BMW is America’s biggest car exporter!!! The BMW factory in Spartanburg is BMW’s largest facility in the world, with the most volume: 411,171 BMWs built there last year, versus 365,204 BMWs and Minis sold in the US. Nobody exports more cars from the US - not Ford, not GM, not the Chrysler arm of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles: 287,700 BMW vehicles last year, or 70% of production, and 3.7 million vehicles since the plant opened in 1996. Every BMW SUV (except the subcompact X1) is built in one factory - Spartanburg - then shipped to the 140 countries where BMWs are sold.

The BMW X5 50i M-Sport is a beast. I test drove all the new German SUV’s from the Cayenne Turbo to the Q8, etc... The new X5 owns this category now. The luxury, build material and power from the V8TT is in its own league. Its a torque monster all the way up. It’s only fitting since I believe they invented the category decades ago.

Great review Thomas. You state in your German review of the 40i “Als Verbrauch erzielen wir etwas zwischen 9 und 10 l, was für die Größe des Fahrzeugs voll in Ordnung geht.” Is that correct? SUVs are normally just big, unattractive brick slabs with wheels and lights. But there is something attractive about this new X5. I don't know if it's those attractive front and rear lights, or whether it's just the overall shape of this new X5, but it actually looks quite beautiful to be honest. I love it. In white.

The Air suspension is great! I can attest to this,..had it on my '05 X5 4.8is! However,...and this is a big one,...that "ultra-smooth ride" isn't free! The airbags bit the dust around 80,000 miles,...and the cost was $1500 a side parts/labor! So, if you get any vehicle with an air-suspension,...you had best "Smile" every single mile the vehicle is driven,...but the first time the vehicle's suspension starts to sag from overnight sitting,...Be Prepared To Dish Out Some Serious Cash!

The original GLKs were very popular among celebs in the US who didn't care much for the old G-wagon. Too bad they changed the design and nomenclature to GLC, I saw one of your vids saying it is to be in line with the saloon names. GLK was more unique imho and I really liked the old boxy design.

Great video thanks! Hey Thomas (Tomas?), l was wondering, as a German who gets to travel around as you do your work, which country has the best and worst roads. If you can do a ranking say 1 - 5 or better yet 1 -10, that would be most useful. As you were driving l noticed the roads you were on and l am somewhat underwhelmed. I'm not sure what you mean by the driver's mirror being zoomed in. Do you mean convex? That's typical for passenger side mirrors here in the US, but I believe there's supposed to be at least one natural view mirror on the driver's side. At least, that's how it is for every vehicle I've owned. Maybe there's something with that being a press vehicle.
@autogefuehl
@autogefuehl 5 жыл бұрын
The US mirrors on drivers side show the cars closer than they appear, in the EU it is zoomed out / real size
@AkioWasRight
@AkioWasRight 5 жыл бұрын
@@autogefuehl Thank you for the reply. Yes, that does not sound like a US-spec mirror. Wikipedia- "In the U.S. and Canada, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111 and the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111 require the driver side mirror to provide "unit magnification", i.e., an undistorted 1:1 reflection achieved with a flat mirror. However, unit magnification limits the field of view that can be provided by a mirror of size compatible with the vehicle body. The ECE regulations in use throughout most of the world except North America permit the driver side mirror to have a planar, convex, or aspheric surface; an aspheric section is often combined with a larger convex section, and the two sections are separated by a visible line to alert the driver to the two sections' different perspective shifts."
@iventonart9474
@iventonart9474 5 жыл бұрын
@@autogefuehl lol, I think it's the other way around. Regular driver's side mirrors in the US are supposed to be normal view by regulation. In most of the world, it's wide view angle that's permitted. You might actually just be adjusting to real size and mistaking it for "zoomed" view. When I've had overseas friends and family visit me in Canada and they were driving rental cars, they've said the same thing to me. I tell them that's just a regular mirror you're looking at.

Thought you already reviewed the new X5? What's your feelings about the X5 50I compared to the Porsche Cayenne S? You've experienced them both and curious as to which one you'd buy if it was in your budget? I drove the 50i and thought the tech was great, comfortable seats, good room and fabulous acceleration but thought the ride was a bit floaty on the highway and on certain roads. I much preferred the ride and handling of the Cayenne S personal preference! Like to hear your thoughts? THX
