love the music also. everything you said about the I8 is on point. I work on them in the body shop at a BMW/Mini Cooper/Rolls Royce processing plant in southeast Georgia. all brand new cars fresh from Germany/South Africa. people have to drive them to know the experience. the sound and smooth acceleration is absolutely surprising! my favorite to drive is the 2016 m3 even though we have the m4, m5,m6, Alpina b6, Alpina b7, I8, and every other BMW/Mini Cooper you can imagine. the John Cooper works Cooper s is a blast to drive to. but enough of my rambling. awesome videos! keep it up!

Hey guys, i'm a fan from Lithuania ! i love your videos, and Marcus, you are damn good host ! i watch every single video :P for me i8 is a super car, it is the future i think. So, i have one question, maybe offer i guess. You should try to drive Datsun 280Z, it has just about 180HP in stock, its old japanese sports car, but its fun to drive, fast, nimble and sounds amazing. :))

What kind of MPG did you get? I remember watching the review that Jeremy Clarkson did on this car and he said that BMW were claiming to get like over 130MPG, but feedback from actual buyers revealed that they were only getting around 30. That is a pretty damn big difference and kinda defeats the whole purpose of the car, since you can even get 30MPG on the highway from a new stingray. It's all perspective I guess, I wouldn't consider it a supercar since it's competitors (performance wise) are corvettes and lower model 911s, and those are high performance sports cars. It does have supercar traits though, mainly in the looks and doors. Then again, Jeremy Clarkson referred to the Lotus Evora as a supercar during his review and that car doesn't have supercar power. It had supercar handling though and looks too I guess. Anyway great video brahs, top notch camera and editing work as usual.

would be nice to mention any modifications that are done to the cars that you review, because that is NOT A stock color you can choose, the color accents anywhere except on the skirts are NOT stock, as neither are the wheels. This is important information when reviewing any vehicle.

Ever thought about a 'Classic car special' series? Like a video every 2 weeks with a classic car. Try looking at Petrolicious for example. All due respect, jdm cars are awesome and all the stories of these guys building their machines but there's an extra layer of emotion that goes into restoration and owning a classic car. Would add to the variety and cool factor on your channel. I'm biased cause I'm a classic car enthusiast, but it's a good suggestion I believe.

I would like to see that too! But I like the tuned cars. Maybe classic cars that have been (slightly) modified to meet the owner's personal taste and ideas about the car? Cars like the 1972 Alfa Romeo Berlina that Petrolicious covered once… @ScoopyDaizy: But this may not be your point of view? I am not sure if you are a purist when it comes to classic cars, cause I know not everyone likes modified classic cars.

How about a "Super Sports Car"... Definitely a sports car, with Super economy. Light to light with 4.4 seconds is no slouch, loses out with a minimal 155 top speed. I love the thing.

Super car does have a definition. Its a car that has a top speed of over 300 km per hour. So technically this car doesn't fit in this category. However, since it is a hybrid does that mean that it gets placed in a category specific to hybrid super cars??

a competitor to this car is the 2016 honda/acura nsx, both hybrid, 100-150k range

The NSX costs about $30-40k more and has about 200hp more as well. Similar ideas, but the NSX is in a different category. Having never driven one, of course.
