If your key works..there is a tab inside in the middle of the tailgate..use a flathead screwdriver and take it off..youll see a latch..looks like a small little metal rod ..just push that to the side abd the tailgate will open . then you can change your battery

For some newer BMWs this doesn't work if you had locked the car remotely.

@davidzhang7755 hey I locked myself out or 2011 X6 and trunk floor is up in back. Does this method really work? Can u use a jumpstart pack or do I need to use another vehicle and jumper cables

You have a Manual key to open inside your fob

My x6m won't open with that key. Tried it first before going to google 😂

Newer BMWs won't open with that fob key if you had previously locked the car with the remote key.
