Engine oil needs is the best cleaner. Flushing is never needed and only harm the engine. Unless it has sludge build up from bad design engine that is always bad

Oil capacity for an oil and filter change is 6.5 litres, the electronic oil level sensor takes a while to respond, a few engine on/off cycles.

Just done a oil and filter change on my 520D and I made a silly mistake of putting the large O ring hard up against the top of the cap where it should be in the recess just below. Lost about a litre. Won't happen again. LOL. Like your vids Good to watch and well put across. Thank you.

A few Tips: You can use a turkey baster to remove at least 200ml more of dirty old oil from the filter housing. On my N52 (525i) the sump plug is horizontal so you have to position the catch pan strategically to get the oil out without spillage. I also use Wurth engine flush every oil service and leave to idle 30 mins before the oil change. - BMW don’t actually advise oil flushes but I’ve seen them do no harm over the year many years on my N52. I also away use a MANN branded filter I believe it’s OEM. The copper washer is sometimes referred to as a “crush washer” that’s why you replace it every time. Hope video this helps someone.✌🏼

One more 👍🏼 - my 525i N52 easily accepts 7 litres of new oil - but I can often put in 8 litres after a full drain of the old oil. Maybe start with adding 7 litres and see if you need to add a half to 1 litre more after this.. 👍🏼

Seriously have added 8 many many times - 2x 4 litre bottles 5W 40 Castrol edge titanium FST - must be that I really get the old oil out as fully as I always lift the passenger side may that helps extraction - not sure - I would recommend 7 litres - to start with.

You can still drain sump first, then do oil filter, just leave sump bolt off until everything drained.

MAHLE OX 387 D1 filter , it has an extra rubber seal on each end of the filter , my 523i dosnt like any other filter in thr 😂

Just to add, the oil level sensor is a PITA with the n52, at least in the z4 3.0si. It takes a good 30 min drive before you can be confident that it is reading correctly. On a short spin, it often doesn't seem to register the change in level at all. I gather that under filling is better for the engine than overfilling, so filling to 5.5 - 6.0 litres and then topping off the next day/journey seems to work. I used to take my cars to a mechanic, due to lack of time and experience, but I struggle to trust them now. I've had them over tighten the drain plug (nearly needed a new sump!), use spray filler instead of new gaskets, etc. It's just not worth it. If you want a job doing properly, DIY. With excellent KZfaq videos like this, it is easy to take your time and do a good job! 👍

Stick a few litres in and check the digital reader is reading low... then you know it’s working.

I have e60 with N52 and that engine holds 6.9 quarts here in US , not sure how much in liters , but I am sure it’s about the same , am pretty sure that oil level bar needs to be solid orange line all the way , I have I drive and it will say oil level OK with just 6 quarts but as you add that final quarter you ll see oil level bar becomes one solid color .

eldin dukic bro idk what you’re doing but it sounds like you’re over filling it. unless you have an m5 you won’t have an oil reading on the gauge cluster with an orange line. You said n52 so either 525, 530, or 528. The bar will be in the idrive and it color codes the amounts. I’ve accidentally overfilled before and i had to drain a bit. it does not say “ok”. just be careful too much oil can ruin an engine

Garik , I have a 530i , I know , I was referring to orange line in the cluster that his car has since his car doesn’t have the I drive , I check my oil level thru I drive and I put about 6.5 quarts and then the green line in my I drive is solid , what am trying to say a car won’t show you are low on oil until it’s a full quart low , it will say oil level ok and when it see it’s full quart low it will say add one quart or two and so on . So if u out just a bit over 6 quarts I drive will say oil level ok , but the car might take another half a quart to be full . Yes I hate I drive and no dipstick but that’s how it is on N52 s .

Respectfully, please your experience with this oil. Did you notice anything in the operation of the engine, was the engine sound louder or louder or maybe quieter? The assumption is that the oil can last until the next change at 15000km or 1 year

I change the oil every 5k miles max but it’s more like every 2-3k miles with this car

Thanks for this George. At your mileage of over 120k, what made you go for 5w30 instead of 5w40? There have been some debates over this so curious to hear your thoughts? I just bought an '07 e91 330i with 118k and am inclined to put 5w40 in the next change.

5w30 LL04 is what is recommended from factory. Using an incorrect thicker oil can put more wear on your engine

It could be both of them 5w30 and 5w40 as well. I´ve got N52B25A from 2005, it has 216k kilometers now and also using 5w40. Of course 5w30 is from factory, but these engines are very known for their higher oil compsumtion. Im using Castrol Edge Fully Synthetic 5w40 for 2 years now and no issues. It is LL-04

im buying my first euro/bmw car bmw e87 130i auto. and has 167kms on it got it at a good price :) i've heard some owners here who also has high kms change their oil every 3kms. question is now do i change it every 3ks or 5ks?

Hi George, you have made a good start ... Definatelly M52 needs 6.5 liters of motor oil if you replace the oil filter (and drain the oil filter housing...if the filter is not replaced 6 liters is okay.) Anyway probably you already know but you can crosscheck all the liquis required for your car from the Tis web site with registering your vin number: www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/

By the way, if i did not hear it wrong the motor did not react the ignition quickly after the oil change. is it because i did not hear properly or ignition plugs also need to be replaced with iridium ones?

Just to let you know your oil filter cap is broken and needs to be replaced. The insert that was stuck inside the filter should stay as part of the cap

i noticed the torque wrench you linked only goes down to 28 nm is that ok to use when you require 25 nm? i am unable to find one in the uk which has a range of under 25 to over 150 do you use that one for everything?

"i've never had a problem with Bosch oil filters". The moment there would be a problem with an oil filter, you can say goodbye to your engine. So, the fact that you never had problems, doesn't mean Bosch filters are good. Infact they are mediocre at best.

If you compare one of these Bosch paper filters, with OEM, Mann, Mahle or any other, there will be no difference at all. It's just a bloody paper filter made to fit, it's not rocket science.

So many wrongs in this video! You use an engine flush but don't use any brake cleaner for the oil house, you don't clean the vanos filters etc etc. What's the point then???
