The most mine states it will do is 39 miles on a full charge.

To a complete electric / hybrid dummie like me, can someone explain how this gets over 200mpg ? I must be missing something as she has just said electric has got a range of around 50 miles per 7hr charge and the petrol engine does approx 30mpg .... how does it then jump to 200 ? please excuse me if I'm being thick

I think if they can get the battery up to a range of 100/150km that actually would be a overall good solution. It will cover people driving longer distances to work and for the people who cannot charge at work.

Please review the Benz GLE 350DE! That would be a killer rival to this x5

You mentioned in the video " you can charge up the battery", did you mean while driving on gas? I wasn't able to find any other material to support the fact. Can you clarify?

Dont be fooled,folks. Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV does 38mpg on motorway and even better with flat batteries, 22 to 28 miles in EV mode only in town, has Quick charging and up o 80% capacity in 25 minutes. I just wish I had 24kwh battery instead of 12kwh :/

BMW knows 90%+ of its target audience will not want to own its cars for more than 6 years, so that's why that battery warranty is enough. You people have to stop thinking "they could just give you more." There is a cost associated with warranty and it goes into liabilities on the balance sheet and turns into a real cost down the road. They obviously wanted to minimise cost and offer more bang for the buck vs rivals. The battery part of it is just an excuse to get around lower EU emissions standards. Real BMW owners will want to use that real engine more often than on paper.

At 2.7t towing capasity, the X5 is not the best towing in its class. That is the GLE 300de with 3.5tons

What is the size of the fuel tank? Is it a petrol or diesel fuelled?

Why not choose a pure electric like Tesla model Y or Id.4 or Skoda Enyaq (all will soon be available). Then you can go far on pure electric, and do something good by emitting a lot less CO2 and not pollute the air locally some times. For instance if you drive on gasoline/diesel in citys, people in the citys being next to you when driving, has to breathe the harmful exhaust smoke from your car. Plus the BMW X5 Hybrid 45e weighs 2,435 kg, Tesla model Y Long range weighs 2,003 kg, which is helping the model Y be more environmental friendly.

That charge time is the same as my 5+ year old Volt which is...stupid. The GLE has more range and a 7.4kw charger.

Powerful petrol/gasoline engine in a PHEV does not necesarily means low efficiency like in this BMW X5 PHEV 23 MPG when battery is depleted. It means still it is a mild hybrid as used by BMW for very long time. That is a shame since a trully parallel hybrid can deliver high fuel efficiency as it is for instance in much larger 6 cylinder PHEV in Chrysler Pacifica PHEV. Also the pure EV range is too short 30 miles EPA for this huge battery of 24 kWH which once again means very poor EV efficiency vs 32 miles pure EV mode in Chrysler Pacifica PHEV achieved from 17 kW battery in a much larger and heavier vehicle. I understand performance orientation. However Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV is a performance car which can deliver high efficiency having 42 miles pure EV EPA range from 17 kWH battery AND close to 40 mpg when battery is depleted. It is a shame BMW chose not to bother with efficiency is such a nice vehicle. The fact BMW CHOSE not to bother with making the car efficient is providing a very low power onboard battery charger of 3 kW to make charging painfully slow and discourage most owners from charging and just refueling with petrol/gasoline. Once again both Toyota and Chrysler provide 7.5 kW onboard chargers for non luxury vehicles. To prove my point Mercedes Benz GLE 350 de PHEV provides CCS fast charging capability for its battery. Even Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV provides fast charging of the battery. It looks like BMW took its gasoline/petrol X5 and slapped a motor and a battery to it without any R&D needed. This fact is displayed by haphazardly placed battery greatly reducing cargo capacity in the trunk/boot vs very carefully placed battery in Mercedes Benz GLE 350 de PHEV with larger battery placed in such a manner that cargo capacity is not reduced at all. Boasting performance once again in not a case since Volvo can achieve better performance in its PHEVs from 4 cylinders as it does Porsche Cayenne PHEV from 6 cylinders. And if someone is really into performance PHEV SUV that customer in North America has a crazy fast choce of 6 cylinder Lincoln Aviator PHEV with about 660 HP with close fuel efficiency when battery is depleted with also Android Auto play included. It is extremely hard to prove this BMW sale case beyond corporative incentives for battery size in UK and Europe, driving pure EV in the large cities such as London and HOV lanes capability in places like California.

There is no reason BMW should still be offering plug in hybrids now. This X5 should be a full electric vehicle.

How can you review this car without mentioning the Range Rover Sport p400e which has better spec, greater wading depth in flood water more economical with a 2 litre engine when on petrol only compared to 3 litre bmw. Very poor, clearly you are concerned bmw won’t lend you another car if you tell the truth. Disappointed
