07:25 the oil pan isn't a reshaped item, it is a baffled pan taken off the the S55 along with the dual pick up oil pump to prevent oil starvation which normal N55's suffer from especially on track. N55's are also found in the M240iR

I know you've moved on from the n54 hehe but I think it would be awesome if you make a video talking about the n54 differences since they've used it in so many different cars. 335,135, 535, 335is, 740, x6, Z435, Z435is, 1m, Alpina B3, Alpina B3s and the Alpina GT3.(might be forgetting one)

Dude I just took this road trip because I heard it was one of the BEST roads in cali. Look up CA-33. I swear you will thank me, its like 50 miles of perfect driving road and beautiful mountains. Im going again with a dash cam to record this time. Best part, there were barely any cars. Its kinda far but WORTH

The M235 has the same cooling system upgrades as the M2. Same intercooler as well. Also, all EWG N55s got the upgraded S55 rod bearings. Earlier N55s did have issues munching rod bearings.

Forgot the N55HP, most F30s come with it, it's how you can purchase that "MPPK" kit for 35 more HP/TQ with a more responsive throttle.

I have a 135i n55 it’s a 2012 MHD stage 1 awesome daily driver great power and theater the dct is so fast and crisp but I’ve heard the manual transmission was great as well

Im glad you made this video. I own a 2018 M2 and have noticed people are quick to dismiss the older M2s because they have a N55 but none seem to know that the one the M2 is quite a special N55 plus that sound is way better than the S55 in my opinion.

I owned a 2017 M2 and while I liked it, seeing the M2 Competition come out at almost the same cost was such a slap on the face to current M2 owners, I traded mine in for a totally different car. I really like the s55 engine and wanted a M3, just couldn't afford $80k. The n55 M2 definitely sounds better, no doubt.

Did you skip a few BMW cars? I didn’t hear anything about the 535i, 640i or 740i which all have the N55 engine. Would be great to hear the variations of the N55 in these models.

I didn't hear you talk about the difference in fuel pumps between the n55. There are two different types of fuel pump and the oil pump timing chains are different.

N55 variants have same head throughout? Can they be interchanged? I’m asking bc the B58 variant changed to B58TU and swatched from two timing chain to one timing chain. So B58 heads are not interchangeable

Can you convert to EWG from PWG? I'm upgrading my turbo as well. Wonder what is needed to do a twin turbo set up on the N55, BTW.

The N55 was also put into the 2010 e92 models. Don’t know if it was exclusively for the DCT transmission but that’s what mine is

Do you live in Europe? In the North American market it wasn't until 2011 and we also didn't get DCT with it.

Also you have to remember the early pwg n55s werent as fuel limited, they used n54 style hpfp’s and the same lpfp just redesigned injectors, i had a 2011 135i and swapped my hpfp for a 335is n54 hpfp & the m2 had newer piston rings. Theres another n55 not many know about thats twin turbo its called the alpina b3 n55

Hey man was wondering if youngster any tips on n55 boost leaks with more aggressive tunes. My 535i xdrive is FBO Mhd stage 2+ and i am about 2 lbs of boost under target and wgdc is always at 85 to 100% on pulls. I have smoke tested it already and no leaks but that seems to be the problem since the westgate is staying closed to create boost. I am about to upgrade the diverted valve and all the piping from turbo to intercooler and intercooler to throttle body. Have you seen anyone with the same issues ?

How do I find out what n55 I have? 2013 335ixdrive sport?I believe I have electronic waste gate not pneumatic but not sure. Have tuned mhd stage 1,HPS cold air, Evo charge pipe- hitting peaks of 20.1 lbs boost and sport gages on display are saying im around 400hp and little north of 430lbs torque if there right? (That would be at crank, right) Car is way faster then my 6.4L dodge challenger scat pack with just shy of 500hp.

The N55 in the M2 is pretty stout. My only complaint is the turbo lag while in comfort mode. Once the boost builds up, it's pretty quick.

I've had both N54 and N55, that actual twin turbo makes a lot of difference. With N54, you have torque everywhere, like a powerful naturally aspirated engine, whereas N55 has a huge turbo lag at lower RPMs.

WG you can find it at napa, any auto parts store can order it, but i would just buy it online because its cheaper (amazon, fcp euro, ecs etc.)

BimmerFam Abq JB4 really adds a lot that’s not surprising. Same mods though, a EWG n55 will make more power than a PWG (around 30whp) just based on larger compressor wheel size, and the downpipe being 4inch instead of 3.5.

Rei they’re not faster, you’re a better driver. No way a EWG n55 is making 430whp on an off the shelf MHD tune either. More like 390-395whp. Maybe if they have meth and port injection, and that’s a big maybe. Turbo is maxed out by that point.

@Stefan I understand that. But it boils down to true twins vs the single twin scroll. The feel is the a difference in how the power is delivered. Twins can move more air and spools earlier because of smaller size and sequence. Still, there are more benefits to going to a single turbo. Especially when upgrading. 2j, RB, and 13B's are similar but more opt for the single conversion because of power potential. Its definitely a personal taste thing tho.

Just keep in mind that the chart used in that video is not completely accurate, the N55B30T0 used in the M2 and X40i does not have stronger bearings (rod), and there is no upgraded radiator, just an auxiliary radiator added to certain cars (and you can buy it as part of the PPK for several chassis) and the upgraded radiator fan (you can also buy separately and install) is not related to what engine is in the car, it is model specific or option specific (for example an early PWG F30 N55 with the M Sport package has the upgraded 800W radiator fan) . Also the M2/X40i does not have a "high flow" manifold.

@@billymania11 me too and the technical manual mentions absolutely nothing about the turbo or rod bearings being any different on the N55B30T0. I have also had various n55 turbos on hand doing some testing and the M2 turbo is identical to any other ewg turbo, the only thing different on it is the DV.

I own a 15’ N55 335i M Sport 8 SPD Auto, and a 16’ F80 M3 6spd and can personally attest to just how sneaky fast the N55 really is. Both cars are totally stock and although my M3 easily walks away from the 335i, it definitely gives the M3 a run for its money.

M2 N55 is the great engine but the HPFP is the weakest point of the engine to push the power to the limit.

Simply Car Things Honestly, I don’t know. My car started today, idling at around 650RPMs as normal, but when pressing the gas pedal, it was doing like it has a vacuum leak or bad spark plugs. Decreasing RPMs and not even reaching 1,000, before shutting off. Tried to start it again, and it didn’t even crank. I think it could be the battery, but it testes 12.24 volts.

xavi R they’re generally misinformed. N55’s do seem to run into rod bearing issues more frequently though and i’m not sure why that is specifically

In conclusion not much difference in terms of power to the N54 but the N54 is more complicated and costly to repair

Jin Metsuo the original argument of N54 being faster doesn’t stand then if you have to convert to a single turbo. The N55 turbo can be upgraded too! 2 turbos = more wiring, more vacuum hoses, feed pipes, return pipes, solenoids (these things fail, EWG doesn’t have em) twice as likely of turbo failure, increased engine bay heat ... prob missed something but you get the idea. Not doubting it’s a good engine.

haha my newer video commentaries are all produced with a mic. but if i'm being honest there's something wrong on your end if it irritates you that much. perhaps its your speakers of the device you're listening through.
